How Do I Copy File Names & Folders From A Hard Drive To A Word Document?

Hi Gang:
This may sound silly but I am having a herd time with the following - seemingly simple task.
I have data DVD-Rs with audio files organized into folders. Each folder contains audio files related to the folder name.
I would like to copy the file names and folders from a DVD-R and paste them into a MS Word file. I am just looking to get a listing of files as they appear on the DVD-Rs in their folders.
The problem is that when I copy and paste, the order changes (seemingly randomly) and the file names are no longer under the folder names. In fact, the whole thing looks to be really random.
Anybody know how to copy file/folder names from a hard drive or DVD-R to a word document and retain the file/folder structure?
Thanks!
LAHD

There is an even easier method with no Terminal magic required. In the Finder, select all the files you want the names of, press Command-C, switch to Word and press Command-V. Poof, your done.
If you view the DVD in List VIew, you can expand the folders you want the files for, then select all the files (and their folders if you want them too) and then do the Copy/Paste thing.

  • How do i copy files and folders from one external harddrive to another on the iMac?

For some reason when i drag the folder or file that i want to transfer or copy from one external harddrive to another, nothing happens when i drop it on the destination folder or drive. however, when i drag and drop to the desktop or any location on the Imac internal hardrive it works without any issue. The only problem is that i dont want to transfer or copy stuff to the computer. i want to copy it to an external harddrive. please help if your have answers to my question.
    Thanks!

Check the formatting of the external hard drive. To do that, right click on the drive icon and select Get Info. (Or click once on the drive and type command +i ) The pane includes information about the drive format.
The drive should be formatted as Mac OS Extended. If it is not, run Disk Utility (App;ications / Utilities) and format the drive.

  • How do I copy mail mailbox folders from an external drive

My old Macbook Air (2009) has died - logic board failed - so I have removed the ssd drive and mounted it in a Runcore usb enclosure from C Memory - worked a treat.  I would like to copy a number of Mail mailboxes I used for archiving old email messages from this drive on to my new Macbook Air but cannot see them or the user library folders on the now external drive.  Any ideas welcome.   Tim

Copy the contents of the folder on the external drive to your user folder on the new hard drive. Example - replace the Music folder with the old one. If you have folders that are the same name it should ask you if it is okay to replace the new ones. Be sure you don't have anything in the folders you replace, as you would lose any contents.

My win8 pc hard drive failed.  After the hard drive was replaced, I copied iTunes Media backupfiles from external hard drive (Karen's Replicator backup software was used).  ITunes does not recognize these back up files even though the location is the same as cloud & recently burned music that does show- help!  The backup files consist of 34,000+ songs; almost all burned from my own CD collection.  I do have most of the songs on an ipod classic but hesitate to try to restore from that.  Can someone tell me how to get these 34,000 songs to show up in iTunes?  Thanks!!

This diagram shows how a typical iTunes library ought to be set out (click on it to enlarge)
The red outline highlights the media folder and its contents, the various subfolders are only created if that kind of content is in your library. The right-hand side shows the files that should be found in the iTunes library folder; sentinel is normally hidden so may not be visible. The core of your iTunes library is the file iTunes Library.itl, you need to restore this, the other library files and the Album Artwork folder, as well as the media folder, to restore your library.

  • !0.5.8 How do I copy the 'system' form one internal Hard drive to an other (BY CD Packed up) Thank you

!0.5.8 How do I copy the 'system' form one internal Hard drive to an other (BY CD Packed up)  I have tried but it will no show 'live' system folder - do and how can I bless it ? Thank you

Carbon Copy Cloner will allow you to de-select directory trees, so you could use it to copy over everything EXCEPT the /Users directory tree.
Mac OS X is NOT just the System Folder.  If you do not copy over the rest of Mac OS X, it will not boot.  So better to exclude Users and take everything else, then it is to try and pick and choose.
The other approach is to install a New Mac OS X, and then copy over the stuff you want from the home folder(s) and reinstall any apps you want.

