How do I copy audio tapes to my iMac?

I have some audio cassettes we made of the kids when they were little. I want to make them into CDs before the tapes break. (One already has and has been repaired.) Do I need a special application to do this? Can I do it on GarageBand? Please give me simple, step-by-step instructions. Thanks.

It seems this question is best posed to the makers of "xitel".
I looked up A product and it is out for Windows but does not mention Mac OS X:

  • How do I copy my appointments from my imac calendar to my new iphone5 calendar?

How do I sync or copy my appointments from my imac calendar to my new iphone 5 calendar?

Through the iTunes program.  But, with the iPhone 5, you need to have iTunes version 10.7.  You also need to have an Intel-based iMac running at least OS 10.6.8.
If you have an older PowerPC iMac (G3, G4, G5), running OS 105.8 or older, you can't sync a new iPhone 5 with it.
If you have an Intel-based iMac, running at least 10.6.8, and iTunes version 10.7, when you connect the iPhone to your iMac through the phones included Lightning to USB cable, iTunes should automatically launch.  When the iTunes window appears, in the column on the leftside of the window, you should see Devices, and under that, the iPhone should be listed.
If this is your first time syncing the phone, it will walk you through it.  At the top of the window you'll see buttons for Music, Photos, Videos, Apps, Tones, Mail and Contacts, and other items that you can click on and decide what items you want to sync to the iPhone.

  • Trying to learn how to copy audio tapes

I have posted this same question on the Audacity forum but have had no responses yet so I thought I might try here also. I am a brand new novice with my computer described below and had hoped to use it for amongst many other things, copying some old vintage cassette music tapes into my iTunes in mp3 format and then onto my iPod so that I could listen to the music on my old stereo system with the iPod plugged in. The music on these tapes is from the 1950's to the 1970's which I firstly put onto reel to reel tape in the 70s as LPs became obsolete and secondly onto the new modern revelation of the time, casette tape. I think that this conversion to mp3 if I ever figure it out will be the last in my lifetime. I guess I am dating myself and yes I have no problem in admitting that I am a senior citizen who needs to be carefully led by the hand to figure out how to do this project which will entail much work since the tapes (mainly Slavic music from Russia, Ukraine, Romania, etc. which originated in the old Soviet Union) number many, are obviously no longer available and there are probably about 30 - 50 hours to be copied. I think I have figured out the first step: Connect my tape deck player to my iMac using a cable with RCA plugs on one end plugged into the output of my tape deck and a mini jack plug on the other end which plugs into the back of the iMac in the Audio in/optical digital audio in port. I then read that I needed a program like Audacity. Well, I downloaded it (version 1.2.5 which was recommended since it was supposedly more "stable" than the newer beta version) and have absolutely no idea what to do with it - there appears to be no help menu of any use to me so all I am staring at is a window of a control panel with buttons for play, stop, etc. and a bunch of numbers underneath the buttons. I need very simple, clear, step by step instructions (sorry but it's a symptom of old age). I also have something called GarageBand on this computer which seems to have something to do with music and I wondered if it might be useful but of course have no knowledge regarding it's use. If anyone has the patience and time to provide me with very detailed, simple instructions (please don't presuppose I have any knowledge in this field) I would be very grateful. Thanks in advance.

You may use either Write-on effect or animate paint stroke.

  • How to dub (copy) VHS tapes to DVDs (DVR670KU)

Josh @ Toshiba Tech Support (800-631-3811) gave these instructions which worked for us.  Note: first VHS tape we tried ejected immediately.  Second VHS tape we tried stayed in and dubbing worked.
    - turn DVR670KU on
    - press DVD button
    - press Input Select button and choose "L1"
    - insert blank DVD
    - press Rec Mode button and choose mode (ex: SP)
    - press VCR button
    - insert VHS tape
    - press Play button
    - press Pause button
    - press Dubbing button
    - unit automatically begins VCR to DVD dubbing and displays "DB" on front panel
    - press Stop button when done

Note that I'm not Josh. I'm not a Toshiba employee.
Are you saying that you followed the steps in the original post, up to and including
"Press Dubbing button" and the VHS tape did not begin playing? If so, did you get
any kind of notification on the screen? The VHS tape should have been in pause mode,
and should start playing once the DVD Dubbing button is pressed on the remote.
Are you trying to dub a commercial tape? (which you can't do with the Toshiba DVR620 and
    DVR670)
What type of recordable DVD are you using? DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW? And it's
    either blank or unfinalized?
Can you play the tape when you are not in a DVD dubbing situation? That is, just insert
the VHS tape, press the VCR button on the remote, then press Play on the remote?

