How do I convert multiple full sized DNGs to lossy DNGs within Lightroom?

Hi,
When I select multiple DNGs from within Lightroom, and on my mac go to menu>Library>Convert photo to DNG and then choose to convert to DNG with the lossy mode selected, only one of the selected DNGs is converted. How do I convert more at the same time? I have a large library, and I want to convert ~100gb of photos to lossy.
Thanks in Advance!

As far as my own collection goes, I would say I love about 1-2% of my pictures. I would like to use the top 5% for making printed family albums, and I use Lightroom to develop these images. The next 5-10% I would partially process and keep somewhere online at lower resolution, like on flickr. The next 20-40% I would like to keep around in storage, and the rest I trash.
These last 20-40% that I want to keep would be fine as lossy DNGs. I would treat them as JPEGs that have a bit more dynamic range for the future, but as I shoot with a 24mp Nex-7, they are huge, and won't ever be pixel-peeped. I have examined the difference between my 25mb DNGs and the converted 7mb lossy DNGs, and for my uses, they are functionally identical.
The issue is that I need to import them into Lightroom before I rate them. Once I rate my images, I flag the ones I want to work on further, and delete the worst. I would like a way to convert the remaining ones more easily. Of course if I knew which ones were 2nd-rate keepers from the outset, I would import them as lossy DNGs to start with.
I often have 3-4000 images to process after a holiday, so I need a fast method of compressing these DNGs.

    How can I convert multiple files at one time and not one at a time

    Hi Plissey1950,
    Sorry for the lengthy delay to a response.  Are you trying to convert multiple files to individual PDF files at the same time? (not combine them).  If so, you'll need to use Adobe Acrobat for this function. The CreatePDF service does not have the ability to convert multiple files to multiple individual PDF files.
    Thanks,

    How do I convert multiple PDFs to XML without having to open each file individually?

    XML for what?   XML is just a way to structure data - it's nothing in and of itself.
    However, you have to open the file (even if it's not user visible) in order to perform any operation on it - otherwise how would the data be read??
    Are you looking to do this on a desktop or server machine?  What OS platform(s)?  What programming environment?

    how do i convert multiple tracks into one large mp3?

    Hi,
    You can use an app such as Audacity or Join Together to create one larger file. If AAC file used instead of mp3, you could use GarageBand.
    If you have the original CD, you can join the tracks whilst re importing disc.

  • How can I convert multiple .pdf doc's to .pdf/a doc's

    I need to convert multiple .pdf documents to .pdf/a documents in a batch mode, instead of one at a time.  Is there a way to do this in Adobe XI Pro or another Adobe product?

    You can use Acrobat XI Pro. Create an Action to make use of the appropriate "convert to..." Preflight (for PDF/A there are several).

  • Converting JPEG files to DNG in Lightroom

    Is there any advantage to converting JPEG files to DNG when I import them into Lightroom? I am trying to maintain the quality of the file.
    Would it be better to save a JPEG file as a PSD file after I import it to use it in Photoshop and Lightroom?

    (Please pardon the change of subject:)
    Fred T. said, "If you are editing a JPEG in Photoshop going from Lightroom, let Lightroom create a TIFF. "
    I am wondering how to do this. I'm just an amateur and my non-SLR camera doesn't even save RAW images. ("Yup, need to take care of that one of these days.")
    My Preferences for "External Editors" (in my case Photoshop Elements 4.0) is set as: File Format: TIFF; Color Space: sRGB; Bit Depth: 16 Bits/component; Compression: ZIP.
    When I right-click on a file, and choose "Edit in Photoshop Elements 4.0.app", and pick Edit a Copy from the dialog box, the new file that is created and passed over to PE is a .JPG file not a .TIF file.
    I get the feeling that the functionality to create a TIFF, or a PSD, only works if my original image is RAW or DNG. But perhaps I am overlooking something???
    Life would be a lot easier if I could send the file to PE as a TIFF. At present, as a workaround, I tell LR to edit the original (so it doesn't create a copy), immediately Save-As in PE as a TIFF so I don't overwrite the original, and then when I'm done editing in PE, save the results (still TIFF). Once back in LR, I have to import the new file.
    Any Thoughts?

  • How do i export multiple full resolution movie files at the same time in final cut pro 6?

    I've been using Final Cut Pro since version 3 came out, know the program well, have even had jobs consisting of just operating the program.  I'm currently running version 6 because that's the latest one that works on my computer.  Back in verison 3, there used to be an option under Export to export a "Final Cut Pro" movie, which was really a Quicktime movie but appeared with a FCP icon and defaulted to opening in FCP, but the important thing about it is that it was a full resolution copy of the movie with no compression.  Now, that option seems to have been changed to "export Quicktime movie."  In my opinion that change is kind of stupid since it is so much less specific and is even less of an implication that one is exporting a full resolution file.  But in fact you are.
    One also has the option of using Compressor to export a version of a movie, and therein there are so many different options that if you are not confused by it I think there's something wrong with you.  Moreover, it would appear that there is no equivalent of exporting a full resolution version of a file in Compressor.  Fair enough: a full-resolution file involves no compression so is not appropriate for "Compressor."  BUT, suppose you want to export multiple uncompressed, full-resolution movies at once.  When you use Compressor, you are able to create batch lists and export many things at the same time, for instance, lists that will take many hours to complete so you can go to bed and get the results the next day.  But as far as I can tell there is no way to do this at full resolution without compression.  Instead you have to sit at the computer waiting for each one to finish and after each one, manually go to the next and select "export Quicktime movie."  Even if there is a way to do this I would complain that such an obviously desireable thing is so unaccessable.  In fact, the only reason I've typed out my question at such length is because I'm stuck here waiting for each one of my movies to export.
    Anyway, all my complaints aside, anyone know how to do this?

    what you're missing to export multiple files is the batch export command available in the file menu or by control clicking on the items in the browser.  You can export multiple sequences/clips at full resolution with this.
    This has been available in fcp for a long long time.
    Wow, you are right.  Now that you mention it, I can't believe I never noticed that.  Thanks.
    Only if you have the 'Self-Contained' box checked.  Otherwise you'll end up with a reference movie.
    Correct.  That box is typically checked by default.  There are other default settings you could change that would not result in a full-quality version, but what I meant was hitting that option from the pull-down menu, then changing nothing and hitting ok.

