How do I copy clipping masks including relative positions for multiple images?

I have a number of microscope images of the same subject that were taken under three different conditions. I'd like to use clipping masks to crop the images in the same way (the same size but also the same positions relative to the corners/sides of the images. In case that was incoherent, I made an image to try to explain what I'm trying to achieve (the same portion of each image for each set):

You may, with one image in the set masked:
1) Direct Select the Clipping Path and Ctrl/Cmd+C+F+X+F, then move it by the distance between the centres of the images; you may do that for the whole set by repetition;
2) Select the/each image and path and Object>Clipping Mask>Make.
Alternatively, in 1), you may select the Clipping Path (Mask) in the Layers palette, within the Group.
The Ctrl/Cmd+C+F+X+F is to get the path out of the Group.

I'm practicing illustrator myself. I have a book for illustrator hoping it would show me step by step on how to use the masks to take away any unwanted background in a photo but it didn't do that. Can anyone teach me how or show me where to look for the information on how to use the clipping masks or other type of masks? I went to the adobe workshop video to look for the answer but it didn't show exactly as what i want to know. Okay, Just to begin I know how to make a clipping mask, but for the case that I'm going to present right now I just can't figure out what mistake I am doing (if any). However I am a beginner.

In the link to above tutorial on how to make a medieval scrol I'm stuck at step 25 and would be glad to anyone who helped.
As said in step 25 that expand the appearance of the scroll and select the two then clip the mask. In th above picture I have just selected the scroll to show how it looks.
Now as you can see in the image below I have expanded the appearance of the paper scroll. Then I selected the paper scrol and the yellowish green grunge background placed below it. And the moment I hit Ctrl+7 (in windows) or Command+7 (in Mac) to make a clipping mask the error that showed up has been highlighted.
One more thing, I have clipped masks before too in the same tutorial given above but I don't know what has gone wrong for me in this step.

Why would you want a clipping mask? I don’t see a reason for it.
However, for what you want I would use the Pathfinder panel to combine all the paths into one shape. First use the ungroup and release compound commands a few times each, to make sure you have nothing grouped. Then press the top left button in the Pathfinder p[panel. This should produce one closed path that just surrounds the scroll.

How to create a clip mask for a group?

I have created a hue/saturation adjust that I want to use as clip mask for a group of layers. How do I do that? I can create a single layer clip mask of hue/saturation but not a whole group of layers.

You can nest it with its adjustment layer in another group and set that group to normal (instead of pass through). But setting the second group to normal may affect any blending you have going on in the first group.

I'm currently working on a project in which I have a background that has a large text layer above it. What I want to do is create a sort of "dynamic" clipping mask that essentially subtracts the shape of the text from the background yet remains editable as text in case I need to change the word or font.
However every way I've tried so far as been met with the backgrouns instead being constrained inside of the shape of the text...which is NOT what I want.
How can I do this while still having the text able to be edited?

An Opacity mask will work, but it will also move artwork from various layers to one layer.
You can get the same effect with a Layer Clipping mask and keep objects on their layers.
In this example only one layer is clipped, but you can drag as may as you want below the clipping layer.

How to identify layer clipping masks

I am trying to group layers which are in clipping masks.
For this, I am using a key called "keyGroup".
This property is set to 'false' for the clipping layer. For other layers in the clipping mask "keyGroup" is set to true.
How do I make sure that this behavior is consistence or not ?
Where can I find the documentation for those keys which are defined in PITerminology.h and PIStringTerminology.h ?

How to use a clipping mask layer to a multiple base layers?

Is it possible to use one layer as a clipping mask to a 5 different bottom layers.
What I'm trying to do is apply an adjustment layer to certain layers only. Is that possible?

not that I would know, but what you can do instead is group those 5 layers (CTRL+G), add the adjustment layer as the topmost layer in the group and set the group's blending mode to "normal". The adustment layer is then only applied to the layers within the same group.

URGH! Make clipping mask/path out of a placed image?!

