How do I create a virtual directory in Snow Leopard Server Admin program?

Hi, how do you use the server admin program in snow leopard server to create an apache virtual directory? I can't see it in the applet anywhere. Thank you.

Well this is what I thought too but I don't think I'm doing something right. I have a default website on port 80 and I created a second site on the same port. They are two different websites. One is the initial one that comes stock with the osx. The second one I created.
When I browse to my server I get the second site. How can I get the default to be the one that points to the mail, wiki, calendar stuff, while my second domain is something totally different.
http://myserver (should be the default stuff like mail.)
http://myserver/mysecondsite (should be my other stuff.)
The problem is that when I go to http://myserver it is going to http://myserver/mysecondsite
What am I doing wrong? Thank you.

    how can I create a disk image of snow leopard installer disk from my Imac which runs it? It came without DVD installer, and I want to make a copy of it's OS installer but can't find out how.

    You need to have the disc in order to create disk image of snow leopard installer disc. What did your machine ship with? If something later than SL, then why? If earlier, then you can buy the SL installer disc and make the disk image.

  • How to create a virtual directory for the Report Server

    Hi, I am new to server admin and need help with configuration.
    I would like to map a physical directory on the server so that users can use a virtual path to save report outputs in that location. For example the form will call the report with desname = 'd:\xyz\abc.pdf' and the output file will be saved in a predefined directory on the server. I know how to do it on the forms server using the orion_web.xml but not sure about the report server configuration.
    We are using rwservlet to run reports on 10G release2/Windows 2000.
    Thanks in advance,

    Virtual directories are mapped in the httpd.conf file in the Apache directory as aliases:
    Alias /xyz/ "d:\xyz\"
    You can now call the report output with
    http://server/xyz/abc.pdf

  • Small problem: how using "Remote Desktop" on Snow Leopard Server

    Hello,
    How can I login to the Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server from 2 different Macs ?
    Before I bought my Mac Mini Server in July, I asked the Apple Support if Snow Leopard Server has the equivalent of the Windows Remote Desktop functionality. He told me that it is possible. He did not tell me how, but I believed him.
    I cannot find it in the documentation. Only 1 person can use screensharing. But I need more than 1 person working on the Mac OS X Server.
    I moved our Photo library to the Mac OS X Server. With filesharing it takes 5 minutes to start iPhoto on our client iMac ( 1Gbps network). That is unworkable. So, from more iMacs users have to login to the server and start iPhoto on the server.
    Thanks for the solution.
    Hubert Anemaat

    As per Jason's reply, there are two Terminal Server products available for Mac OS X. I have been testing both, both work in the same sort of way and will allow multiple simultaneous users to connect.
    The typical approach is to (obviously) first to install one of these Terminal Server programs on your server. Then you (ideally) need another server hosting your Mac network home directories, and it needs to share the network home directories via NFS rather than AFP.
    Note: Due to the way Mac OS X handles mounting AFP shares, you cannot have two users using the same share at the same time as the login defines the privileged's and the first logins privileged's would not be suitable for the second user, this is also why you cannot use "Fast User Switching" with two network login accounts when using AFP.
    So, a client uses an RDC client (e.g. the free Microsoft Remote Desktop Client) to connect to the Terminal Server, this initiates a network login which access the users home directory via NFS.
    RDC client (Mac or PC) ------> Mac Terminal Server <------ Mac network home directories
    I have not tried iPhoto, but have tried various other applications, e.g. FileMaker, AppleScript, Microsoft Office 2004, etc. and the only problem I have hit so far is that Visual Basic in Office 2004 generates errors but Word and Excel otherwise work. Remember Office 2008 does not support Visual Basic (i.e. Macros).
    I would actually expect iPhoto to work for multiple users as long as you use NFS. Using NFS for network home directories rather than AFP has actually 'fixed' a couple of badly written applications that had problems with AFP based network home directories, e.g. Adobe Acrobat 9.
    I am using Mac OS X 10.6.4 Servers.

  • How can i specify username/password while creating a virtual directory

    Hi,
    i m trying to create a virtual directory in 9iAS on a mapped drive. How can i specify which username password to use to enable to connect to the network mapped drive. Is there any way where we can specify username / password ???
    thanks
    Unmesh

    9iAS R1
    Run the report service as a local account with administrator rights.
    On the target server, create a local account with the same user name and password.
    Now you can use the hidden shares ($) for example:
    &destype=file&desname=\\servername\d$\report_output\report.pdf
    9iAS R2 and 10g
    Pretty much the same thing except by default, the report server runs inline. I have not been able to get the entire service to run as a particular user. To get around this, I created a report server service and do not run the reports in process. It uses the separate service.
    rwserver -install rep90_name
    edit <ORACLE_HOME>\reports\conf\rwservlet.properties file.
    SERVER_IN_PROCESS=NO
    SERVER=rep90_name
    Edit service for rep90_name and change it to run as local administrator user you created on both servers and then start the service.