  • How do I convert multiple RAW files to JPEG with the same settings?

    I have a considerable number (800) RAW files to convert to JPEGs. I am happy to convert them in batches requiring similar settings to save time whilst of course, leaving the original RAW files to make more individual adjustments if required later.
    I thought there was a way of doing this in small batches to save time but can't recall how to do it.
    Can anyone help?

    Many thanks Barbara and dj_paige.
    What I didn't mention is that I'm using PSE 5 with ACR 4.6, if its relevant.  I'm thinking of updating to the next version when its out in the hope that it will run with Windows 7 64 bit or I may go to Lightroom.
    I can now see that I can batch convert a whole folder of files using "process multiple files" as dj_paige suggested but that is too many at once as the settings I choose won't be relevant for all the pics in the folder.
    I was hoping to batch convert say 5 or 6 similar photos at a time with the same settings. I'm not quite clear what you're suggesting but I'm hoping that its a "work round" using two stages to achieve this.
    I can't see a list of open files within ACR to ensure that they are all selected as you suggest.
    What does clicking Open rather than Done mean?  Does this amend the original RAW file to the settings selected so that if I then "process multiple files" on the whole folder to convert from RAW to JPEG they will in fact have already been processed in smaller groups so I can convert without applying any further changes?
    If so, what settings should I apply to "process multiple files" to ensure a simple conversion of file type rather than any further adjustments?
    Any further help on this would be much appreciated.
    Andrew

    It can Merge files then Sort them easily, even has a remove duplicate lines script available.
    If the version you get doesn't have the sort perchance, here's a link, put sort in the search scripts box, get the second one, Sort Selection...

  • How can you convert multiple PDF files at once to PDF/A-1b files

    I support individuals who on occasion have to submit a mass of files to a court and the requirement is that the files be in PDF/A format. Most are scanned files lacking the requisite structure to become PDF/A-1a files. So as I convert or resave files, I need to be able to specify that they be converted to the PDF/A-1b standard. And since it may involve over 100 files, it would be very inefficient to do so individually, file by file. Could this be done via an Action Wizard sequence? Could a script be written in Java that go through such a process, specifically choosing a PDF/A standard? Any insights would be appreciated.

    PDF/A-1a is very easy to automate in Acrobat XI Pro, indeed the compliance code was rewritten specifically with this in mind. Test Screen Name is correct that PDF/A-1b can't be realistically automated due to the complexity of tagging, but that's not your concern.
    In Acrobat XI Pro, create a new Action with no functional steps in it, then add the Save step.
    Click 'Settings' and change the output format to "Export File(s) to Alternate Format"
    Choose PDF/A from the list. It doesn't say so, but that's A-1b.
    I suggest using the file renaming feature so you're not overwriting the originals (e.g. append "_A1B")
    Save the Action and run it.
    Files with security, distributed forms, etc. can't be converted but the Acrobat engineering team claim that everything which can possibly be shoehorned into PDF/A will always succeed. In previous versions of Acrobat it often failed when it encountered things like iffy XMP data.

  • How do I convert a full name to firstname lastname

    I need to parse some text that I have in a DB. I have over
    5000 records to output, so I am hoping something will be
    effiecient. However, it is a one time process, so it is not that
    big of a deal.
    I have a field 'fullName'. It contains a users full name (as
    the name implies). I need to output this so that the 'firstName' is
    in one field and the 'lastName' is in another field. The entries
    range from 'Jim Smith' to 'John C. Dvorak Jr.' (not really John,
    but I wanted to keep this interesting).
    In the case of John, I need the first name and Middle initial
    to end up in the 'firstName' field and everything else in the last
    name field.
    I tried to loop over using a space as the delimeter, but that
    just sepeates everything into parts. I need the middle initial to
    hang with the first name and anything trailing the last name to
    remain there.
    Any clever thoughts? Help is much appreciated.

    ok, try this:
    <cfoutput query="getUsers">
    <cfset numelements = listlen(getUsers.fullName, "
    ")><!--- this will give you number of elements in fullName
    --->
    <cfif numelements is 2>
    <cfset firstname = listfirst(getUsers.fullName, "
    ")><!--- assign first element to firstname --->
    <cfset lastname = listlast(getUsers.fullName, "
    ")><!--- assign last (2nd) element to lastname --->
    <cfelseif numelements gte 3><!--- 3 or more elements
    in fullName --->
    <cfset firstname = listgetat(getUsers.fullName, 1, " ")
    & " " & listgetat(getUsers.fullName, 2, " ")><!---
    assign elements 1 and 2 to firstname --->
    <cfset lastname = right(getUsers.fullName,
    len(getUsers.fullName) - len(firstname) - 1)><!--- assign the
    rest of the string (less the space separating 2nd and 3rd elements
    [the -1]) to lastname --->
    <cfelse><!--- 0 or 1 elements in fullName --->
    <cfset firstname = getUsers.fullName>
    <cfset lastname = ''>
    </cfif>
    </cfoutput>