I'm having major issues. I'm a n00b at Illustrator, though.
I need to make a placed photo into a clipping path, and I can't figure out how to do it correctly.
It's homework for a college course in Digital Illustration. I need to recreate a photo using only shapes in Illustrator, and to do so, we're supposed to make the photo into a clipping path so that when we draw the shapes on it, the shapes won't leave the bounding box of the photo and onto the white space of the document.
I know to make the clipping mask, you just go to object > clipping mask > make... but every time I do it, and I draw on the image, the shapes still leave the image, so I must not be doing it correctly.
ANY help would be great. I'm about ready to rip my hair out.

however, i have one more question ... for Carlos or anyone else
i am suppose to delete the original circle but not matter what i do ... select it and hit the delete key, select the layer it's on and hit the trash can icon or even cutting it ... the Edit menu says the actions have taken place but when i hover over the area afterward the path is or seems to still be present.
i have tried and tried to look for an answer in the manual, FAQ's and have even Googled for an answer but i cannot find any info at all about how to delete a path ~ most of all under this particular circumstance. arg!
i've looked at the rest of the tut and i think if i can get past this point i'll be great.
i am wondering if it even matters rather i delete this original path.
any help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

ps. i was just thinking ... can this original path/circle even really be deleted? isn't it necessary to keep the shape of the object and/or a part of the mask that gives the object its appearance?

Clipping Mask to hide certain area of image

I would be grateful if anyone could help me to figure out how to clip mask only 1 polygon with cat heads because my cat image is so big until it appears on other polygons. Attached below is my screen shot for better understanding. Any tips and help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Apologise for my earlier mail with wrong title as "layer mask".

One way would be to:
1. Ctrl click on the layer 1 thumbnail in the layers panel
    to load a selection of the polygons.
2. Make layer 2 active, then alt click on the add layer mask icon at the bottom
   of the layers panel. (this adds an inverted mask which hides all)
3. Set the foreground color to white by pressing the D key and then pressing the X key.
4. Make sure the layer mask is active and paint with your brush on the polygon
   that you want the cat heads in.

Clipping mask VS. Selection for restricting area?

What is the advantage of making a clipping mask vs. selection for painting a selected area and making sure not to go out of it?

Painting on a layer clipping masked to another layer ascertains that the transparency of the underlying layer is maintained.
For example if a region/pixel of that layer has 50% transparency painting on a clipped layer will result in that region/pixel having the new color but the same transparency.
If on the other hand one were to paint on a separate layer with a Selection of the first layer’s transparency
• multiple Brush strokes in the 50% transparency region could push it much higher
• a single 100% Stroke (or Fill) would cause the resulting pixels to be a mixture of background, first layer and second layer (see attachment, middle clipped, right masked)

How adjust relative position for overlay plots?

I ploted 2 curves in one chart, one in red, and one in blule. My question is very simple, is there a built-in tool or property node that allow me to change the relative position of the two over-laid plots to determine which stays on top, which stays on bottom? In this case the red is placed on top, blue on bottom. But I'd like to change relative position in real time sometimes, any idea?

How do use the same crop for multiple images.

I have a number of images that I want to use the same crop on. Instead of go through the whole slow process for each image is there a way to use the same crop for all of the images?
And in iPhoto there was a way to copy the adjustment settings to multiple images, I can't see how to do that in aperture.

Use the "Lift&Stamp" tool:
Crop one image.
Lift the crop using the "Lift" tool.
Select the other images.
Stamp the crop adjustment to all of them.
But caution: By default "Lift" will copy all Metadata tags and all adjustments, but the gps data. If you only want to transfer the cropping rectangle, deselect all lifted items but the crop adjustment before stamping.

Copy/Paste Develop Settings for multiple images

I'm trying to update some settings on multiple images. In Develop mode, I start by making the corrections to a single image, and then click the "Copy ..." button. I then select multiple images in the Filmstrip and click "Paste". This works just fine, but only on the 1st image/highlighted image, and not the whole selection. Am I doing something wrong here? Shouldn't I be able to update multiple images, at once, like a batch process?

If your reasoning was correct, how come the settings do paste to the entire target selection and not just the active image when the toggle in the lower right hand side of the screen is switched to Auto Sync?
Would love to hear more of your insight, because this is really confusing me.
