How do I Convert to sRGB in iPhoto '08?

I need help getting my photos to look the same on all browsers.  They look great in iPhoto, and great on Safari, but washed out in Firefox and other common browsers.  I have searched for a good solution for a while, but that has just led to more questions.
First, I am using:
iPhoto '08, version 7.1.5
Mac OSX 10.5.8
My MacBook is oooold.
My camera is set to sRGB, and on Flickr, in the Exif data, it even shows that it is sRGB.  But I have read here and there that iPhoto, or my Mac, may be altering the color spaces of photos.  (Please understand that this color space stuff is all relatively new to me; I just want my photos to look good on all browsers).
I followed iPhoto's help advice, and deselected the embedded colorsync profile, though I admit I don't really understand if that means I'm deselecting whatever iPhoto/Mac's embedded colorsync profile is, or my camera's (I double checked, and my camera is definitely set to sRGB).  Should I undo that action, or was that the right thing to do?  I tried that, and then uploaded some new photos from my camera to test it out.  I edited one in a pretty noticeable way, uploaded it to Flickr, and it still looked more washed out/faded in browsers other than Safari.
I then tried to follow the advice of someone on a Flickr forum, and put one of my photos into Automator, where I started the process of converting it to sRGB, but just for that one photo it was taking a long time - ten minutes into it, I had to stop it because it caused my computer to run very loudly and get hot.  And if it takes that long for just one photo, that isn't a viable tool to use anyway.
Is there some easier way to do this?  If I get Photoshop, will I be able to easily convert to sRGB?  Why would my photos' Exif data on Flickr show that it is sRGB, but still look more washed out on any browser but Safari?  I thought a photo being in sRGB was supposed to fix that problem.  Is it just saved as sRGB, but not converted to it? I don't know if it helps to be able to examine my Exif data, but in case it does, my Flickr address is: http://www.flickr.com/photos/birdsarethewords/
Please help!

I'm assuming that you have recorded in mono, then after editing the project and exporting it, the movie plays audio through one channel only on your speaker system.
Try exporting the project using "Share > Export using QuickTime". In QuickTime choose an appropriate video setting (such as H.264). The Sound Settings will probably show the default "Stereo (L R)", as the movie is being exported from iMovie which always assumes you are using stereo. Click on the Settings box - in the window that opens, for Channels select Mono. This may seem counter intuitive, but will allow the audio to be heard through both speakers after exporting. Of course, the audio will be identical in both channels - not true Left/Right stereo.
I haven't tested this but believe I've seen this tip elsewhere in the forum. Hopefully, I haven't misunderstood what you are trying to do.

I have some pictures in Raw mode stored in my Iphoto that I need to convert in JPG for the web and to print in business cards, I have been going around e-mailing the pictures to myself in large or medium size and then saving them again to my iphoto. Is there a way to do this from iphoto directly?

On your iMac use "File > Export " set the jpeg quality and size you want:

  • HOW DO YOU CONVERT IPHOTO 8.1 TO APERTURE FILE FORMATT

how do you convert iphoto 8.1.2 photos to aperture file formatt?

I believe this is still possible if the iPhoto library has not been up graded.
No joy, Frank. This is what I get, when I try to import an older iPhoto Library into Aperture 3.4.3 using "File > Import > Library":
Aperture 3.4.x insists on the library being converted to 9.4.x. To be able to import earlier iPhoto Libraries you would have to fall back on Aperture 3.2.x; temporarily install a second, older Aperture version, create a new Aperture library with this version, import the iPhoto Libraries, then open this Aperture library in Aperture 3.4.3 to convert it to a current version.
bertpa, how many iphoto photos are we talking abourt? If you are having several iPhoto libraries with thousands of edited photos, it really would be worth it to upgrade to iPhoto 9.4 to convert your libraries. iPhoto 9.4 will convert your library to a format with Master-version pairs like aperture uses. If you import this to Aperture, you will be able to import each edited image as a single image with two versions (original and edited)- importing from previous iPhoto versions you would be importing each edited image as two separate images - an edited image and the original. This would be wasteful, if you have many photos in Aperture, and it would cause a lot of additional work to get these duplicates sorted out. But if you only have a handful of iPhoto images, launch iPhoto and use the "File > Export" command to export your photos from iPhoto to a folder. You will have to do it twice - once to export the originals and once to export the edited versions. Then import your exported iPhoto photos into Aperture.

  • HT3825 so how do you convert the raw files to jpeg in iphoto?

how do you convert the raw files to jpeg in iphoto?

    Many thanks Barbara and dj_paige.
What I didn't mention is that I'm using PSE 5 with ACR 4.6, if its relevant.  I'm thinking of updating to the next version when its out in the hope that it will run with Windows 7 64 bit or I may go to Lightroom.
I can now see that I can batch convert a whole folder of files using "process multiple files" as dj_paige suggested but that is too many at once as the settings I choose won't be relevant for all the pics in the folder.
I was hoping to batch convert say 5 or 6 similar photos at a time with the same settings. I'm not quite clear what you're suggesting but I'm hoping that its a "work round" using two stages to achieve this.
I can't see a list of open files within ACR to ensure that they are all selected as you suggest.
What does clicking Open rather than Done mean?  Does this amend the original RAW file to the settings selected so that if I then "process multiple files" on the whole folder to convert from RAW to JPEG they will in fact have already been processed in smaller groups so I can convert without applying any further changes?
If so, what settings should I apply to "process multiple files" to ensure a simple conversion of file type rather than any further adjustments?
Any further help on this would be much appreciated.

