I have Mac OS X and I have Quicktime 7.1 Pro.
I know that you can record a movie by making a new movie recording. Use the fire-wire connection to do this and have you camera in playback or deck mode. This is probably not the best way to import video to your pc. I say this because it might not be a lossless ingest of video (depending on your quicktime preferences>recording settings.
Try saving your dv video onto your pc using a program like premier (i use iMovie and Final Cut Express).

On the newest itunes, how do you convert videos or songs to be the right version for my ipod?

on the previous version, you just had to go to the advanced tab and there was a convert to my ipod/ipad/itouch option.
where is it on the newest version? or is there just not one on this version?

iTunes should automatically convert the songs to the format compatible for iPod. If not, follow through this:

You can also use, Handbreak (mainly use to rip movies from DVD) to convert videos to a specific format so specific devices.

I can't figure out how to convert videos to quicktime so I can put them on my ipod with sound.Can anybody explain this to me?

QuickTime expects video files with seperate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, iTunes & the iPod (both of which use QuickTime) only show the video and no sound.
One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...

I´m a newbie and so I dont know, if this question even came up. So I tried sevweral things to convert my videos (made by myself with my camcorder, mpeg format in PAL)and it works on the on the computer with Quicktime but it always has the same message for in itunes: cant copy format, casue my ipod cant play this format. Tried to convert it with itunes as well, no luck.
I had an Ipod touch for a short time, there it works, so what is the problem with the classic or what am I doing wrong????? I have all this memory now and cant use it :-((((

If I have an avi plus an .srt subtitles file, how can I convert this to play on the iPad?
If, on my iMac, I use Quicktime, I can save the avi as .mov with hard subs. But when I convert this .mov to mp4, the subtitles disappear.

Why go to all the trouble of converting? Why not just download an app that can play .avi files with subtitle support?

A buddy gave me some videos from his macbook and i've got a PC. I gave him my external and he put them on there when i moved them from the external to my pc's hard drive and tried to play in itunes it wouldn't let me. It gave me this message and took me to download xvid. I tried xvid but it didn't seem to work. I'm trying to scour the internet trying to find a converter to be able to play them. Why is it when i gave him some videos i have it went right through to his macbook? He was able to open with no problem? Can someone please give me a program that will convert and allow me to ultimately place them on my iPhone please.

The only way you can achieve this is by starting up the MacBook in TD mode, with the relevant disc in the Optical drive. You then have to connect the MacBook to a Tiger capable PPC based Mac, attach the external drive to the PPC based Mac and boot the PPC based Mac holding down the option key to access the Startup Manager. Then choose the OS DVD as the startup disc on the PPC based Mac (much as I mentioned in your thread in the iMac G5 forum)
Of course, if you have a normally operating PPC based mac you can simply use it instead, without the need for the macBook at all! This trick is only useful to re-install an OS if the optical drive in the PPC based mac isn't working, but everything else is for example.
In your case with your imac G5, though, I think you have a more serious issue, and simply getting an external drive with the right PPC OS on it isn't going to help you until it is resolved.

Hello, I have a new Ipod 30MB that was a gift. I have Napster, Lime wire,& Comcast Rhapsody. I made videos in movie maker. They are wmv files. I have not been able to drag them into i-tunes and convert them. can it be done? I fly RC planes and I have several vidoes I created and edited in movie maker to make movies. Am I out of luck?
I have been able to add my photos and music but no videos and some musci won't import either. I tried to import my contacts list and it didn't work either. I get a error message on a few photos, videos and contacts at each start when I hook the ipod up with i-tunes on the PC...
What do I need to convert all the files and use with this ipod where I can have one service without having so many?

The ipod does not uspport wmv files. You will need to convert them.... search here for video conversion or bettwer, search on the web for video conversion tools.
