How do i convert "vob" to use in imovie/idvd?

Hi!
I have a dvd with this file : VTS011.VOB
I want to get it into imovie or idvd.
My goal is to extract some pictures from this film -
and burn a dvd/cd with only the pictures......
How do i convert this format to a format that is accepted by Ilife progr. ?!
Toggen

You might look into the software DVDxDV. It will convert .vob files into quicktime files that can be imported into imovie. It doesn't do encrypted files, i.e., commercial dvds. It can do segments of the file, but doesn't seem to have a 'grab' button for still frames.
DVDxDV has a demo version that is very helpful in determining if this is the software for you. It will be watermarked until purchased for $25.

Well you first determine the file types iMovie can import, then you determine the file types of the movies themselves and look for the best format to change copies of them into so they can be imported into iMovie.
Once you have determined the best video format for your needs and that iMove accepts, you'll have to find software to convert one format into another.
I'm lazy, so I use my 17" HD 1080i screen to playback the video in it's native format and use SnapZ Pro X to screen record that into Quicktime format that iMovie certainly accepts.
Not everyone has a 17" 1080i HD screen nor the money to buy SnapZ Pro X though.

How do I convert old work done with iMovie HD 6 to view and work with in iMovie 11 on my new iMac?

If you still have your iMovie 6 project, you can import it using FILE/IMPORT/iMovieHD Project.
If all you have is the finished movie, you can FILE/IMPORT MOVIE.
If your movie is in DV Stream format, it is advisable to convert it to QuickTime MOV container containing DV codec. Otherwise, the import will be chronological by the date and time the clip was shot, rather than in edited order.

  • How to rename converted AAC filename using Nokia M...

I'm using Nokia 3110. I encounterd some issue about the mp3 music fail to playback due to require activation code on my Nokia 3110 phone. I managed to overcome the activation code problem by using Nokia Music Manager. I just do not understand why this issue happen??? Because some of the songs from the same CD album do not have this activation code issue. FYI. I purhcase original CD.
Second issue i'm still figuring is about how to rename AAC song as per my desire. The default file name after converted to ACC using Nokia Music Manager is 01-.AAC. I did try to rename it using Nokia Music Manager. But, once it downloaded to the phone. It still display the "original" file name, which is 01-.AAC. Please assist.
Third issue is about the album information. How does Nokia Music Manager categories or get the "correct" album information? Some of the song name is incorrect after downloaded to the phone.
    from Music Lover

Not come across the activation code issue at all.
To stop the track number appearing in the file name:
    - open Music Manager (Transfer music option in PC Suite)
    - click Options .. Settings
    - unset the "Add track number to the file name when ripping content from CD" option
You'll have to re-rip all your music again, though.
If you don't want to do this, I'm sure there are tools around that will let you edit the track information in the file - try a search on this board or google.

  • Converting VOB movie files for iMovie 09

I would like to import movie files into iMovie 09 which are in the VOB format. How do I convert the files to a format for iMovie 09?

I purchased this Mac two days ago. For a work application I purchased this camera 1 week ago. When I bought the camera I asked the vendor if software came with the camera that would allow me to load the videos onto the computer but when I received the camera no software was included and no one from Canon or the camera vendor would help. I had a Canon DC 330 that came with the software last year but someone from my company made off with it. Another story another day.
I've used PC's for years but I've been wanting to try a Mac anyway so I went into the Apple store with a VOB file that the PC would not read. It took a little fussing but the tech loaded the VOB file directly from the 3" DVD (took a few minutes to find a machine that read the DVD) into iMovie. Worked real slick so I walked out with a new Mac. I knew there would be a significant learning curve but nothing ventured nothing gained.
The Apple Store is over an hours drive one way but I suppose I'll have to go back and see if I can figure this out. Not an issue, just time consuming.
Anyway suggestions would be most appreciated. I will try the tip found on this post but any steps I can save would be great.

  • How do I convert .vob files to run in Final Cut Pro X?

    Hi everyone,
I'm trying to convert Video_TS files (.vob) to work on Final Cut Pro X. I've tried a free trial of a couple of third party file converters which manage to convert the files to .mov or .mp4, but then when I drag and drop them into Final Cut Pro X it gives no video or audio. Any help would be really appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Josh

Did you do this from the MPEG Streamclip download page?
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion and Mountain Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion and Mountain Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion or Mountain Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b8 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component M. Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion or Mountain Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion and Mountain Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion and Mountain Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

... am a mac newbie and...
.. then, you shouldn't stroll around in the outer rims of the iNet, looking for MTR.. , this app is mostly intended for distracting copy protection from commercial dvds...
    give that app a try:
DVDxDV (free trial, 25$, Pro: 90$)
legal, handy, very Mac-like in usage... plus a free trial, you can test, how it works for you....
    just to mention that:
DVD uses a plyback-format, end-of-the-road, delivery standard.. not meant for further processing.. you will recognize a (dramatic) loss in pic quality..

  • How do I convert video's using quicktime

I can't figure out how to convert videos to quicktime so I can put them on my ipod with sound. Can anybody explain this to me?

QuickTime expects video files with seperate video and audio tracks, but many MPEG formats used a muxed (multiplexed) single track that contains both. Therefore, iTunes & the iPod (both of which use QuickTime) only show the video and no sound.
One way to work around this is to use MPEG Streamclip to convert the files to fix this issue...

  • How do I convert unreadable dvd files to iMovie?

I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I cannot find anything relevant in a search.  I burned a DVD from a VHS tape.  Now I'd like to convert it to iMovie so that I can upload a segment onto my iPhone.  QuickTime won't recognize the format or even attempt to open it, nor will iMovie.  Are there any good options for me?

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.

  • When converting files to use in iMovie, what's the best format?DV MPEG4 MOV

I have video provided to me that was in MPG format. So I uploaded it in to you tube so that I could get an mp4 that will have the audio since in quicktime I'm only getting the video. Since quicktime has so many different ways to export video, what are the suggested best quality settings. I don't care how much time it takes to export. Which is best for iMovie, DV MPEG4 or .MOV?

So what are good options for file conversion from mpg? Usually I simply use QuickTime Pro (augmented with to view and occasionally trim and splice video clips from various sources, including web page-linked .mpgs and .flvs This has a lot of limitations - poor picture quality, not recognizing spliced clips, exported files blowing up to as much as 50x the original filesize and more. No doubt the answer is partly, "you get what you pay for" but I'm not sure how much better specific commercial applications will work for me.
When I look at video file properties in any application, e.g. QT or VLC, there are always many parameters I don't think are important, but am not sure. Is there a good simple guide to the structure and hierarchies of various video file types which can help explain and identify the characteristics to look for when setting file conversion controls?
