How do I create a newsletter with facing pages that have the margins adjusted for stapling the pages on the left side? ...Like a book.I hate the new pages.

Can anyone recommend a program for newsletters that makes sense.  I used AppleWorks and the old page without any problem. Facing pages, two columns, text boxes, photos, mastheads.   The new pages *****! I can't adjust spacing between lines as needed, I can't adjust the margins for facing pages. Inspector is not what it used to be.  If I use Pages '09 v. 4.3 (1048), I am not allowed to make corrections. My choice is cancel, update, or correct a copy which is no longer '09.

    I don't think there's a single place that will give you a list but you can check your devices to create one.  On your iOS devices go to Settings>Messages>Receive At and check the Apple ID at the top.  You can check FaceTime at Settings>FaceTime.  You can check iCloud at Settings>iCloud>Account.  On your Mac go to System Preferences>iCloud> click on Account Details.  On your PC go to Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet>iCloud (you Apple ID is listed on the left).

    I'll assume you want to create a still to use outside FCPX, not a still frame within FCPX.  It's kinda hidden in the "share."  Go File/Share/Add Destination.  You want "Save Current Frame."  After you've created that destination, it'll be there for you in the future under Share.

    I believe that would be because the usernames on the two computers are different. You will have to change the ownership of everything you copy over from the old computer or change the username on the new computer so it's the same as the one on the old computer. Doing this is a bit complcated:
    OS X: How to change user account name or home directory name
    Changing file ownership is a bit easier. If you have copied all the files from the old computer into the Home folder of the new computer then do this:
    To fix Home folder permissions
    Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder.  At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
    Press RETURN.  You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

  • Aperture replaces images with other images that have the same image number

    Help! Aperture has started replacing images in recent projects with older images from elsewhere on my hard drive that have the same image number. Obviously I need a better numbering system, but can someone help me figure out why this is happening? I store master files on an external drive and the "replacement" files seem to be coming from identically named images on my local HD or in iPhoto.

    I started renaming all of my images when I import them. I'm using referenced images to an external drive, although I still have a bunch of older images stored in the Aperture library under my old numbering system (which was basically whatever image number the camera generated)....need to move them all to the external drive but haven't had time.
    So here's the latest problem: Today, Aperture started replacing images in albums (referenced images with unique file names under my new system) with old images even though the file names weren't even remotely close. It also replaced the images with the preview for the old image (230 pixels wide). "Show master" showed me the preview for the old image, not the correct image.
    I tried forcing an update to the preview, but it had no effect. The real masters are intact on the external drive, but this is really scaring me. It happens out of the blue, right in front of me...I watch as my images appear to be replaced with random old images in Aperture. It appears to have nothing to do with file names, as I'm now using totally unique file names.

    I have a one-page form created in Acrobat Pro 9 that contains five fields for a user to complete. I'd like to give the user the option of adding a page with the same five fields to fill out. The user finishes those fields, presses an "Add a Page" button, and then gets another page to fill out, and so on. When finished, their PDF form might be 10 pages long, at which point the user can save it as a single PDF file. Is this possible to do in Acrobat Pro 9 or 10, and if so, how?

    When I created a new template like you told me, I wasn't given the option to rename the fields. See screenshot below. I'm just given the option to add a new template. Changing it refers to changing the template to a different page.
    If you can show me how to have the fields renamed automatically or use the rename parameter, I think that should fix it.

    Use the Holiday Colors theme for a folded card.  For the outside select the layout that just includes a full page photo. For the inside select the layout that suits your eye..

    Columns do what columns do, flow from the bottom of the left hand column to the top of the right hand next column. So won't do what you want.
    Your tag says you are using OS X 10.5.8 but you say you are using Pages 5 so one or the other is not correct.
    If you migrated up to Pages 5 what did you do with your previous Pages '08 or '09?
    Because Pages 5 is missing over 100 features, one of which is Textbox linking, that would allow to flow down through a series of Textboxes set up like columns.
    What you can do is run the Latin text down a narrow document to the left and add individual Textboxes to the right and put your English translations in those. The Latin will flow but the English will not.

    I am creating a 'How to' diagram using illustrations from a previous artist. As such I need to recreate his way of creating image gradients. He seems to do it by using only a small amount of gradient steps creating quite block like gradients. Like this: How would I go about getting my smooth gradients like this? At the moment I am creating a smooth gradient filled object, expanding it then specifying the steps in the dialogue box that then appears. But this does not really recreate the same gradient (please see as follows):So my question is does anybody know how this artist has done this? As the gradients also seem to follow the contours of the object.

