How do I create a barcode in illustrator

Hi,
How would I go about creating a Barcode in Illustrator?
I used to work in Corel Draw where it had the option of creating a Barcode, now I am uncertain how to do it in Illustrator.
Thank you for your help!

Sandra,
I am afraid Illy is the wrong one to ask to create hyperlinks.
How about saving as a PDF and create the hyperlink there?

  • How do I create an outline in illustrator?

    Hello All,
I am trying to create artwork for printing and I have been asked to save the document as an eps file.
    This is the file:
I need the sbsgroup to be an outline and be transparent in the middle...how do I remove the blue from the background?
I'm quite new to illustrator, haven't used it a lot, so would appreciate any tips please.

    BID,
Here is a screenshot, first the outlined letter S partially above the background, then with a copy and the original turned black underneath, then placed over the middle of the background rectangle, then the Opacity Mask mad after selecting the blackened original and the background rectangle.

  • How do I create this look in illustrator....

I'm recreating some vintage art and am trying to get this spray paint look. Any suggestions on how to go about achieving this look (see photo) in illustrator?
I'm currently running CS4 (I'm on my work computer)....

    - I've tried looking in the preset brushes, no luck!
    - I've tried creating my own brush using vector spray paint, no luck!
    - I've tried looking for illustrator brushes online, no luck!
This seems like a very simple effect to do, I know how to create this look in photoshop but I need this to be vector. Any suggestions would be great!
    Thanks guys!

    First...
There is nothing wrong with a 1-bit diffusion dither object being raster, as far as printing results is concerned. Such images date back to the days of MacPaint and Hypercard. They are same-size (historically usually 1-point) pixels, randomly distributed at varying frequencies to suggest tones (as opposed to individual printer spots being combined to build varying size halftone dots).
So if the tiny squares are vector, yes, they are scaleable. But so are 1-bit pixels. When you scale a 1-bit raster, you're scaling square pixels, which are printed as squares. So a scaled 1-bit raster image is just as "resolution independent" as a bunch of vector squares.
    Second...
This effect was employed in illustrations and designs since the very beginning of desktop publishing. For example, I frequently used it in the 80s thusly:
    1. Draw a vector path of any shape in FreeHand.
    2. Copy it to Photoshop. Blur it. Convert to 1-bit using diffusion dither. Save it as TIFF.
    3. Import into FreeHand. Stack it below the object for which it served as a glow or drop shadow.
FreeHand had the ability to apply any color to a 1-bit or grayscale raster image, and the ability to set the white pixels of a 1-bit image to transparent. Illustrator didn't gain those abilities until decades later.
So it's not oppressively tedious to use that method nowadays, even in Illustrator. (And frankly, that's the way I'd do it.)
    Third...
Illustrator sorely needs to provided a diffusion dither option in its Rasterize command for 1-bit color depth (as I've been arguing for years) instead of its lame pattern diffusion. Then this effect could be applied easily and quickly to any object, either as a "nailed down" rasterization, or as a live effect.
    However...
You can simulate a vector diffusion dither pattern that you can apply to any path by combining several Scatter Brushes and storing their combined application as a Graphic Style:
    1. Draw a 1 point square.
    2. Store it as a Scatter Brush. Set the Spacing and Scatter settings to Random. To constrain the pattern to one side of the path to which it is applied, set the low limit of Scatter to zero.
    3. Duplicate the Scatter Brush two or more times, changing the Spacing and Scatter upper limits in each duplicate so as to make each duplicate Brush increasingly sparse. In the example shown, the first Brush is named Scatter Brush 1 and has its upper limits for Spacing and Scatter to 300. This Brush was duplicated twice, and those two values doubled each time. But of course you can use whatever settings work for the effect you want.
    4. Draw a temporary path with a 1-point stroke. Apply Scatter Brush 1. Select the Stroke Appearance and duplciate it. Apply Scatter Brush 2 to it. Duplicate the Stroke Appearance again, and apply Scatter Brush 3 to it.
    5. Drag the whole path and drop it into the Graphic Styles palette to define a new Graphic Style. Now you can apply the whole Appearance stack to any other path(s) with one click.
Being Brushes, the fineness of the pattern can be adjusted by changing the weight of the strokes:
And, of course, you can apply other effects to the Brushes and strokes involved. For example, set the Colorization Mode of the Brushes to be able to change the color of the dither pattern; and/or apply Transform Effect to offset the pattern from the object to which it is applied (as for dithered drop shadows).

  • How would I create a Barcode Generator in Adobe AIR

I have an app I've been creating in Adobe AIR and it requires the ability to generate barcodes for member cards.  What would be the easiest way to go about this?  Open Office can generate barcodes using an extension but I don't believe it would be possible to open it in AIR and create a list of barcodes.  I'm looking for a way to do this using an open source technology if possible something that doesn't necessarily have to be installed if possible since I'd like this app to be completely self contained if possible.
    Thanks
    Marty

    You could try this:
    http://www.atalasoft.com/cs/blogs/loufranco/archive/2008/04/25/writing-code-39-barcodes-wi th-javascript.aspx
I will be implementing it into a membership program in an air app I'm writing.  I'm partial to html/js, so this will be my stop-gap solution for now.  Good luck!

