How do I create a folder directly on hard drive?

I recently installed Avid Media Composer on my iMac running 10.8.2 and I need to create a folder directly on the hard drive, not in Music or Documents or anything. I need it to be on the most superior level of the hard drive, if that makes sense. Thank you!

Open Finder and select the Macintosh HD link on the left hand side. On the right hand pane Right click and select New Folder. you can also do that from the File menu item or Shift+Command+n. Type in a name and hit the enter key.

i just saved my iphoto original library to my external hard drive, now how do i create new space on my hard drive and create a new iphoto library

Trash the copy of the library you just moved. Then Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
But do you want to have two iPhoto Libraries? Why not just use the one on the External?

  • How do I create an image of my hard drive on a back up drive

I just reinstalled Tiger and I would like to create an image of my hard drive on my back up hard drive. How would I do this.

    Hi geronimomac
    This can be done
    a) via Disk Utility. Start it, highlight the disk you want imaged (that is click on its icon on the left of the Disk Utility window) and then form File > New select "Disk Image from disk..." Save it on your desired location and watch the blue bar progressing.
    b) third party (back-up) utilities such Retrospect, Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! They are all commercial utilities each capable of the task.

  • How to transfer iTunes library & folder to another Hard Drive

My iTunes library and all data (music, video, apps, podcasts) are stored on an external 250 GB hard disk that is now getting almost full.
I wish to transfer everything on a 500 GB external HD and be able to launch my library from this new HD without losing anything or getting all my files with the dreaded "!".
Can someone advise me where to look for instructions on how to proceed?
    Many thanks.
    Frederic

If your library files are on the current external drive, with the media folder inside the main library folder, then simply copy this folder to the new drive and use the hold option/shift when starting iTunes method to open the library in its new location.
If your media folder is on the external but the library files are on the internal drive then start by copying the contents of your iTunes folder, *iTunes Library, iTunes Library Extras.itdb, iTunes Library Genius.itdb, sentinel, Album Artwork* folder etc. to the parent folder of the media folder on the external. (You can leave the .xml file behind, it will have a slightly different name in the new location and will be recreated automatically.) Use the option-launch-iTunes method above to open the library on the external drive. Make sure it all works properly then close it and proceed as outlined in the first paragraph.
iTunes uses the folder name for the folder holding the *iTunes Library* file as the window title, so you may get odd results if your library files are now in the root of the drive. As long as the media folder is stored as a sub- folder of the library folder you can move everything to a new folder or path and use the option-launch-iTunes method. E.g. if your media was at *\iTunes Media* then move the libray files to the root folder \ - open, test and close iTunes - create a folder called iTunes - move the libray files, Album Artwork and iTunes Media folder into the new iTunes folder then open the library in the new location.

  • Create new folder on external hard drive.

I am using an external hard drive with my Mac Air. How do I create a new folder on the EHD so I can sort my documents?

I double clicked on the icon (under Finder/Devices). My choices are: Open, Open Enclosing Folder, Eject Free Agent Go Flex Drive, Get Info, Remove from Sidebar. Do you have any other suggestions?
I also tried double clicking on icon, then going to File. Only choice was "New Smart Folder".

  • How to change iTunes Media Folder location after Hard Drive Died

I have been trying to figure this out from other posts but can't seem to find what I am looking for. I store all my music files on an external hard drive. Recently, the external drive died on me. Fortunately, I had the external backed up on another drive using Time Machine. I bought a new drive for the music and transferred the files onto the new drive. My question is what do I do next? Currently iTunes still searches for the files on the dead drive and I get the exclamation marks next to each song which is obviously not a surprise. I want to change the Media Folder preferences to the new drive but will I then lose all my playlists? Basically what I want to do is direct iTunes to the new drive and keep everything else intact. Is that possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    j

  • How to find "My Templates" folder in the hard drive?  Or "Mainstage Concerts" folder, "Mainstage Layouts" folder

So far I have saved quite a few concerts as templates, but now I want to delete some of the older ones, so they stop showing up teach time I want to start a new concert from a template. I have been looking for the folder in library, application support, logic, also in the mainstage app icon's package contents, but I can't find how to delete those saved templates, and exported layouts. Please advise me on this.

    Hi
If you are running Lion OS, the <User> (Home) folder where MS 2.1.3 stores these files is hidden by default.
The easiest way to get there is using the Finder;Go menu: Hold down Option (Alt) and the Library will show up in the Go Menu.
Once you have the User Library window open, drag it to the Sidebar.
(There are also ways of 'un-hiding' the <User> Library via Terminal etc)
    The Mainstage files are in
    <User> Library:Application Support:Logic.

  • How do I access a folder from my hard drive and import into Lightroom?

Lightroom does not recognize the folder and tells me the photos are not online.

If you haven't yet - go into lightroom - select library  - on the left you will see "folders" click the + sign and find the folder on your computer. Lightroom will not by default add folders that do not have images in them.  Hope that helps... if you're already doing that try to describe your problem in more detail

iPhone Local Storage "My iPhone" - How do you create this folder for use by the Notes app on a iPhone or iPad?  If I want to keep some notes only on my device and not in a cloud environment associated with an e-mail account.  I've seen reference to the  "My iPhone" local storage put no mention on how you create this folder or access this folder within the Notes app.  I realize storing information in a local storage like this provides no syncing between other iDevices but that is exactly what I'm looking for.  I'm running iOS7.0.4 on a iPhone 5S, and a iPad Air.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you go to Settings > Notes > Default Account you will see "On My iPhone" as the default account and the only choice if you have not enabled syncing Notes in Settings >iCloud or Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. If you have enabled syncing you can still select "On My iPhone" as the default account. When you are in the Notes app you won't see any accounts listed if you have not enabled syncing because they are all in the On My iPhone account and that is the only place possible. It is not a folder that you create.

  • HT2798 I have a Mac OS 10.6.8 server in my classroom that I have networked to each student's account.  How do I create a folder that allows them to place their finished assignments in it, but does not allow them to go in and remove anything from that fold

I have a Mac OS 10.6.8 server in my classroom that I have networked to student accounts on the iMacs in the room.  How do I create a folder that allows studnts to place their finished assignments in it, but does not allow them to go in and remove anything from that folder?

You want a "Drop Box" style folder. You should be able to achieve this by creating a folder and giving it permissions similar to the "Drop Box" folder in your users Public Folder (i.e. write only permissions.)

If you are on iOS 5 and it's an IMAP type account then you should get an Edit button at the top of the list of folders that you currently have on your email account. If it's a POP type account or if you are still on iOS 4 then you won't get the Edit button.

You cannot create folders in the Notes App on the iPad. Notes are tied to your mail accounts. You can tap on the Accounts button in the upper left corner of the app to switch from notes in one mail account to the another mail account.