  • How do you copy photos to a new iMac?

I am migrating from a PC to a new iMac Intel, and I need to know how to move the 100's of photos from the Windows machine to the iMac.  I have an external USB HD and I have copied all photos to this.  When I plug the USB HD into the iMac, the drive will probably open in the top right corner (the way a mini USB flash drive did.
My question is this: where should I "drag" the picture folder?  If I drop it into the "Photos" folder, will my wife (who is an Administrator user) also be able to use the photos in iPhoto?  I have the photos separated into some subfolders (such as trips, events, etc.) - is it OK to keep this format, or should all of the pictures be in the same folder?  And where is the "Shared" Folder that I have read about.
Generally, my wife and I would like to have iPhoto exactly the same.  In other words, we don't want to have individualized photos - if she edits a folder, I would like to have the same edited photo showing when I log into my user account.  However, we do need different user accounts because we have separate e-mails and don't want to wade through each other's email.  The same would be true for iMovie.
Because we do have individual documents (Word, Excel, Adobe Reader), I will drag these into our individualized "Document" folders, I assume.
Sorry for the dumb questions, but I would prefer to not have to undo the actions that I do now.  Thanks.

Put the photos individually into a folder. Copy the folder to an external drive. Connect the drive to the Mac and drag the folder from the drive to the /Home/Pictures/ folder on the Mac (Home is /Users/youraccountname/ folder.) You can then import the photos into iPhoto.

  • I've got my music on an ipod and a MacBook. How do I copy my music to my iMac - I'm just not getting anywhere!

I thought it would be quite straightforward to copy my music library across from the MacBook to the iMac and I'm sure it is but can I work out how?
I've tried wireless and cable but nothing seems to work.
Getting fed up and tired trying so maybe tomorrow I'll try connecting the iPod to the iMac and see if that works.

copy my music library across from the MacBook to the iMac
the simplest way, assuming all your media files are in the default location, would be to connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in Target Disk Mode, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the source to <MacintoshHD>/users/yourname/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).

How do I transfer Audio Books from my iMac to my INACTIVE iPhone?

The same way you would to any ipod/iphone.
Select whatever you would like to sync, then sync it.
FYI: Leave the SIM card in your iphone that was in it when it was active. Without it you will not be able to restore or upgrade.

The advantage goes to FCP7 if you allow that it can copy and paste filters, audio and video, transformations, and other attributes separately.
You can do that in FCPX too, as all the things you cited are listed separately in the inspector.
Here's a little gotcha. Let's say you've color corrected a few clips and you've applied an effect to one and want to paste it the other clips. You switch off color correction and copy the clip. You select the other clips and paste effects. What do you think happens? The effect is applied, but the color correction is applied as well, only it's switched off as it was in the first clip, so all the color correction on the other clips is lost. Fun, eh?
I'll try to replicate your gotcha - but no, that doesn't sound like fun at all!

  • I need to copy audio files and projects from logic to an external hard as my MBPis nearly full and my external hard drive has packed up with all my files on it, any suggestions on how do I copy 200GB from my MBP to a new external HD

I Use logic and back my audio file and projects on an external HD ,this has now packed up . I have all the files in the MBP , but need to copy them to a new external HD, I have only 10GB left on my machine , how do I copy 200GB from my machine to a new External HD.
any helpful full advice would be appreciated.
    angus

Yes, just drag and drop them into the drive..
How long will it take? Hard to say without knowing the type and speed of the drives in question.. and even then it's hard to estimate... but does time really matter?
The fact you only have 10 Gigs left will/may slow the process down but it wont/shouldn't stop it...
If needed.. just drag and drop some of the files at a time.. not all of them.
Remember that copying files doesn't delete them from the original drive... You will still need to delete them yourself after they are copied over and empty the trash....
    However....
When you saved these projects in Logic (Pro X?) did you save them using the include audio files option?
If not, then when you move the audio files used in these projects... Logic will not know where they are to reload them........ and that will cause you issues.
    So.. if you didn't...
I would use this method instead...
Logic Pro X: Move, copy, and convert audio files
