How do I create a multi-line text box?

I have a PDF that was tradionally printed and filled out by hand, and am trying to convert to an e-version.
Everything is working great but I can't figure out how to make this one thing work. For example I have a section like this:
More Info: _______________
How can I make it so when one starts typing in the "More Info" section, their response continues from the 1st line to the 2nd, to the 3rd, etc.?

You can set a text field to be multi-line and tick off the option to scroll
long text to have it automatically wrap, but you'll have a problem with the
first partial line, since form fields can only be rectangular. Another
problem might be the lines themselves, since you'll have to use a font size
that will fit them exactly, or it will look odd. I would suggest getting
rid of those lines altogether. They are not needed when filling in the form
electronically. It's a relic from printed out forms where people had to
hand-write their answers.

  • Can Captivate 5 support multi-line text boxes?

    A colleague is trying to add a text box, where the user will need to enter multiple lines...  We don't want word wrap, we actually want the user to be able to add carriage returns and additional lines...  Is that possible?
    If the text box element can't do multiple lines, is there a way to accomplish this using a different canned element? (non-klunky, I've read the 3-year-old thread on this topic.)

  • Is there a proper way to config multi-line text boxes so they're compatible with all/most browsers?

    I've got forms that use multi-line text-boxes and they work fine with IE and Chrome.  A user just discovered that in Firefox the fields don't wrap (it basically appears to be a large field but acts like a single-line).
    Is there a workaround/fix for this?

    Is the input text just some dummy text line e.g. "aaaaaaaaaaaaa...." without any spaces? Try by adding lorem ipsum sample text i.e. actual words with spaces between. It should wrap.

    Firefox 37.01 —Here's a screenshot of it not wrapping:
    (each of the above are 2 long paragraphs that are not wrapping and showing as 2 single lines.)
    And here's a screenshot of Text Box Properties (I've tried it with and without autocomplete and spell-check just for kicks).

  • Custom themes: How do I create & edit an auto-text box?

    Hello
    Continuing my exploration of custom themes
    I have now found out how to make text boxes editable (control-command-option-T, that was carefully hidden!) and am now struggling with creating and editing 'auto text' boxes (not sure what their real name is in Keynote-speak)
    1) Creating new text boxes:
    Let's take a simple theme like White. One of the Masters is Title + Bullets Left. Now let's assume I want to create two text boxes with bulllets - the existing on the left and another on the right. In PowerPoint it's pretty simple: highly text box; copy; paste; move & resize as needed. Well Keynote won't let me Copy so that's out. If I create a fresh Text box, I can mimick the indent levels, bullets, font attributes, etc. (long and painful) but it still won't work because it is not a placeholder text box (fixed size) but a regular text box (size depends on content).
    I'm sure I'm missing a trick!
    2) Edit auto-text boxes
    Again, take any theme, say White again; If I choose a Master with a set text placement, say Photo Vertical, there is very little I can do with it: I can change text attributes and box size, but I can't touch the number of indentation levels for example. Then again what defines a text box as been 'double click here to edit' from a regular placeholder?
    Overall I think I'm missing a whole editing 'avenue' regarding masters - Anyone care to guide me?
    Thanks!

  • How do I increase the leading in a multi-line text box?

    Is this possible?
    I did find this one posting from a few years ago where someone was asking a similar question:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/286972
    Was this feature ever added? If not - how can I make the code work posted in reply to that post?  Just hiding the lines would be a good alternative, I think. I tried adding the code to my existing PDF but it doesn't appear to do anything, the lines are still visible when you type into the field.

    No, leading control has not been added and it probably never will be.
    The code in that other thread is not complete since the functions that he's calling are not shown. They are not built-in. Here is a link to a document with a multiline field that behaves this way: https://workspaces.acrobat.com/?d=AG6oZ3bi3DYHokxDPeWN7A
    There are several small scripts in various events that control the behavior.

  • How to create a muli line text area using JavaFx

    Hi all,
    Since the preview SDK does not contain TextArea any more, I am wondering how to create a muli line text area using JavaFX. The behaviour of this text area/field should be somehow similar to JTextArea in Swing or StyledTextWidget in SWT.
    Does JavaFX have any support for this? What would be a sensible approach to create such a widget?
    Thanks for your suggestions,
    br michael

    This is a pretty old thread (I know I came across this while searching for something similar recently), but I figured I'd throw this out there in case other people might find this useful. As I write this, JavaFX's latest version is 1.3... which may have added the needed functionality since the last post.
    You can now create a multi-line text area using a TextBox and by specifying the nubmer of lines and setting the "multiline" value to true. It may not offer all of the same functionality as JTextArea, but it did the job for what I needed... newlines by pressing enter, scrollbar if text surpasses height, etc.
    Here's a simple example:
    Group {
       content: [
          TextBox {
             text: "This is a multi-line textbox"
             lines: 10  // <-- this may/may not be necessary depending on your situation. Default is 5.
             multiline: true

