How do I copy a dvd to my macbook pro retina

I have a series of lectures on dvd that I would like to copy to my macbook pro retina, so I dont need the super drive when I am listening to them. I am not interested in burning them to a blank, just watching them without the disc.  Thanks

you can get another computer with a CD slot and transfer the videos via iCloud or USB.
Or..
you can just buy a CD writer/reader machine for only 35 bucks. I bought one that was made by LG, and it works really well.
And if you decide to buy the CD machine thing, make sure it's compatible for Mac.

If it's a home DVD copy the files to the computer.  If it's a commercial DVD you don't because it's illegal to do that and also against the terms of use of this site to even discuss.

  • I have a MS Office for Mac CD, how do I install the software onto my MacBook Pro (Retina Display)?

I have a MS Office for Mac CD, how do I install the software onto my MacBook Pro (Retina Display)? It does not have a CD drive.

If all else fails, try this.  i used to do it all the time before. might or might not work with the new office.
if you have access to another computer with a cd/dvd rom, copy the entire contents of the cd on a thumb drive.
insert the thumb drive in your MB and do the install from there.
However, if you have the newer version of MS Office, Bandit's suggestion is much better.

  • How do I erase the free space on macbook pro retina?

I went to erase the free space on my MacBook Pro Retina in the Disk Utility but it says not available for this type of drive. Is there a way I can get around this?

You can't use Disk Utility to securely erase a Solid State Disk drive, because of the fact that SSD's have limited write capability, unlike hard drives, thus have to protect the sectors from as little writes as possible.
In fact TRIM (wear leveling) is enabled to write new data to the least used sectors on a SSD each time.
The NSA guidelines for secure data destruction on SSD's is to grind them into a fine powder.
If you don't require this level of data destruction, you can do this trick below, but not often or you'll premaurely wear out your SSD.
Finder > Duplicate a small file repeatly in a folder until slightly more than 50% of the remaining free space on the SSD is used up, (use Activity Monitor) then delete this folder.
Then duplicate a different small file repeatly in another folder in the same manner.
What this will do is, because of the small file, OS X will fill the smallest unused spots on the SSD, the duplicates will fill the remaining free space half way, then the second folder will (because of TRIM) fill the other remaining 50% of the free space.
You can't fill your boot drive or the machine can refuse to function or boot, but because of the wear leveling this should overwrite all your available free space on the SSD once.
If you have a laptop and TimeMachine, there is a hidden database on the boot drive which will store a copy of the deleted data.
Then there is "versions" and it's possible a copy of the deleted data is stored in that cache file still on the SSD.
I can advise how to delete the TimeMachine backup file on the boot drive, but not the "versions" database or what it contains.
How do I securely delete data from the machine?
If your really paranoid it's likely best to reformat the entire MacintoshHD partition from recovery and then with a new user, then do the Finder > Duplicate procedure to overwrite the deleted data off the SSD, this way the "versions" and TimeMachine databases are also overwritten.
    Nothing is safe anymore.

  • HT1473 how do you import an audio cd to macbook pro retina 13" itunes from windows shared cd drive?

Just bought the macbook pro retina 13" obviously no cd drive and I don't have a super drive, however I shared the cd drive on my windows 7 laptop and inserted the audio cd which didnt work
How the **** to you add audio cds via a windows share in to a macbook itunes library?

  • How to create Install OS X Yosemite for MacBook Pro Retina Early-2015

HELP ME! Unable to Boot from Install OS X Yosemite USB
I just bought a new MacBook Pro Retina 13" Early-2015 and wish to install Windows 8.1. I created Windows Install USB using Boot Camp and Installing Windows. Unfortunately, I erase all SSD by accident.
I created Install OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 USB as guided at https://support.apple.com/en-us/ht201372 using my MacBook Pro Retina Late-2013.
This USB works perfectly on my MacBook Pro Retina Late-2013 but I am unable to boot from Yosemite 10.10.2 Install USB on my new MacBook Pro Retina Early-2015. The white stop sign appeared on black screen all the time. I am stuck here and can't reinstall OS X Yosemite on my new MacBook.
I also can't use Recovery boot as the SSD had been erased.
Please help to show me how to create OS X Install USB that can use with my MacBook Pro Retina 13" Early-2015

Boot the MBP with the OPTION + COMMAND + R keys.
It should result in a display with a revolving globe.
If you follow the directions, it will connect you to the Apple servers and you will be able to install the original OSX that came with your MBP.
You will need a solid Internet connection.
    Ciao.