How do I transfer Adobe CC application from one hard drive to another?

I think you have to start Creative Cloud application, uninstall those CC applications from "Apps" panel, then click "Preferences..." menu item, select "Apps", change "Install Location" to another hard drive, then install those applications from "Apps" panel again.

  • How do I copy a CD/Diskette to my hard drive without making an alias?

The intuitive thing to do has always been to drag the mounted disk/diskette to where I wanted it on my hard drive I then had a folder called the same thing as the mounted media and all was fine.
Now when I do thit I get an ALIAS!
When I select the disk and do a copy and then open the window where I want the contents of the disk to be copied to and do a paste, I get a message stating that I do not have sufficient privledges for some of the items.
Am I to understand that I:
    1) have to make a new folder on my hard disk,
    2) copy the cd/dvd/diskette's name,
    3) paste this copied name onto the folder I created,
    4) open the cd/dvd/diskette,
    5) copy all items,
    6) open the folder I had renamed to the cd/dvd/diskette's name
    7) and paste the copied items?
Is this the method you use to copy an entire disk to your hard drive?
A one step function is now 6 or 7 steps?

    G5 Mac OS X (10.4.2)

    Hello again Jack,
Every OS X shortcut you could every want to know is in the Help files. Click on the desktop and then choose Help>Mac Help from the menu. Click on the link for "Look up topics easily". Then click "K". Next click "keyboard shortcuts". After that, choose whatever topic is relevant. Most of what you'll want will be under "Shortcuts for ...".
A neat trick that you couldn't do in OS 9 is move files. While dragging from one drive to another, you can press the Command key and the files will be moved instead of copied.
I have looked at your posts in the prepress newsgroups for years.
That's interesting. Nice to know I guess that (I assume) my font FAQ is getting around. Although I wouldn't even know where to look for such forums myself.
    Cheers!

  • How do I save to individual folders on my hard drive?

How do I save items to individual folders on my hard drive? When I try now it shows the Macintosh HD icon as an option but not the individual folders I've created there. I think I need to go in to Automator but I must be doing something wrong. I selected "Folder Action" then added several items about PDF
documents and add photos to album. I've specified Macintosh HD as the location and hit run.
It appears to have run correctly because it asks me if I want to save the results. A friend of mine runs several web sites. He has asked me to serve as his off site backup so I'm trying to download several years of material. Saving everything to the HD and then dragging each item to where it belongs will take forever.
    I'm hoping someone can help.
    Thanks Bill

  • Running a DVD TS folders from the Hard Drive

Anybody now whether automator will run a DVD from the hard drive (TS folders). It runs fine from the DVD disk, but all the DVD functions in automator appear to only relate to an inserted disk.
    Thanks.
    Ti 677Mhz

so it works perfectly from the desktop - but fails to
    eject if a startup item?
Yep, its like the DVD player resets itself.
When you say startup - you mean it's in the startup
    folder ?
if so, try it as a login item instead, perhaps?
Yes its in as a login item, is there a start up folder under OSX?
Failing that, I don't know. But I would try a
separate item run after the first that does nothing
except eject the dvd. ie not just another eject
action from automator in the same script but a new
    login/startup item.
So what you are suggesting is create a 2nd script that just does an eject
and include that as a 2nd start up item, so it runs that after the primary script.
    Hmm worth a try.
Thanks again Andy, if you are ever in OZ give me a call I will buy you a beer.

  • How can I rename a song deleted from my hard drive?

    Hi,
I have imported some of my CDs in iTunes and put them on my iPod (30gb video); however, I deleted the songs from my hard drive because it's not very big and I need to free up space.
But once the songs are deleted, can I rename them? When I try to rename such a file, it tells me that it's impossible to find this song.
    thanks for your help!

If the file is not there, you cannot do anything with it.
