How do I create a rule in mail that only applies to flagged messages?

I would like to create a rule in mail that would delete messages of a certain age, but I need to keep some messages safe. I would like to be able to flag these or put them in a mailbox and have a rule making messages with those flags or mailboxes safe from being deleted. Is that something I can do? Thanks!

You can create a local mailbox and move the messages you want to keep there. I don't see any kind to rule you can make to move a flagged message, so you would probably have to do it manually, unless you can use other criteria to identify messages you wish to keep.
If you're using the server settings in mail to determine the age before deletion, the local mailboxes would be safe from that deletion. You can set to store messages on server for up to 30 days before deletion. This will work for IMAP accounts, but don't apply to the inbox. Just to the other main mailboxes such as Sent, Trash, etc.
If you create a rule to delete messages after a certain age (outside of what the servers would do automatically), I think it would only work on the inbox if at all, but not sure. If it were applied through all, it would delete them from the local folders also.
You can create a smart mailbox and input certain criteria such as flagged, age. You could exclude any mailbox that you don't want to include, such as local folders, by adding that to part of the criteria. You would have to delete the messages manually as they accumulate. This would be useful when you save a lot of mail, but say you only want to keep messages less than a year old. This would help you instantly see messages that meet your deletion criteria without having to manually check messages for age.

    Hullo,
how can I create a new E-mail address for the Marketing Manager (i.e. marketing professional role in SAP CRM) please.
That when you go and create a new E-mail campaign you need to choose an E-mail form in addition to the E-mail address of the Marketing Manager.
    Kind Regards.

  • How do I create a rule that only applies to one mailbox?

How do I create a rule that only applies to one mailbox? For example deleting the messages in the box after 10 days.

You don't.  Rules are applied only to new incoming messages, or manually to the selected messages.  They cannot be used to delete messages after an amount of time.  You could create an AppleScript or Automator action that would do that and then use a recurring event in iCal to run that script.

If you are on iOS 5 and it's an IMAP type account then you should get an Edit button at the top of the list of folders that you currently have on your email account. If it's a POP type account or if you are still on iOS 4 then you won't get the Edit button.

How do you create new maps in Mail on iPad?
In the iPad-manual they mention you can put messages in other mailboxes or maps (to free up the Inbox).
But they don't mention how to create such maps.
In the app itself I can't find a way to do it.
    thanks for all replies

Maybe you are confused by the fact I used the word 'maps' instead of 'folders' (my natural Ianguage is Dutch).
For your question about the manual: on page 59 in the 'iPad 2 user guide' under 'organizing Email' they say you can move messages to a different mailbox or folder.

How do I create new folders in mail on IPad and IPhone for saving emails?

You can't do it on the iPad you would need to do it on your computer and the folder will be seen by your account on the iPad and iPhone only if they are IMAP and Exchange accounts. POP accounts are not supported for folders.

    Hi support Team,
Whit thunderbird email client, How I could create a rule email messages trigger a dial phone when arrive a particulary email body word?
    regards,
    Alessandro.

I don't think you can do that with regular Thunderbird. But this add-on
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/filtaquilla/
lets you run javascript, or IIRC, launch an external program when a given filter condition is met. So this doesn't exactly provide an answer to your question, but makes a possible solution possible. '

"when I try save to PDF it just wants to save it to a file?"
Correct. The difference between "Mail PDF" and "Save PDF" is that the first opens a new Mail message with the file attached. the second saves a file which you may attach to an email message.
"Terrainathome is a good example of what I am trying to do."
Not familiar with Terrainathome, but my guess is that the company is sending an email message containing HTML code that downloads what's essentially a web page into the displayed message. To do that, you'll need a website, software that will produce the necessary HTML code, and recipients with email clients capable of interpreting HTML (which is 'most email clients' these days).

What do you mean it does on your iPhone?
If you download a new email to your computer and read that mail and then download it to the iPhone it sees it as already read? Then maybe the iPhone is using the Hotmail IMAP system? Not sure.

How do I create a Bing Maps route that stays on a U.S. Route number for tourism/scenic purposes?  I want to go from point a to point b while staying as much as possible on a US route number, such as US 6 or US 20 or US 101 or US 40, (and the defunct
    US 66).
Instead of dragging points back to the road every time it pulls you onto a faster route, can I just say "use RT20 as much as possible?"
Or as simple as choosing a point on a US Route and selecting the entire length as a trip.   The idea is to plan trips throughout the USA avoiding interstates, and staying on the actual original routes.
I am posting this here at request from Microsoft Support Engineer as a more complex request.

This is already on the feature request list from one other person. This would take a lot of work to implement from a technical side of things. given that only one other person has requested this, there isn't much of a business case for this yet.

  • How Do I Create a Blank Line Mail RULE ?

I've been getting a lot of Spam that always features friend's email address's and a Blank Subject line. So I would like to create a Rule that if the Subject line is Blank, send it to the Trash.
But of course it won't let me create a rule leaving one of the fields Blank, ie. empty.
My address book has been hacked it would seem because these Spam/Junk messages for a Canadian Pharmacy always have a blank subject line, are addressed from a friend and is Cc'ed to other friends! The pharmacy's address is disguised by another address, which sometimes features something of interest to me, like Architecture! Scary ...

The following rule should do the trick:
For the "If" section, select any or all (doesn't matter when using only 1 condition).
    Then select:
"Subject" >> "Is equal to" >> leave the text box empty (deleting contents if any)
For the "Perform Action" section, select "Move Message" >> "Junk"

I want to create a rule that deletes emails that remain unread after a period of time like 3-6 months. Can someone tell me how to set this up? After deleting from a smart mailbox you need to use the Mailbox ➙ Erase Deleted Items menu option:

  • How can I create subfolders in Mac Mail for an Exchange account?

I use Mac Mail on OS X 10.8.4 to download my Exchange mail, which is hosted on Office 365.
I can create folders inside existing subfolders in my Inbox, but if I try to create one as a first-level subfolder of the Inbox the option does not exist. Instead, it creates another top level folder and puts it at the bottom of the folder list, not inside the Inbox.
Can anyone tell me how to add a normal subfolder to my Inbox?

    Exchange Basics
The Inbox syncs more frequently than any other and should be kept as clean as possible. (this is the number one cause of problems with sync). Do NOT make subfolders under the Inbox.
Exchange checks the server for updates every minute, any folder that has updates will subsequently be synced. Since Exhange has a limit on how many folders can be synced at a time, there can be a queue of folders waiting. The Inbox does get high priority so it will generally sync before other folders that also need to sync.
Keep your folders under the 2GB limit. That's approx 6-10K messages per folder (does not include subfolders) Outlook does not export folders over 2GB as .mbox files
    Exchange  Header
    Inbox
      Folder A  <---this is wrong
    Drafts
    Deleted Items folder
    Junk
Folder A  <-- this is correct
It's best to move folders using your web interface (OWA) but you can drag in Outlook and/or Mail.
    In Browser via OWA
Because of the massive changes the process is best done in your browser. I would also put Mail into work offline mode during this process. After all is moved on the server via the browser, I would delete the Exchange account and let it all download correctly from the server.
