How do I create an email account on my new macbook pro?

Do you have an email ISP or an online email account such as GMail? Before you can create a Mail account on the computer you need to have the information provided by your email ISP to enter into the email application: your email address, .e.g., [email protected]; your email provider's SMTP server address, .e.g., smtp.server.com; the POP or IMAP mail server address, e.g., mail.server.com. You will also need your username and password for accessing your mail account.
In many cases whoever provides your email service will have a help page showing you what to do to configure Mail on the Mac.

    What is meant by mailbox structures? For example: On my powerbook, I have 2 unread messages in one of my IMAP email accounts. I read both messages. I choose to move message A to a client mailbox that I created in the OSX Mail APPL and the other message B I leave as read in the inbox & respond with a sent email . Now I use the .mac sync app on the powerbook. Then I use the .mac sync app on my imac . . . . will the application not sync the same information/sorting/organizing/sent responces into the appropriate mailboxes? I'm so confused.
    Also, what "mailboxes behavior" & "advanced" preferences should be checked with IMAP email accounts. All sorts of misc. mailboxes keep being created in the OSX Mail APP. when choosing different preferences. When selecting store on server (mailboxes created indicate: stored locally on computer). Again very confused.

    The benefit of using an IMAP is keeping server stored messages synchronized when accessing the account with an email client such as the Mail.app on different Macs.
    Messages in the Inbox mailbox for an IMAP type account are stored on the server by default which cannot be turned off.
    With an IMAP type account, you can also store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server which is available under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences.
    If you want to keep Sent messages synchronized with Mail on both Macs, you need to select "Store sent messages on the server" under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for the account preferences in Mail on both Macs.

    I'm so confused.
    Was this client mailbox created as an "On My Mac" location mailbox? If so, an "On My Mac" location mailbox is stored locally on the hard drive, not on the server so messages moved to such a mailbox will not be kept synchronized with Mail on both Macs. Transferring a message from the account's Inbox mailbox or from any server stored mailbox to an "On My Mac" location mailbox stores the transferred message locally on the hard drive and removes the message from the server at the same time.
    When creating a mailbox, the default location is "On My Mac" which is stored locally on the hard drive. If you are accessing an IMAP type account, you can select the IMAP account via the location selection which will create the mailbox on the server and be available in Mail on the other Mac. Messages placed in a server stored mailbox will be kept synchronized with Mail on both Macs.

    It is no longer possible to create @me.com mail addresses.  However, you can create an icloud.com mail address.  If you have an iPhone (3GS or upwards), iPad or iPod Touch (third generation upwards), go to settings/iCloud (if you are logged in, log out) and select the create an AppleID option in the bottom of the screen, you can create an AppleID without an existing email address (and thus, create an iCloud AppleID) there. 
    With a Mac computer, it will require either Lion or Mountain Lion (10.7.5 or 10.8.2, in other words, it needs to have iCloud) and you can create iCloud from the system preferences menu in much the same way.

    How do I change the email account for icloud on my iphone6 only.  I don't want to change my ipad or my husband's iphone6.  Currently all 3 devices have the same gmail account associated with them.  I have created a new & separate apple id and I want that on my phone but I can't figure out how to delete his email from my phone.

    To change iCloud accounts you have to go to Settings>iCloud, sign out, then sign back in with your other ID to create your new account.  If you want to migrate a copy of the iCloud data to the new account, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save Image.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out, choose Keep on My iPhone and provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone when prompted.  Then sign back in with your new Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload the data to your new account.  Once you are on a separate account you can go to iCloud.com and delete your husband's data from your account (and he can do the same with yours).
    Just be aware that the current @icloud.com email address cannot be moved to the new account, nor can the current my photo stream album (which is why you need to save any my photo stream photos you want to keep to your iPhone before signing out of the existing account).

    Thanks...  I appreciate the reply.  Since I wrote the previous email, I actually went and changed my apple id (the main id) and the documentation I looked at said iCloud will set mail up automatically(?)...  I had it working before. 
    Also, I tried to manually set up the ID via the Mail Accounts screen(s) and I can't figure out what my server information is...  Pop or Imap?  What's the outgoing server and the incoming server?
    I typically have never had problems setting up mail accounts (in apple mail) with no problem.
    Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    All I need is ONE INBOX (like Windows Mail used to do) ...
    I can see in the 'Account' column of each message which email account it's using.
    Then, I either junk or read the message, followed by delete or file to one of my created folders.
    As it is, half my page is depth is taken up by 12 lines of Account names !!!

    That still leaves SIX lines of Account names down the side. All I want is ONE INBOX ... (I can see which account each message belongs to in the 'Account' column...)

    Sign in with your Apple ID in System Preferences>iCloud and check Mail in the checklist there. You will be asked to create an @icloud.com address. You can't make this address your Apple ID.

    Website forms require some code in a snippet and a formmail.php script on the server to process the form and send the info to the required email address. You can do all this when you switch to a "real" server.
    In the meantime you can use a form  or marketing service or, better still, an application like MailShoot which generates the form, handles the database and sends out the bulk emails.

My thinking was I would set up the email and confirm everything is working and then show the client how to reset the password. Now it I can not get the BC admin panle to send an invite email yo me. Please advise. Client is passed mad on this. I have to resolve this issue.

    When I try to set up the [email protected] email account in the BC admin panle it repeatedly continues to change the password recovery email to [email protected] no matter how I set it up. This doesn't make any sense.  We can get into that account to even set a user password.

    Are you giving it away temporarily or permanently?
    If temporarily, you could delete the email account or remove the account's saved password and uncheck the account's enable this account option.
    If permanently, you should create a new user account for the new owner, then delete your user account. You may also have to reinstall the version of OSX that was originally licensed to the Mac and remove any applicable applications that are not transferable.

    I created a signature on my laptop.  Included a png in it. 
    Sent an email with that signature to myself on my iPhone. I did not put a message in the body.
    Opened it up on iPhone. Selected entire 'body'.  Copied all.
    Went into Settings, Signatures, Selected a different email account, pasted in what I had copied.
    And it worked.
