How do I create an administrator account?

Recently my macbook started acting up so I sent it to the school computer people. They fixed and gave it back. Now whenever I try and download an application or software, it asks for an administrator username and password. Nothing works. I checked the accounts in system preferences. Both accounts are standard. The computer people say I need an administrator account.
anyone know how to do this?

The article Kappy linked to is for 10.5. While it may also work for 10.4, this is a safer procedure: I lost my admin user (Mac OS X 10.4 and earlier), since it doesn't require you to enable the root account.

Thanks... I appreciate the reply. Since I wrote the previous email, I actually went and changed my apple id (the main id) and the documentation I looked at said iCloud will set mail up automatically(?)... I had it working before.
Also, I tried to manually set up the ID via the Mail Accounts screen(s) and I can't figure out what my server information is... Pop or Imap? What's the outgoing server and the incoming server?
I typically have never had problems setting up mail accounts (in apple mail) with no problem.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Are you sure the message isn't saying that the maximum number of accounts have already been created? When you get this message you will not be able to create another account on that device. Your only options are to either re-use one of the accounts previously created or create a new account using a different iOS device or Mac, if you have one.