  • New lines created in excel when displaying multi-line text item value

    Hi all,
    I put the value of a multi-line text-item into a csv file :
    DECLARE
    file_filter VARCHAR2(256) := 'Export Files (*.csv)/*.csv/All Files (*.*)/*.*/';
    fExp VARCHAR2(256);
    in_file Text_IO.File_Type;
    linebuf VARCHAR2(4000);
    BEGIN
    fExp := get_file_name ( directory_name, file_name, file_filter, NULL, SAVE_FILE, TRUE);
    IF fExp IS NOT NULL
    THEN
    set_application_property(cursor_style,'BUSY');
    in_file := Text_IO.Fopen( fExp, 'W');
    linebuf := NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.LIBEL_TRAITE,'') || ';' ||
    NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.NUM_ANFR_ID,'') || ';' ||
                             NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.ver_fiche,'') || ';' ||
                             NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.titre,'') || ';' ||
    NVL(to_char(:com_bnc_possibles.date_creat, 'dd/mm/yyyy'),'') || ';' ||
    NVL(to_char(:com_bnc_possibles.date_valide, 'dd/mm/yyyy'),'') || ';' ||
    NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.LIBEL_STATUT,'') || ';' ||
    NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.label_reg,'') || ';' ||
    NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.nom,'') || ';' ||
    NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.prenom,'') || ';' ||
    NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.nom_societe,'') || ';' ||
    NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.comp_bnc,'') || ';' ||
    NVL(:com_bnc_possibles.motifs,'') || ';' ;
    Text_IO.Put_Line( in_file, linebuf);
    Text_IO.Fclose( in_file);
    set_application_property(cursor_style,'DEFAULT');
    END IF;
    END;
    And when I opened the csv file then the remaining lines , that is from the second line , of the column "motifs" are displayed through the column A of excel. The "motifs" multi-line text-item has 500 as its Maximum Length property value, and has a Char Data Type property value.
    So how to display all the motifs' lines through the same column M without displaying the remaining lines in column A ?
    Or are there tips to remove CHR(13) characters from a multi-line text-item ?
    Thank you very much indeed.

    <html>User authentication failed. <br*> Cause: Invalid password.</html> --remove *
    So I am able to see the prompt like :-
    User authentication failed.
    Cause: Invalid password.

  • How to create a multi-line table/column comment

    Can someone tell me how to create a multi-line table or column comment?
    Apparently, the concatenate operator (||) does not work with the COMMENT statement.
    I've searched the Oracle manuals and couldn't find an answer.
    COMMENT ON TABLE sometbl IS 'i would like to break up this comment into several lines in order to improve readability'; Effectively, this is what I'd like to do (but it doesn't work):
    COMMENT ON TABLE sometbl IS
      'i would like to break up ' || CHAR(10) ||
      'this comment into several lines ' || CHAR(10) ||
      'in order to improve readability' || CHAR(10); Oracle version is 10.2.0.4

    Why not just
    SQL> create table t (a int)
    Createtable successfully completed.
    SQL> comment on table t is 'i would like to break up
    this comment into several lines
    in order to improve readability'
    Commenton successfully completed.
    SQL> select * from user_tab_comments where table_name = 'T'
    TABLE_NAME           TABLE_TYPE  COMMENTS
    T                    TABLE       i would like to break up
                                     this comment into several lines
                                     in order to improve readability
    1 row selected.?

  • How do you display multi line text

    Hi
    How does one display multi line text? I would like to display address information on the screen so that the user can select it and copy/paste it into another application (ms word).
    I have the address information as separate columns (address1, address2, city, province, postal code) so I've changed the query on my view object to add it as address1 || chr(10) || address2 || chr(10) || city ....
    If I display it on the page as an output text, it all displays as one line (okay, the chr(10) thing did not work but that's beside the point).
    In general, is there a way to display multi line text? What component is suitable for this, if there is one?
    Thanks

    You can use normal outputText components in a panelGroupLayout (vertical layout) and add each attribute to it. The remove the labels or set the components to simple. You can then mark the data in the browser and use normal copy&paste to transfer the data.
    If you want to output longer text with line breaks you can use an outputText with escape=false and use the br html tag to generate a line break;
    <af:outputText escape="false"
    value="+++++++long<br>test<br> this is a long text in multiple lines" id="ot10" truncateAt="#{viewScope.ToggleBean.truncateLength}"/>Timo

  • How to add multi-line text in comments field of song tags in iTunes 12?

    Recently upgraded to iTunes 12 and can no longer enter multi-line text in the comments field of a song tag.  Used to use option+return (alt+enter) to go to a new line (carriage return).  Can it still be done?  Any help in this regard would be appreciated.

    See my other post for the solution to this problem.

  • Printing all text in a multi-line text field??  Can it be done?

    I was wondering if there is a way to print out a multi-line field and have all text entered print as well.  Currently, anytime someone enters more information in a multi-line text field on our form than is set to show without scrolling, when a PDF is created for printing from the results page, only the text that fits within the specified size prints.  You can scroll within the PDF and read it all, but I can't seem to figure out how to get all of the text to show and have that field resize accordingly on the printed copy.
    Is there a way?  Thanks.

    Is there an easy way to determine the character count that is visible in a given multi-line text field when designing the form, so if I want to allow 500 characters, the text box I create is large enough for 500 characters?  Obviously I can just do a trial and error process using a cut and paste of 500 characters and testing it, but is there an easier way?

  • Displaying Multi Line Text

    Hi,
    I am having issues in displaying multi line text on a Text Item. Basically there is data in the database column DetailText which is stored like this with carriage returns :
    If I look at the column in Toad it is formatted with all the carriage returns correctly eg.
    Hello
    World
    When I display this in my StaticStyled Item it displays like "Hello World" in one line. I want to be able to display it as it is with the carriage return on 2 seperate lines.
    I have looked in this forum and one search 2 places and one suggestion was to use RawText Item type. I have tried changing the Item Type to Raw Text and FormattedText but it doesn't make any difference. The lines are still displayed horizontally instead of vertically. Another place I saw was to use OAHTMLWebBean but doesn't show how I can do this.
    This should be simple enough but I have searched the DevGuide and this forum and couldn't figure out the solution. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
