How do I create to do in mail.app in Lion OS X

I am new to Mac itself and bought Lion OS X. How do you create a "to do" in mail.app. when I read some user posts, I got to understand that right click on the message gives you a "to do" option. however I do not see it.

That feature was taken away with Lion.  It was in 10.6 (Snow Leopard):

To Do Items: Forget manually adding a new item to your To Do list every time an email hits your inbox. Use To Dos by simply highlighting text in an email, then clicking the To Do button to create a To Do from a message. Include a due date, set an alarm, or assign priorities. Every To Do includes a link to the original email or note, and To Do automatically appear in iCal, complete with any changes you make. And since To Dos are stored with your email (when using an IMAP mail service like MobileMe), you can access them from Mail on any Mac.

  • How to get greater log detail from Mail.app in Lion (slow attachment caching)

I have an IMAP account, hosted by FuseMail, that is taking an extraordinary amount of time to catch attachments. I would say it is taking upwards of 10 minutes to cache one attachment. This is causing a side-effect in mail that it keeps spawning new threads for "Fetching new mail" which eventually makes Mail.app thread-bound and it stops responding (see image below of an example of what happened over night when I wasn't there to kill the treads).
I would like to see a more detailed trascript of the connection with this IMAP server to see if the delay is with the server or with my client. However, I have been unable to capture what I'd like to see:
If I use the Connection Doctor, turn off all other accounts and look at "Show Detail", I can see some log entries for READS and WRITES (FETCH and PEEK) but it's still difficult to see what's happening between those steps:

I just can't see enough to figure out if the problem is on my end or the FuseMail end. I have been looking around trying to figure out how to increase the debug level without much luck.
I found this about the sqlite3 db but the Envelope file is not in the same place anymore:
    http://www.macworld.com/article/56673/2007/03/mailfix.html
I also played around with the defaults but could not find anything specific to the connection/transfer/caching protocols:
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=2004101603285984
I also tried the "Turn on Logging" Mail script:
    http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/ss/Troubleshooting-Apple-Mail-Using-Apple- Mails-Troubleshooting-Tools_3.htm
but if it is turning anything on in the Console, I can't see it.
    Any suggestons?

I have the same problem, some photos are not loaded completely and partly grey. This occurs only in Mail.app but not in the web interface of the email provider. Did you find a solution, Florian? Does somebody else have a suggestion?

    Hullo,
how can I create a new E-mail address for the Marketing Manager (i.e. marketing professional role in SAP CRM) please.
That when you go and create a new E-mail campaign you need to choose an E-mail form in addition to the E-mail address of the Marketing Manager.
    Kind Regards.

    Hi Alhussien

  • How do I create a file in mail

How do I create folders in the mail box?

If you are on iOS 5 and it's an IMAP type account then you should get an Edit button at the top of the list of folders that you currently have on your email account. If it's a POP type account or if you are still on iOS 4 then you won't get the Edit button.

How do you create new maps in Mail on iPad?
In the iPad-manual they mention you can put messages in other mailboxes or maps (to free up the Inbox).
But they don't mention how to create such maps.
In the app itself I can't find a way to do it.
    thanks for all replies

Maybe you are confused by the fact I used the word 'maps' instead of 'folders' (my natural Ianguage is Dutch).
For your question about the manual: on page 59 in the 'iPad 2 user guide' under 'organizing Email' they say you can move messages to a different mailbox or folder.

How do I create new folders in mail on IPad and IPhone for saving emails?

You can't do it on the iPad you would need to do it on your computer and the folder will be seen by your account on the iPad and iPhone only if they are IMAP and Exchange accounts. POP accounts are not supported for folders.

How do I set up hotmail in mail app to not mark every message it syncs to be new? (as in if if I check my mail on the browser and I have a new message.. and I read it.. but then open my mail app it syncs that email but says its new and unread)Here are my setting... what do I change?

What do you mean it does on your iPhone?
If you download a new email to your computer and read that mail and then download it to the iPhone it sees it as already read? Then maybe the iPhone is using the Hotmail IMAP system? Not sure.

  • Can't create folders with IMAP/Mail.App!

