You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

The computer not working in no way means the drive is inaccessible.
Place the drive in an external enclosure.
Use the backup of the computer to restore the data to the new computer.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
When you try to copy data to the external drive, what happens? If you don't see any error, the external drive is formatted in NTFS, and OS X can't write in it.
To be able to write on this external drive, you have to use an app like Paragon NTFS. Another solution would be to format the external drive in FAT32 or exFAT with Disk Utility > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html Make sure you copied all the files of the external disk to the internal disk before doing it

The music sync is one way - computer to iphone. The only exception is itunes purchases: Without syncing: File>Transfer Purcahses
Copy everything from your backup copy of your old computer to the new one.

That is correct.
I just explained thatto you.
Thre are NOT duplicates.
ALL photos synced to iphone will be in the "Photo mediateka". You can ALSO access those exact same photos from you named folder. If you had mulitiple photos, then all of the photos would be in the "Photo mediateka" and you could also access the exact same pics from each of the folders.
You do not have duplicates. it is working exactly as it should.

If Apple has not received your phone, obviously it can't even be evaluated for warranty purposes. Have you tried calling AppleCare to verify whether they have received the phone or not?