  • How can I creat this texture in illustrator

    hello
I'm using illustrator CS5 and i want to creat an art brush with applying this texture in it. as you can see in the picture
this is my first try but i was not satisfied with this result
i zoom it in > it is consist of small squares with diffirent colors
i hope you get what i mean,
plz reply as soon as possible
    thanks in advance

Art brushes in Illustrator CS5 can only contain vector artwork. So it will be very difficult to achieve what you want.
You can try to use live trace to get a vector version of your image, but you need to simplify it.
Depending on what you need this for, there might be better methods than a brush.

  • How do I create a Rubber Stamp effect?

If you are familiar with the font "Ink Pad", this is the effect I want to use on an object.  It has the real rough looking edges of a rubber stamp.  How can I create this effect with Illustrator?

    Hello Kelly,
Here is a method that I use:
First place a photo of a wall or floor and use "Live Trace" default
You will end up with a black and white texture like this:
Then Select all the white areas and delete them. If you have a lot of black texture, feel free to delete as much as you want. You can always copy and paste pieces wherever you want.
Now Place your design on top of the texture you have created. Then send the design to the back.
The last step is to select the outlined text and the compound shapes and apply "Subtract From Shape Area" with Pathfinder. Please note that this option does not work on CS3 from the menu (one of the hundred of bugs of this lousy version), so please use the Pathfinder Window.
And this is the end result:
This was a quick sample, but I am sure you can do something a lot better than this sample. I think the difficult part is to get a good photo. Maybe next time I will use a damaged concrete floor or wall photo.
    I hope this helps!

  • How would I create a wheel shape

Hi, I am new to Illustrator
I was wondering how I would create this shape in Illustrator CS3
I have scanned this in in Photoshop but it ain't pretty. I need a clean full version with no gaps and slightly rounded corners. I would be grateful if someone could take the time to explain step by step. Thanks in anticipation

Pie Chart Method this will give you a general idea it requires expanding and use of the another ellipse and deleting path segments.
It is a long story but takes only about ten minutes because you will make some mistakes. And in the end I outlined the strokes
Here is the transform way using two strokes acting as radii and overlapping two concentric circles using the path finder or Live Paint features.
Coloring some stroke with a color of none. You can then expand that. I don't have a screen shot of this method.
Here is with the Polar grid it would really be good that made geometry like this that could easily be updated I think they are called primitives.
A feature long need by Illustrator.

How can I create accurate decimal dimensions when creating a new document or using the art board in Illustrator CS6? When I type in a number with a decimal, it automatically rounds the number up.

For my part you are welcome, sdowers.
Unfortunately, the uncertainty arising from the rounding has been up several times here in this forum.
I just came to remember a warning that needs to be given:
The rounding of the representation of a numerical value may be harmless in itself, but if you use it for any operation that changes the value, such as multiplication or whatever, things will go wrong because the operation will be made on the basis of the rounded value instead of the true value. So, as in your first case in post #2, 39.625 rounded to 39.63 will become 79.26 instead of 79.25.

I realize AI is an illustration program.
Do you realize it is an object-based vector-based program? Do you know the difference between raster-based and vector-based content?
My question seems to be all over the forum but no one has been able to answer other than exporting to these file formats, which make text look awful and of no use....
And yet everyone else in the world makes proper web images every day using a plethora of programs, including these...go figure.
    Am I missing something?
    Yep. Pretty much.
Hello Adobe! People use transparency on website logos.
Hello, cocteau! What you're calling "transparency" is inherent to object-based vector artwork. But web browsers don't support object-based vector artwork, except via file formats like Flash and SVG, or by viewing as a PDF in a plug-in version of Reader. Raster imaging in general only supports "transparency" by either indexing a specific color (i.e.; "don't display this color", as in GIF) or including an alpha channel (i.e.; "blend all the pixels with existing pixels, based on values from this extra channel", as in PNG). It's all in the raster file format you use, cocteau; it has little-to-nothing to do specifically with Adobe software. Such things are among the most basic matters understood by someone doing web design.
When I export an eps from .ai file, and open the eps in photoshop,...I save as a gif for the web, it goes back to the original problem...creates jagged text. I"m giving up on this garbage...Thanks a lot adobe! Lower the price of this software if this is all that can be done.
Once it leaves Photoshop (or Illustrator, or whatever) as a non-proprietary raster image format, it's all about what the format can do re "transparency". You can do this stuff with most any graphics program. You should read about basic web design and the differences between raster and vector content, rather than rant.

    Hello Ellie,
    This is what I do:
First Create the brushes by selecting the shapes desired. Select the shape and place it into the burshes window.
    (Main Menu: Window + Brushes)
Then A new window will show: Please select "New Scatter Brush"
After you click OK, a new window will appear:
In here I have selected Random Size, Spacing and Rotation. You may want to adjust the percentages to you design. The last thing to select is the Colorization Method; in this case "Tints" is selected because will allow me to change the color of the shape by using the color pallet window. After that click Ok and use the brush tool.
This is the end result after using the Mask Feature:
I know you can do something a lot better than this sample. I hope this helps!