  • How to set up a virtual directory on Application Server

    The environment of my application is Application server 9i version 2, on windows 2000, form 9.0.2.
    I am trying to get the ORACLE 9i forms show_document to work.
    I have successfully created an out file in the server directory.
    I need the document to be displayed by the form.
    Let me tell you more about my server.
    I installed Oracle application server on drive E.
    I copied my application to drive E and named PY which has 4 folders including :
    E:\PY\fmb (for fmb)
    E:\PY\forms (for fmx)
    E:\PY\sql (for sql programs)
    E:\PY\locrep (for lst files which are generated from sql programs)
    Someone told me I should create a virtual directory, e.g. docs, in your httpd.conf file to point to e:\py\locrep
    I've seen 4 httpd.conf files so I don't know which one I should modify and what should I type in exactly on what part ????
    E:\ora9ias\apache\apache\conf\httpd.conf
    E:\ora9ias\apache\apache\conf\httpd.conf.default
    E:\ora9ias\apache\apache\conf\httpd.conf.smibak
    E:\ora9ias\dcm\config\plugins\apache\httpd.conf
    After I modify the httpd.conf file, so what will my URL be ? Also, I have a lot of reports, I would like to run different reports at the same time ??????
    Thank you very much.
    Trang

    The best way to edit httpd.conf is using Enterprise Manager Website. Open this site (http://machine:1810) and drill down on your application server, and then on HTTP Server. Open link Advanced server Properties. Now you see a list of all configuration files. Click on a file to open it.
    To add the virtual path:
    - You could best add your virtual path in file forms90.conf (it is included in httpd.conf with the <include> tag).
    - Within this file you already find some virtual path definitions: Look for the AliasMatch tag, e.g. for the 'forms90/html' virtual directory.
    - Copy this line and change 'html' into the directory name you like to use, e.g. 'myfiles'. Map it to the physical directory (on your E: drive) where your files are. (E: must not be a network drive, however).
    - browse to your files using: http://machine:7777/forms90/myfiles/filename.

  • How can we access the file/directory system in the server

    Hi friends,
    I have made a text editor attached with an audio player for my project.
    Both text editor and audio player are implemented in applet and put in to a
    jsp page using jsp:plugin. Text editor and player are separate applets running
    in the same page and from same server.A client who is using this editor may
    want to save the edited text files to the server as well as hear audio files from
    directories in the server.
    My question is how can we access the file/directory system in the server
    like we do in the local machine.When the user cliks save or openfromserver button
    in the editor, folder/files in the server must be displayed as we do with FileChooser.
    I am using Apache Tomcat 5,wiindows 2000 server, jdk1.5.
    manu

    You can't access it directly. But your applet can make net connections to the server, and the server can provide that kind of functionality. Generally this is easiest by making HTTP connections and having the server provide the functionality via the web server. (So in your case, JSPs or servlets on the server would list/deliver/create/modify/delete files, and the applets would invoke those JSPs and servlets.

  • How do I create a Public Group on the Calendar Server?

    How do I create a Public Group on the Calendar Server?
    <P>
    Anyone can create Private Groups or Member Only Groups. You must be given
    administrative rights to create Public Groups on the Calendar Server. The
    Calendar Server Admin (SYSOP) can give anyone rights to create Public Groups by
    using the uniadmrights tool.
    <P>
    Go to /users/unison/bin/
    and run the uniadmrights
    tool. Some sample syntax:
    <P>
    To list all users with administrative rights:<P>
    % uniadmrights -ls -host yourhostname
    <P>
    To give John Smith, a user on node 10000, rights to administer Public Groups:<P>
    % uniadmrights -e "S=Smith/G=John" -add -pgrp -n 10000
    <P>
    In Calendar Server 4.0, you also have the option of using the Admin Server GUI
    to assign Administrative
    rights (instead of using the command-line method) by going to User Management,
    Administration Rights.
    <P>
    With the proper administrative rights, log into the Calendar Client. Go to Options,
    Manage Groups to create a new group. Choose PUBLIC from the dropdown window,
    add your users and/or resources and click OK to create the Public Group which
    can be seen by all users on the local Calendar Server.

    Re: Configure DNS - OS X Server Next Steps
    Feb 13, 2011 6:36 AM (in response to Jimbooooooo)
    You're setting up internal DNS services, you referenced your ISP DNS servers and you should not have, and now those servers have no translations for your hosts. This is a common misconfiguration.
    See [configuring DNS on Mac OS X Server|http://labs.hoffmanlabs.com/node/1436] for how to set up your internal DNS server.
    And if there are any references to your ISP DNS servers here (within your client settings, within your server settings, your Airport settings, etc), then you're usually going to have DNS and connectivity problems. You're running a server now, so you'll be running your own services, and (particularly because of NAT here) referencing only your own DNS server(s).
    You may be setting up external DNS (if and when you need that), but that should happen after you set up your internal DNS. The above article has a link to setting up external DNS, when you get around to that, if/when you need in-bound connections into your LAN.