    If you do wish a more precise recreation, I am afraid you need to approach it some other way.
    As I see the original artwork, it has small roundings at the left end, and it has a dark outer stroke and a blend inside from bottom to top, and on top of that it has three slightly shorter parts, the two lower ones abutted. Everything narrower at the left end, except for the stroke which is uniform.
    You may recreate all that in this maybe rather silly way:
    1) Create a rectangle with the original width and right side height and with the same Stroke Weight and colour as the original and with a solid fill the same colour as the original at the bottom, then create a corresponding rounded rectangle with Corner Radius corresponding to the roundings to the right, and place it on top of the rectangle;
    2) Select both and Pathfinder>Divide, then delete the corner paths to the right, then select the rest and Pathfinder>Unite (or whatever it is called in your version to get one path with rounded corners to the right, then scale the H value to the original left side height;
    3) Copy 2) to the front, remove the fill, and lock the copy (which holds the stroke), to work on with the fill/nostroke path;
    4) Create two copies of 2) and hide the topmost one;
    5) With one of the top Reference Points ticked in the Transform palette, select the visible copy path 4) and reduce the H value to a small suitable value (1pt or something, depending on the size);
    6) Select 3) and 5) and Object>Blend>Make (with Smooth ticked in Object>Blend>Options), this should give you the background fill;
    7) Show the copy hidden in 4) and reduce its height to 1/6 (divide the H value by 6), change the fill to the right (darker) solid colour/shade, move it to a position 1/6 up, and reduce its W value by a small amount so the bottom fill shows at the ends;
    8) Move a copy of 7) 1/6 up;
    9) Move a copy of 8) 1/3 up;
    10) Adjust the colours/shades of 8) and 9), unlock the stroked path from 3), and Group everything, now you should have the whole artwork represented, only rectangular;
    Depending on version, you may then:
    11a) For the newest version(s) create an Art Brush to be applied to simple paths with decreasing width towards the right, or
    11b) For any version, Direct Select the Anchor Points to the far right, and Object>Transform>Scale vertically to get the original height to the right.

  • How to implement two different websites with one section that has the same content?

    I have two sister websites, each for a separate but related department in a hospital. On each of these websites, I have a main tab called library, which has about 30 pages within it for related healthcare issues. The library is the exact same content on each site, but the main navigation and header for the site is obviously different. I have been upkeeping this identical content on both sites (if something is changed, then I have to do it twice). This isn't efficient and I would like to find a way to combine them somehow. I don't have a ton of experience but I catch on pretty quickly and I basically need ideas for the best way to handle this. I have considered creating a third site, and the library tab on each of the other sites would take you to this new site. I have also wondered if there is a way to embed duplicate content into two separate pages (maybe with an iframe). That way I would update the original file and it would be updated on both sites.
    The sites also have different body sizes. One is 960 pixels wide and the other is 690 because it has a sidebar that makes it smaller. How would you all recommend I handle this? I use Dreamweaver CS6 and my pages are all HTML

    I looked into Server Side Includes and I think I would like to try it, but I can't seem to get it working. The problem is both of my sites are under a separate domain but hosted the same way I believe. For instance, I have two dreamweaver sites, but when I use my FTP, I have one large folder for the main site, then the sister site is in a folder within the main site folder. Although you can get to the main site using www.ukneurology.com, you can also get to the site using kyneurosurgery.com/neurology/index.html. I think this is what is messing me up because I can't seem to get it to work right.

    Three different members of Adobe Support have unfortunately been unable to resolve this problem so I am pinning all of my hopes on my fellow users! Please Help!
    I have been sent a PDF by my client (created via their previous agency) which when opened in Reader (not Acrobat) enables me to edit the existing text (in the existing fonts, granted only Helvetica) and re-save it as a hi-res PDF.
    I have tried virtually everything to get this to work without success, I can create 'editable fields' but this deletes the existing text and inserts a blank box over the top which I can type into with the default 'Times'.
    What will ultimately happen is that I will design the documents in English and then they will be uploaded to an ftp for download at various offices around the world. Therefore they need to translate what we have written but retain the same document design.
    I know this is possible because I have the PDF in front of me, I also know that PDFs in essence weren't designed to be editable but apparently it is now achievable and very useful if I can get the blasted thing to work

    Well, everything in those PDFs were form fields. You can make form fields in Acrobat - and then you can right-click on 'em and change their appearance, whether or not they'll accept rich text input, whether or not they'll scroll, and so on. It could also be done in LiveCycle Designer, for what it's worth. I wrote a now-obsolete post about this in response to yours before Mike showed up with this video.
    Probably most of your work on your designs in InDesign would need to be trashed; you'd need to rebuild the whole thing in Acrobat or LiveCycle. I have to say that, unless your targeted documents are extremely simple, that this is one of the worst document translation workflows I've ever seen in the last fifteen years. It might work - I'm trying to keep an open mind, here - but if you have any non-Latin-script languages in your target list, or if print reproduction is what you're after, or if you're expecting tracking revisions to the translations to be anything but a nightmare, I would suggest that you test this method inside and out before progressing any further.