  • Activation of "Convert to sRGB" in "Save for Web"

    Hello,
I am using a script scaling and exporting my image via "Save for Web and Devices". When I open the menu there's a checkbox called "Convert to sRGB" - I want to activate that checkbox via Script, as then I get the wanted colour results. I already had a look at the guide PDFs, but I didn't found that option, not as part of the export options array, nor generally elsewhere in the PS scripting guide.
So here's my question: how can I activate that checkbox with script?
    Thank you
    Thomas

I believe the 'ColorSpaceType' of the Export options is what you need.
EDIT: Sorry, I may have misspoken, I was under the impression that was part of the Export Options, but it does not seem to be.

how do i change the format to the right one?
Before you can decide what to do, you have to know what you are starting with. Sony MPEG-1 files would be converted one way while DivX or WMV files would likely be handled in another. Extraneous tracks can be removed directly with QT Pro but if you don't have QT Pro then there may or may not be other work around possibilities depending on the specific audio and video compression formats in use. The best place to start would normally be to double-clic the source file in iPhoto to open it in the QT Player. When it opens in the QT Player, check the "Inspector" window to see what it says on the "Format:" lines. This will tell you the type of audio and video content you are dealing with here. Then come and tell us so we can offer some specific conversion solutions.

  • How can I convert (or switch) the RGB percent values from the LR histogram into RGB values which are shown e. g. in PS/CameraRAW?

In LR 5.5 (same in previous versions) the RGB values in the histogram are shown in percent (relativ) values. I prefere to see the absolute values, but I can`t find any way to switch. Maybe this option is intentional disabled, because LR works in 16-Bit mode this would result in values up to 2^16. But as i compared the relativ values from LR with the absolute values from PS i run into a conversion problem. The following example shows the differences:
    CameraRAW : RGB, 128,0,0
    Lightroom: RGB, 43,8%, 19,0%, 6,2%
    CameraRAW: RGB, 0,128,0
    Lightroom: RGB, 29,8%, 47,5%, 17,5%
    Mainly i have two questions:
    1. Is there any possibility to change the percent RGB values in LR to absolut values?
    2. How can i convert CameraRAW values to LR values (see above)?

TThe reason that a design decision was made from the beginning of LR to show only the percentage values was that RGB values are dependent on the color space and the LR histogram and numerical readout are derived from the Develop module's display space which is a hybrid color space with ProPhoto RGB primaries and the sRGB TRC. Thus the numerical values in the display would be different from the exported RGB image (in an orthodox space) and it was feared that this would be misleading. When soft proofing was introduced, because it involved converting the display to an orthodox space, it became possible to use the 0-255 scale in that mode.

  • How can I transfer my photobooks from iphoto 08 on osx 10.5.8 to iphoto 11 on macbook osx 10.8.1 without loosing layout?

How can I transfer my photobooks from iphoto 08 on osx 10.5.8 to iphoto 11 on macbook osx 10.8.1 without loosing layout? I prepared 3 books in iphoto 08  and wanted to order them yesterday. I got the message, that this version is not supported anymore. I also have a macbook osx 10.8.1. However I did not manage to transfer the books to it. What can I do? I really would not like to recreate the books from scratch in th new version.

You will have to convert your 08 library to iPhoto 11 by copying the library to your Macbook and opening it with iPhoto 11.
However, check to see if the theme you're using in 08 is available in 11.  If it isn't you'll probably lose the book or be assigned to some other theme.
If the theme you've chosen isn't available in 11 find one that is available in both versions and convert to it in the 08 library before you move it to 11.

  • How do I convert a gif to an mpeg4?

I'm not sure this is the proper forum, but I can't think of anywhere else better to post this.
I've got a couple of nice NASA gifs that I'd like to view on my TV via my Apple TV. So how do I convert the gifs into the right kind of file?

    Hi James,
Are the GIF files in question animated or static? If they are static and you want them to show up on Apple TV, simply import the GIF into iPhoto, then set your Apple TV in iTunes to sync photos from iPhoto.
If you are talking about animated GIFs, QuickTime Pro will convert them to MPEG-4 for you. Open up the file in QuickTime Player and save them out in MPEG-4 format, then import them into iTunes. However QuickTime Pro does cost, although it is very useful. I am not sure what other software out there will do it for free. I have not tried using others like VisualHub to do animated GIFs but if you're interested I can try it out for you.

  • Converting m2ts videos for iPhoto slide show.

My brother used a new camera during a recent trip we took together. He has some great videos, but they are m2ts format and I use iPhoto to produce my slide shows. (I burn the slide show using iDVD). How do I convert his videos so that I can use them? My computer is not able to open them at this point.

One for the iMovie forum, I think.

  • , how do I import a book from Iphoto on my old computerPower book G4 to my new MacBook pro?

how do I import a book from Iphoto on my old computerPower book G4 to my new MacBook pro?

I just tried to move my old iPhoto Library from the G4 to a new Macbook. The G4 and files were very old, from 2001.
When I opened Iphoto for the first time, it said it needed to "upgrade" the library", so I selected OK. It gave a message that this could take an hour or longer with a lot of photos -- I have around 9,000 stored so I figured it would take awhile.
It finished in about 3 minutes, but there were no photos or albums to be found.
I checked on the drive and iPhoto has converted the old library files and photo files to a "package" called "iphoto library" that has no file extension.
If I show package contents, I can see a whole raft of new files, folders etc. I can see a file in there called "library6.iphoto" Some folders appear to be organized by years, if I dig down in the folders, all the photos appear to still be present. The general size of the "package" file is almost identical to the old folder, around 25.3 megabytes, so it seems all the photos and information is there, but its just not reading it.
Now IPhoto still says " to begin, connect a camera, drag photos to iPhoto, or import a file.....
I downloaded the "library manager" file and pointed it at the "iphoto library" file but it does not even see it.
Grrr... what can I do to recover this.