  • TS2839 how do i fix my dvd drive on macbook pro.  it is not accepting or taking in any cd/dvd's

Trying to install OS in my macbook pro.  DVD/CD drive is not letting or accepting the cd.   I could put it in 1/3, but the macbook does not take it in.  It seems something is stuck.  I checked to see if any cd is in there and even tried rebooting and holding down the trackpad to see if something ejects.   Please help.

You are going to have to take in for service, either at an Apple Store or a Service Provider. The slot-loading ultrathin drives in these Macs are somewhat fragile. Unless something is physically stuck inside, like a small diameter or irregularly shaped CD, there's a good chance that a part may be bent or damaged.
Here's additional info on CD/DVD issues and how to deal with them, but I wouldn't hold my breath: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2801

  • How do I upload a dvd to my MacBook Pro and view it on iPad?

I have some dvds that I purchased and would like to be able to view them on my iPad.  How do I upload to my MacBook Pro
and then be able to view them on my iPad?

And that is the legal use of content purchased thru the iTunes Store. However, transferring the contents of a DVD, no matter that you paid full retail value, is called ripping and the media moguls take dim view of it. And is a no-can-do in these forums.

  • HT4623 How do I copy photo and music from MacBook Pro to Mini Ipad?

I have a MacBook Pro that has my collection of Photos and Music. I recently bought a Mini Ipad and wanted to copy/transfer some of my Photos and Music from the MacBook to the Mini Ipad. Have tried but cannot perform drag and drop since the Ipad is not showing up in the Finder app.
Looked into the Lightning to 300 cable (for my Iphone touch or Ipod) but the adapter has a female connector for the 300 and don't know how I can attach my Iphone or Ipod to transfer data with the other end of the cable is USB or AC .
    Thanks

The iPad won't appear in Finder, you should be able to sync content by connecting it to your computer's iTunes -do you have iTunes installed on your Mac, and your music library in it ? You can add music to iTunes via File > Add To Library
With iTunes 11 on your Mac you can enable the left-hand sidebar via option-command-S. Then select the iPad on that left-hand sidebar and use the Music tab on the right-hand side of iTunes to select and sync your music to the iPad's Music app.
    Syncing music : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1351
Similary to sync photos use the Photos tab on the right-hand side of iTunes. There is some info on this page. You will need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad - synced photos can't be deleted directly on the iPad, instead they are deleted by not including them in the next photo sync.
You can't transfer music from an iPod or iPhone to an iPad

  • No DVD's and MacBook Pro Retina

Please forgive me, but my brain is mush and I'm not thinking practically.  I bought a 13.5 " MacBook Pro with retina display last weekend to take advantage of our sales tax free weekend.  The sales guy mentioned in passing that "you realize these retina models don't come with a DVD drive, don't you?"  That one went right past me.  Now I'm at home wondering how I'm going to load the printer software or Microsoft Office or Photo Elements, all of which are on DVDs on my office shelf.  Before I run out and buy an external Superdrive, can someone please reassure me that there's a way to get this software and data over to my new computer?  I'd be eternally grateful :).

    Here's another possibility.
Assuming you still have the iMac, you can "borrow" its optical drive using the Remote Disk facility. (This only works for data disks, not audio CDs.)
    On the iMac:
System Preferences > Sharing > check "DVD or CD Sharing"
(Unlock the panel first if it is locked. Check or uncheck the option about asking first; your choice.)
Insert the DVD you want to use.
    On the MBP-R:
Open a new Finder window (or reuse one already open).
Under "DEVICES" in the sidebar, select Remote DIsk.
Click the name of your iMac.
Click "Ask to use..." if you enabled that option.
Click on the name of the DVD, which is now a mounted volume on your MBP-R.
