How do i convert old elements places tags to elements 12 places tags?

I have spent over 10 years organizing almost 9000 photos and videos using Adobe Photoshop Album and Adobe Photoshop Elements Organizer.
I recently upgraded to Elements 12, and I am trying to tag my vacation photos. I tried to add a new Places tag. That resulted in me becoming extremely aggravated.
I had created dozens of places tags in several categories of places. I used a logical approach for organizing places, instead of using a strict geographical hierarchy.
Now Elements 12 will only let me add new Places tags by searching a Google map, and the new tags are forced against my will into a strict geographical hierarchy. So, while that is not what I'm used to, it at least makes sense.
Where I get really aggravated is that Elements 12 does not provide any way to upgrade all my existing tags to the new hierarchy. I can go to each existing Places tag and associate it with a map location, but it does not move (or allow me to copy/move) it to the new strict geographical hierarchy. So, as I move forward with Elements Organizer, I'm stuck with part of my collection tagged with my pre-12 scheme and the other part tagged with your 12-onward scheme. It will get to be very confusing when I go to tag photos and I have dig back and forth between the two schemes to find the tag to use. Why was it so critically important to not let long-term, loyal customers keep doing it the way they have been doing it for so many years????

It not be so bad if Adobe's geo-hierarchy was consistent with itself. However when I created some British place tags, some counties (e.g. Cornwall) were placed within the England tag, whereas other counties (Derbyshire, North Yorkshire) were placed one level up, within the United Kingdom tag.  They should all be within England (within United Kingdom), or they should all be within United Kingdom, which would make the England tag redundant. Some other towns and villages that I added, did not get their county-level tag at all, and are consequently "children" of the England tag. It really is nonsensical.

Given that you have Photoshop Elements 11 and Premiere Elements 12 on the same computer....
    1. Know the name of the Elements Organizer 11 catalog (See Elements Organizer 11 File Menu/Manage Catalogs/Catalog Manager).
    Close out of there.
    2. Open the Elements Organizer 12, accessed from Premiere Elements 12.
    3. In the Elements Organizer 12, go to File Menu/Manage Catalogs/Catalog Manager and click on the Convert button in the Catalog Manager dialog.
    4. In the Convert Catalog dialog that appears, look for the name of your Elements Organizer 11 catalog, select it, and then hit the Convert command at the bottom of that Convert Catalog dialog.
    5. From that point onward, follow the messages that you get from the program. (If you have any problems, I will go into deeper details.)
When all is done, you will have your Elements Organizer 11 catalog opened in Elements Organizer 12 where it will remain in use until you switch to another catalog there. Your Elements Organizer 11 will remain as it was in Elements Organizer 11. Moving forward, what you do in the converted catalog in Elements Organizer 12 will not affect the Elements Organizer 11 and vice versa.
Please let us know if you are OK with the above and if it worked for you.
    Thank you.

How do I convert old work done with iMovie HD 6 to view and work with in iMovie 11 on my new iMac?

If you still have your iMovie 6 project, you can import it using FILE/IMPORT/iMovieHD Project.
If all you have is the finished movie, you can FILE/IMPORT MOVIE.
If your movie is in DV Stream format, it is advisable to convert it to QuickTime MOV container containing DV codec. Otherwise, the import will be chronological by the date and time the clip was shot, rather than in edited order.

  • How do I convert my pc version of Photoshop Elements 5.0 into a mac version??

I am original purchaser and owner of Photoshop elements 5.0, how can I convert it to a mac computer from my old pc?? Thanks

You will need to buy elements 9 or 10, then install that in windows and make a full backup, then restore to the mac version, if you use organizer. If not, you will just need to get a newer version of PSE. PSE 6 through 10 works in lion. For mountain lion, I would go for 9 or 10.
EDIT The boxed versions of PSE 9 and 10 come with the media to install on both platforms. The downloads don't, but you could install in windows as a trial and that would give you time to get your backup done and transferred.

  • How do I convert old m4p music files to m4a files?

