How do I copy pdf's to iBook on a Mac?

I am used to iBooks on an iPad but using Mavericks now and need to find out how to move PDFs from the cloud to my iBooks library on my laptop for use offline. Intro says I can save PDFs to iBooks but haven't succeeded. Don't want to do as others have done and save them ALL to iBooks.
I would also like to transfer backed-up iPad data from iTunes to iBooks on my laptop. Any help?

Have you tried using an older version of Adobe Reader? You can download free copies of many older versions. The reason I suggest this is my experience printing pdfs generated by Word. I sometimes embed many complicated formulas generated by equation editor, and the resulting files often won't print directly from Word, so I save as pdf. These sometimes won't print from Preview or the current version of Adobe Reader, but under 10.6.8 (my office computer) I've always had success with Reader 7.0.5. Not sure it will help, but it's something to try. (I've found another work-around under Mountain Lion, but that's another story. )

Placing the PDF into an InDesign document shouldn't be a problem, but if it is, please post back. What I think you're asking for is how to edit a PDF with InDesign, which can't be done. You would need the source document, edit that and then export to another PDF (if PDF is the end goal). There are some programs that can edit PDFs or convert PDFs to other formats (Word, InDesign, etc.), and they will work to one extent or another. You should expect to have to rework parts of it should you go that way. Keep in mind that PDF is generally considered a final document that isn't intended to be edited.

No - it will not work with PDFs. You might consider another cloud service such as Box, DropBox, or Google Docs.

Backed up old iPad 2 on Mac. Restored to new iPad 2. At first all iBook books and saved PDF collection in iBook was there for maybe 5 seconds. The PDF's suddenly disappeared, while the books are still there! Can't see PDF's, although they are still in iBook on the old iPad 2! Any ideas appreciated.

I see the PDF files in the books tab of iTunes. The PDFs were not visible in the books tab of my device.
The sync directions said to click on the books tab. I selected the PDF button. I selected all the PDFs.
I opened sync my iPad.under files/devices and clicked on "my iPad".
The progress bar rapidly went through 1,2,3 of something appearing to be doing what I wanted but no files transferred.
I repeated the above several times.
Those were the directions under help for ios7.02

Sadly the iTunes Store was not released until Mac OS X. You'll need Mac OS X 10.1 and iTunes 4 minimum to get to the iTunes Store on your iBook G3 and the ability to download any podcasts from the store. Since Mac OS X 10.1 wasn't that stable, and few software titles exist for it, I recommend upgrading to a minimum of 10.3.9 which supports iTunes 7.7.1.
Your Blueberry iBook may or may not be compatible with 10.4, as this tip explains:

If you can get 10.4, you can get iTunes 9.2.1.
You will not be able to sync your phone with the iBook regardless of Mac OS X version.
Your iBook is too old to install an Airport Extreme card, so it can't securely hook up wirelessly to your wireless network. Before upgrading you should always back up your devices. If there is any problem you can then restore to the backup. pdfs do not sync across all devices. To sync pdfs you need to connect your devices to your Mac, and depending on where the pdfs are located, you either transfer them to your Mac, or sync them from your Mac to the iPad and iPhone.

i import a number of pdf's representing ameeting agenda as the files names (1xxx,1.1xxxx, 2.xxxx,10.xxxx) on ibook , however the files sorted on a diffrent way as file start with 10 on first . so how can i sor the files on the IBook with its name starting with numbers as1 &1.1 and so on.

You seem to want a numeric sort but are getting a character sort.
a number range would be 0,1,2,3, ... 9,10,11 ...
sorting like everything else with computers is an algorithm. Someone needs to define how it works. When you see a list of files, someone has defined how the list will be sorted. If you compare Windows file sorting to Mac files sorting you will find there are differences.
In the case of files sorting, the files are sorted on characters from left to right. In file sorting the sorting algorithm does not try to determine that files are numbers. All files beginning with a 1 will be sorted together becuase the file sorting althorithm doesn't look at the second character position before grouping all the 1's together.
For what it is worth, there are multple books written on sorting.

The most obvious is to rotate your ipad. Much more fun is to go to settings> general> accessibility> assistive touch> on. Now go back to the pdf, tap the onscreen black button, tap device, tap rotate screen, choose which way you want to rotate screen.
