How do I create a contact group on iOS 8

How do I create a contact group on iOS 8, I'm trying to make a new new group for my iphone 6. I've made a group on my older IOS but it's changed on the new IOS 8.

You cannot create a contact group in the built in Contacts app. If your contacts sync with iCloud you can log in to https://icloud.com and manage contact groups there. Or with a contact app on your computer that syncs with iCloud. Alternatively, there are several iPhone apps that are more powerful than the built in Contacts app. You can use one of them to manage groups and contacts within groups. I use Speed Names, but there are several others.

You should have an option to create groups in the File menu. To add contacts to this group, simply drag and drop them to it (switch to Groups display, to view all your groups).
Otherwise, you may create "smart groups", based on some criteria you define (File menu too).
Hope this helps.

• How do i create a contact group to make group messaging easier?

i want to create a contact group of girls from my team to make texting all of them together, but i dont know how to make a contact group.

I think you will need to get an app like GroupSMS to do this. As I recall (Anyone please feel free to correct me here if I am wrong) Apple doesn't offer this feature on iPhone or iPad.

• How do I create a contact group so that I can send an email to several contacts without having to type individual names.

How do I create a group in my contacts so I can send an email to several people without having to type names individually? In gmail on my computer I have several groups of contacts but I don't see them on my iPad air.

In the contacts app there really isn't a way to do this. What I do however, is create a note in the Notes App with the email addresses of the people I want to email to like this: [email protected]; [email protected]; [email protected]
Then when I want to email that group, I just use the copy feature of iPad, pasted it into the to line in an email and voila, I can email to a group.

I would like to create groups from my contact list - when I go into my contact list, on the top left is in blue 'Groups' then 'All Contacts' in black, then '+' in blue - when I click on groups it shows in grey ICLOUD and below 'All Contacts' - over to the right is a blank contact sheet with 'Edit' in blue on the top right - when I tap edit it allows a contact to be added but no way to create a new group - I want to create a new group - info appreciaged - thx - Karen

You cannot create a new group on your iPad without using an app to do so (such as Speed Names). However, you can easily create a group by going to icloud.com from your computer. Open your contacts on icloud.com, tap "+" on the bottom of the left sidebar and select New Group. Give the group a name, then drag and drop the contacts you want to belong to the group on to the group name. The new group will apear on your iOS device.

• How do you create temporary contact groups in Contacts?

I attend music events several times a month, where there are often 1-30k people attending. I've made a lot of friends who also attend these events and like to meet up with them during the event, usually at different times as they often don't know each other.
For example, at one event I might want to meet up with 20 different people. Some I know or perhaps someone who's a friend of a friend might want to meet me. I'll get their phone number as well to text them during the event.
When I was on Windows mobile, I'll create a category named after the event, and I would add whoever I knew who was going the event to that category. After the event, I could just delete the category as it was no longer relevant.
With the iPhone, I don't know how to do anything even close to this. I've done some research, and it looks like you move contacts into a folder, sync, move them back, and then sync again. This sounds pretty tedious, and doesn't account for the fact a contact may belong to several categories at the same time.
Is there a solution in the pipeline or perhaps a 3rd party app that can let me assign contacts to multiple groups?

You might want to look at something like GroupMe.

• How do I create multiple contact groups in the iphone?

I am syncing w/ Windows Contacts in Vista. Is it possible to create multiple groups of contacts? For example - a group for friends and family, another group for customers, etc...

I do it by setting up different categories in Outlook. These sync as groups to the iPhone
I created groups and organized all my contacts into the groups using Outlook. However, the iPhone doesn't give me the option to view the contacts in groups, nor does it even mention or list the group name when you view the contacts individually.

• How am I supposed to use my created iCloud contact group on my iPhone?

I followed the instructions & 'help notes' on creating a contact group by logging into my iCloud account. Now on my iPhone I can see the group when I go to Contacts & click on the upper left hand "Groups" button, but that screen only lists which list of contacts I've got synced with my iCloud. Unless I'm missing something, I do not see how I'm supposed to actually use/implement my new "group." I was hoping to be able to create a new text & type in the name of my group & send, or have an option to choose from a group list to use as my recipients, but instead nothing.
Am I completely missing the point of grouping contacts on the iPhone???

About all you can do is when addressing the email, tap the "+", navigate to your groups, uncheck all groups but the group you want to send the email to and tap Done, then tap each member one at a time to add them to the list of recipients.
Otherwise you can use an app that will allow you to select an entire group at onece (such as Speed Names).

It's a comma (or semicolon) rather than a decimal point, if you're doing it manually, but that method does work across iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
This is actually close to how our "MailShot" app works (unlike most other group email apps) except that MailShot manages the groups for you and makes it easier to delete and add contacts to your groups.
If your groups are small you can try our free version on
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mailshot-group-email-done/id410279354?ls=1&mt=8.
There's an upgrade path to the full version if you like it in that app. or you can go straight to the Pro version:

• How do I create a Public Group on the Calendar Server?

How do I create a Public Group on the Calendar Server?

Anyone can create Private Groups or Member Only Groups. You must be given
administrative rights to create Public Groups on the Calendar Server. The
Calendar Server Admin (SYSOP) can give anyone rights to create Public Groups by
using the uniadmrights tool.

Go to /users/unison/bin/
and run the uniadmrights
tool. Some sample syntax:

To list all users with administrative rights:

% uniadmrights -ls -host yourhostname

To give John Smith, a user on node 10000, rights to administer Public Groups:

% uniadmrights -e "S=Smith/G=John" -add -pgrp -n 10000

In Calendar Server 4.0, you also have the option of using the Admin Server GUI
to assign Administrative
rights (instead of using the command-line method) by going to User Management,
Administration Rights.

With the proper administrative rights, log into the Calendar Client. Go to Options,
Manage Groups to create a new group. Choose PUBLIC from the dropdown window,
add your users and/or resources and click OK to create the Public Group which
can be seen by all users on the local Calendar Server.

The following is info that I found in another post that I have been trying to follow.

Re: Configure DNS - OS X Server Next Steps
Feb 13, 2011 6:36 AM (in response to Jimbooooooo)
You're setting up internal DNS services, you referenced your ISP DNS servers and you should not have, and now those servers have no translations for your hosts. This is a common misconfiguration.
See [configuring DNS on Mac OS X Server|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436] for how to set up your internal DNS server.
And if there are any references to your ISP DNS servers here (within your client settings, within your server settings, your Airport settings, etc), then you're usually going to have DNS and connectivity problems. You're running a server now, so you'll be running your own services, and (particularly because of NAT here) referencing only your own DNS server(s).
You may be setting up external DNS (if and when you need that), but that should happen after you set up your internal DNS. The above article has a link to setting up external DNS, when you get around to that, if/when you need in-bound connections into your LAN.