I have old m4p music files that won't play on my phone (not an iphone).  How do I convert the files to m4a?

Those are protected files from the early days of the iTunes Store when music had DRM. Unfortunately, they're locked to the original purchase AppleID and can only be played in iTunes or the Music app of an iOS device.

You should be able to import Quicktime movies (.mov files) into iMovie.  Are you getting an error message when you try?

  • How do I convert old wma files to AACs within iTunes on my Macbook Air?

I just bought a new Macbook Air (converting from a PC), and imported all my music files via external HD to my desktop. From there, iTunes searched the music folder on my Air's desktop and found alot of the files (mp3s) without issue. There are alot of files, however, that are not registering in iTunes (wmas). Is there a way to convert them to AACs on the Mac without having to download extra programs? On my PC, iTunes would offer to switch these files automatically to AAC, but on the Air I'm not receiving this notification nor do I see an option to do so. Please help!

I was just having a very similar problem. I've had my MacBook Air for a few years now and I haven't had any trouble.
My mom just recently sent me recordings of an old CD I used to listen to--they are wma files.  I have flip4mac and quicktime, so I can play them no problem. However, I can't add them to my iTunes library and I can't add it to my iPhone playlist. I tried duplicating and saving the quicktime file as an iTunes audio format, and I tried exporting to iTunes, but it keeps saying "Cannot Open This Media may be damaged."
I used the Switch converter, and was able to add it to my iTunes Library after converting. Lucky for me, I only had to convert 12 songs. Really good app, thanks!

  • Convert old Logic 5.x PST Files on PC to FXP/FXB

I'd like to know if and how I can convert old PST files in Logic 5.x on a PC to FXP/FXB (VST format) or simply make them usable in Logic Pro/Logic Studio where I've the same plugins in AudioUnit format. I'd even be willing to code my own utility if I had access to the PST file format from an older version of Logic. I really appreciate everyone's time!

If I remember correctly, Logic OSX would load PST settings files correctly (and then be able to resave as .aupresets) but only for Logic's own plugs, not for third-party ones.
You'll either have to work out your own solutions, or go back to the older versions and resave those settings in the plugins own native handling, if it has it's own patch formats....

  • Places Tagging in Elements 12

I converted all of my 16,000 photos from Elements 8 to Elements 12.  In Elements 8, I made up my own "Places" set of tags -- about 500 of them.  Not all places are mappable.  If I don't have an exact location, I may have to put something like Virginia.  Many of the photos have been scanned in at high resolution because I only have the old photo and I may not know the exact location.  Some locations change - new restaurant or winery name.  Elements 8 gave me the ability to search and find places on a map but with 16,000 photos and 500+ places, that was not practical.  When I imported my "Place" tags into Elements 12, it accepted them - fabulous!  Thank you.  But then when I went to add a new "Places" tag to MY list, I was forced to use the mapping function.  Have any of your programmers heard of backward compatibility?  This is incredibly annoying!  Having the new type of tagging function is fine but PLEASE give another alternative to allow custom "Place" tags.  I am sorry I bought the new version because of this.  Also, I realized that the general "Keyword" tag structure allows me to build customized tags but did I mention that I have 16,000 photos already tagged with over 500 personalized "Place" tags  - your accepted my tags and preserved months of work - JUST GIVE ME A WAY TO ADD MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not me. I, like most of the people on this forum, am just a regular user (nothing to do with Adobe) trying to help others out.
I don't know of any way of doing what you are asking. The catalog itself is an sqlite database so if you know any sqlite experts they may be able to compare the two structures (the format has change between each release because of new features) and see if they can feed back the v12 changes to your v8 catalog.

  • How do I transfer all tags from Elements 8 to 11?

How do I transfer all tags from Elements 8 to 11? Only part of the tags transferred for elements 8 to 11. I'm using Windows 7.

