How do I create high quality stills from iMovie?

I know how to use the Create Still feature in order to create a photo in iMovie, however the resulting jpeg appeared too grainy when imported into Photoshop. It seems that the jpeg that iMove creates is too small (in terms of kb) to be of any use. Is there a way for iMovie to create larger, higher quality still photos? Or is there another way to go about this? Thanks

No.
video is highly compressed, much higher than any still or graphics.
e.g. a 'FullHD'-cam fits 108.000 'stills' (=1h video) of 1920x1080 pixel into 4-8GB ... make the math your own

  • Can I export a high quality DVD from iMovie?

Please help.  I am making a short experimental film which will show in a gallery in a few weeks.  I need the final product to be as high quality as possible.  It will be projected on a big screen before an audience.  Can I make a high quality DVD from iMovie?  I have iMovie 08 and would like to upgrade it to iMovie 11 to get the most features.  But I don't want to do a lot of work then find out I can't exhibit the final project properly.  I have been reading about iMovie for days on this forum, but I can't get a handle on exactly what is the difference between all the versions.  What do you suggest?

I should mention that my movie is made up entirely of still photos with lots of transitions, jump cuts, etc.  I don't know if that makes a difference.

  • How can I get a higher quality export from Imovie - QT & iDVD came out bad

The playback on my imovie came out corrupted but it transferred ok to Quick Time and I also burned a DVD but the quality is not very good. Any suggestions on how to get a better version. Please keep in mind that the imovie file is huge - 29Gig and the QT file compressed it down to 350Megs. The whole movie is running around 43 minutes. Any suggesstions are appreciated.

sorry, dogma, but you compressed your project by a
factor of 1:100, and complain quality... ? did you
use a preset of iM, or did you select any "Expert
    Options"?
and hopefully, you didn't try to use that crunched
    file for usage in iDVD??
store/save you project in your Movies Folder, launch
iDVD, select from the media bin your project - done.
last questions: is your project set as "mpeg4" or
"dv/NTSC"; did you import from miniDV (what iM is
made for...) or did you use any.. other formats?
    happy holidays
Hi - Yep I did use the crunched version for the dvd and have tossed it. I am now transferring a new version from imovie to QT under the pre set of high quality. Since this is the first time I have done a movie I am not sure what settings I would use under expert options - suggestions? I would love to tranfer the imovie right to idvd but at the moment I only have 8G left on my Mac so this would likely be a problem. The movie was exported from a mini DV.

  • High quality stills from timeline

What is the best output method to export a still from the timeline?
    Footage: 720PN 24p

export a tiff or photoshop-- never a jpeg. The best a still will appear as in a photo program is 72 dpi. There isn't a lot you can do to up-rez it except halve or quarter the size, thereby doubling the dpi. You can print beautiful postage stamps from video however.

  • How do i create high res pdf from psd file?

    Hi all,
I've been searching endlessly for this answer however I cant get the answer. My commercial printer is requesting a high resolution pdf file, and i created my artwork in photoshop 2. Can anyone tell me how to create a high res pdf with this file? Someone told me I need to purchase acrobat 9, however from research I've conducted there are no tutorials to achieve this either, and $500 is a little steep for a waste of time

What do you mean by "Photoshop 2"?  Are you referring to Photoshop CS2?
If Photoshop CS2, then you have been given the proper instructions.
If the option shown is unavailable to you, then your Photoshop installation is scrogged.  Reinstall it.

  • High Quality Still Exports from Mini DV Source

I am trying to export the highest quality stills possible from MiniDV tape. I am using the control+click technique to get stills that show up in the finder but the quality is not very high. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to iMovie Discussions.
Because miniDV is meant for videos ..pictures which move and change before your eyes have time to hunt for fine detail.. there isn't a great deal of detail in still miniDV frames.
In American (NTSC) video, the quality's roughly equivalent to a still photo 640x480 pixels ..i.e; about one third of a megapixel. (European PAL video has a slightly higher resolution, more like 720x480, but still pretty low.)
So you'll never get high quality stills from miniDV video; sorry ..the detail just isn't there to start with!