Can anyone offer any insights? I'm unable to create subfolders on my iphone/IMAP account.
I'm using an AOL IMAP account. When I go to Mailbox Behaviors on my iPhone, I'm unable to select anything other than "On My iphone." On the AOL account, I can create a folder--no problem--but my Mail.app program doesn't ever see it. Then, when I try to create a folder in Mail.app, I get an error message: "Imap command "create" failed. The server error encountered was: CREATE failed: Can't create outside of saved."
Emails in the inbox are working fine, synching between iphone and Mail--but, sent, drafts, and deleted emails aren't synched, and I can't create subfolders.
    Any ideas?

on your iphone you might need to go into settings > mail then choose the imap account and tap on the advanced button at the bottom. Near the bottom of this screen you can set the imap path prefix.
    Hope this helps.

using Office 365 - how to close sub folders in iPhone-mail app.

Isn't HotMail still POP3 mail only (i.e. no IMAP support)?  If that is still the case, then your device is working correctly.  The folders you made are a feature of the web tool for hotmail, and are not part of the POP3 supported email protocol.  Only IMAP mail supports on-server mail subfolders, and those can be accessed from the iPhone mail client.  But POP3 is limited to the inbox solely, as that is literally the only folder that sits on the mail server (your others are on Microsofts web server and supported via the web mail tool).

  • Printed Text is Small with Mail.app in Lion

Has anyone been able to adjust the font size of the PRINT in Mail while using Lion? I swear I feel stupid, but I can't seem to adjust this all.
I have to print out an email and the text is soooo small. It's like 3pt. Adjusting the message view font in prefs doesn't change a thing, nor does changing the print options like "Scale to Fit", "Rewrap Message to Fit", "Keep the Same Apparent Font Size", etc.
I have the conversation view selected, but I opened a single email as well, and it ALWAYS prints like 3pt making the text unreadable.
I finally had to forward the email to gmail and print from gmail. Sad.
Any ideas on how to adjust the PRINT font size only?

Yes, I tried this as well.
If I increase the scale to let's say 400%, it does increase the font size, but makes the text no longer appdear on one page. It will change the flow of the text so that half a sentence on the right is cut off, and the remaining text is on the next page.
In other words, it doesn't work.
Just in case this helps, I'm printing to a HP 4240n, but I don't think that would be it.
Even saving to a PDF in the print dialog causes the same issue.
Does anyone print emails from Mail.app in Lion? Am I the only one?

  • Delayed email delivery using mail app in Lion

I'm having issues with delayed email delivery using the mail app in Lion. Specifically I have an IMAP account (AOL) that is working fine on other macs running snow leopard and on both an iPhone and an iPad. I receive an email that shows up on all other devices but does not get delivered on the Macbook Air. Clicking get new messages does not delivery the email, even if other emails have been delivered in the interim. The only way to get the email to show up is to exit Mail and restart it - and then the email shows up, in the correct date/time order and the correct read status (since I had already read it on another device).
This has happened twice now with my AOL account in the past 24 hours (I've only had the new Macbook Air since Monday). It might also be happening on my other IMAP email accounts but I have not noticed it yet. It's intermittant as I've received many other emails correctly and ontime.
Anyone else seeing something similar? I've never seen this with earlier versions of Mac OS X or on devices running iOS.
This is a Macbook Air running Lion 10.7.1. I have 4 IMAP accounts set up. Mail is set to check for email once a minute and I have my IMAP accounts set to use the IDLE command.

I have the same problem, some photos are not loaded completely and partly grey. This occurs only in Mail.app but not in the web interface of the email provider. Did you find a solution, Florian? Does somebody else have a suggestion?

  • Can I reinstall Mail.app on Lion 10.7?

After trying to import my mail from Snow Leopard, my Mail.app in Lion 10.7 has become unresponsive – I can't open a Message Viewer Window, nor can I open preferences to make changes to my accounts.
I'd like to reinstall Mail, but can't find a way to do this. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

    Hello,
I had the same problem this morning. After ugrading to 10.7.4 Mail.app could not import the messages, and hence, never started.
The failure message stated "The import failed. An error occurred during the import. Make sure you have available space in your home folder and try again." There was no other option button but "Quit." So I quited, checked, and confirmed there were 414.19 GB available; and I used Finder and System Report for this purpose. Afterwards I tried again. The failure persisted.
Ironically I wan't able to neither read from Webmail, nor access Mail.app. So I confirmed with the Data Center the server's status. Everything was up and running. Still, they restarted the server for the sake of certainty. The problems persisted.
So I did as suggested here. And it worked smoothly.
Since I use IMAP on my settings I went for a fresh configuration with all my mail accounts. And it worked smoothly.
    Thanks William for the tip.
Thanks Shaun for marking the reply as the solution.
    Regards,