    It depends...
If you are still on the same computer and OS, the Organizer in PSE11 (or PSE12) will be able to convert the old catalog to its own format, while keeping the old catalog unchanged.
If you are changing computer, drive or OS, the best method is via a full backup and restore:

I have a lot of photographs with metadata and tags in Photoshop Album version 2.0 and I want to pull thee images, metadata, and tags into Photoshop Elements version 13.0 on a Windows 7 computer. Searching the web I found that this has to be done with the convert feature.  I tried File, Manage Catalogs, Convert and point to the folder holding my Photo Project Catalog.psa file, but nothing happens. It does not apparently see the .psa file.  How do I get my .psa catalog migrated into Elements 13?

  • How do I open my raw files in photoshop elements 12 editor-..my files convert to jpegs

How do I open my raw files in photoshop elements 12 editor.  I have a MacBook. I use the iPhoto and move the files I want to work on into elements, but it converts the raw files into jpeg files.
    Thanks for your help!!!

Are you opening the image directly from iPhoto? Right click & choose Edit in >> Photoshop Elements Editor
This link is old but gives information on set up. It relates to PSE11 but the principle is the same. In iPhoto prefs you navigate to the editor application in the support files folder. Start from Finder by holding down the Alt (Optn key) and choosing Library.

  • How can I convert a layer into a smart object with Adobe Photoshop Elements 10?

How can I convert a layer into a smart object with Adobe Photoshop Elements 10?

That feature is only in PS. Elements as you buy it has only limited support for smart objects. If you use File>Place to add something to your image it will come in as a smart object (within the limits to which PSE understands smart layers). However, if you know someone who can write an action for you in PS you can install it in PSE, or you could look into something like elements+ from simplephotoshop.com.

Yes - I can run both versions on my PC.  But I really would like to have all of my pictures in the same catalog.
You can't merge catalogs (even PSE13 ones) in any PSE version (only LR can do that). So, converting catalogs is not the solution to your problem.
Since you have PSE5 working on your computer and your images also, the solution is to 'write metadata to files in PSE5) and to re-import the images in the PSE13 catalog. That won't duplicate your image files and you'll lose albums/collections, stacks and version sets, but you'll recover tags, captions and ratings.
To be able to re-import the files indexed in PSE5, you may have to move them to a new master folder.
I am not sure what your problem with the conversion may be. It's quite possible that the resulting catalog.pse13db is ok and that the issue lies in the ability to open it in the PSE13 organizer.
As stated by dj_page, double clicking on that file should open the organizer with the new catalog. You could test that by creating a dummy catalog in PSE13 and importing a small batch of photos. Locate the path of the catalog with the menu Help/system info. Copy the catalog.pse13db in another folder and the 'double click' way to open the organizer with that moved catalog database.

  • How do I convert pics from old Adobe Photoshop program on cd in pdd to jpeg?

I have cds with pdd pics from my old (1999) Adobe Photoshop program.  My system won't open them.  I now have Photoshop Elements 8.  I can go to Organize and get photos from the cd.  They are in my catalog and I can open them there.
How do I convert them to jpeg?
When I go to Edit, I can't find my photos in the catalog.  I only find the new pics in my Photo Gallery that are already jpeg.
I feel as though I'm missing something simple.  Can someone help me?

Thanks for your response.  I did get a way to do it with the software I already have.

There's a utility called "Image Converter Plus" that can do this for you.  They modestly calls it "the best image converter in the industry.  You can see their web site at:  http://www.imageconverterplus.com/help-center/work-with-icp/examples/how-to-convert/PDD_jp g.html .
    Here's from their web site:
h1. How to convert PDD to JPG
Converting PDD to JPG is very easy with Image Converter Plus. In Windows Explorer, select a PDD image and click your right mouse button. In the context menu, select Convert to submenu and click Custom convert line.
    ==========
This seems to be exactly what you want.
Since they have a separate "download" and "purchase" section, it's not clear to me if you have to pay the $49 license fee to use the utility.  You may have to purchase the license to get batch processing.
Even if you do have to pay, my philosophy in life is that if someone can rescue some important pictures with their $49 utility, then it's worth the price.