  • How to extract a still from iMovie to create a jpg

I'm trying to extract a still from iMovie to create a jpg. I've been able to make a freeze frame, but now I want to export it into iPhoto as a jpg? How?

I suggest that you use a free app called MPEG Streamclip.

  • Trying to get a high quality still image

    Hi,
I am trying to get a high quality still image from a 16mm film I completed years ago. I have had it transfered to digital format and brought it in to Final Cut Pro Studio 2. The distributor (Canyon Cinema) wants a high resolution image for the website. 600-dpi or better. When I create a still it comes out 72. How can I increase the resolution of the image for distribution on their website? Thanks to anyone who get guide me to the 21st century...

DPI is essentially meaningless in the video world. DPI is a measurement for the print world only.
But since video resolution equates roughly to 72 DPI, that's the best you'll get. Best to go back to the original film and pull a still from there.
Or you could try one of those resolution enhancing plugins for Photoshop like Genuine Fractals.

It is not possible to burn a high-quality audio CD in any version of iTunes.
iTunes burning is designed for quick, convenient burns directly from a playlist.
iTunes does not do the proper volume normalization or silence suppression that is required for a high-quality finished product.
If you are striving for quality, you can consider dedicated burning programs such as Toast, Nero, or Roxio.

  • Exporting high quality still images?

Is it possible to export a high quality still image from video? I have used the export using qt conversion, exported it as a photoshop document and when I bring that doc into photoshop the image quality is poor at 300 dpi. It comes in at 10 inches X 6.67 inches at 72 dpi, but when I make it 300 dpi the image size is only 2.4 inches by 1.6 (this, of course, is when I turn off "resample image")
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

Is it possible to export a high quality still image from video?< </div>
Yes and no. it is no better than your video camera shot it. Generally, for conventional DV, that's roughly 500x800 pixels at a shutter speed of 1/30th second. HD formats and special frame rates, of course, produce other still images.
    720x486 at 72 DPI.< </div>
I beg to quibble, or at least to be a pedant. The 72dpi is an artificial construct imposed by Photoshop. There is no dpi or lpi in video. You only get the raw pixels. You can make the pixels bigger by scaling up or you can throw some away by scaling down but, without additional work like resampling or applying a tool like Genuine Fractals, you cannot get any more pixels.

  • How do I creat a filliable form from a scan document?

How do I create a fillable form from a scan word document using Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?

    Hi melaniev10032955,
You might need to follow these steps to convert word into fillable PDF form:
    Open the scanned word document
    Click File> Print> Adobe PDF
A PDF file would be created that would automatically open in Acrobat XI pro
At this point, you would have a basic PDF file which still needs to get converted into fillable form
Choose "Tools> Text Recognition> In this File" to run OCR to make your scanned doc searchable.
Now, go to "Tools> Forms> Create"
Acrobat will ask some questions. On the first screen, make sure 'Use an existing file' is selected and then click Next.
On the next screen, 'Use the current document' must be selected.
You might need to edit few fields manually. Then, just click Preview button on the top and check how you PDF form appears.
Try this out and let me know if you face any problem.
    Regards,
    Anubha

I guess that depends on how you define "high quality," eh?
But seriously, in blind listening tests the vast majority of people can not tell the difference between AAC @ 256 Kbps and a CD. So it can be argued that the tracks available on the iTunes Store are, at least, CD quality. And since the tracks Apple gets to sell are coming directly from the master recordings it could also be argued they are, in some cases, better than CD quality.
Just because a digital audio track is lossless does not automatically make it "high quality." At least, not to me.

  • How can I create an audio CD from the audio only portion of my iMovie?

Hello, I brought in about 50 min of Digital video into iMovie, I separated (split) the audio from the video, I unlocked the audio, I deleted the video, and now I want to just create an audio CD from the audio that is left.
Can I do this? and if yes how? If I can not, how can I create an Audio CD from on my G5 off a tape on my digital camcorder?
    Any help would be apprecaited.

    This is how:
    Go to:
    'File'
    'Share'
    'Quicktime'
    'Expert Settings'
'Audio as AIFF' or pick your brand of compression.
Drag and drop the resulting file into iTunes.
    Enjoy!
P.S. - You didn't need to delete the video but I think that'll be okay.
