How do I cut a quicktime movie into smaller pieces?

I have several downloaded clips that I want to work with in imovie. I have one in mpeg2 in particular. I have also exported it to a QT movie.
I have QT Pro, Mpg2 Component and Streamclip. I want to be able to work with smaller parts to avoid the non-destructive editing memory hog. Simple question, I hope.

My recommendation would be to open the file(s) in MPEG Streamclip, set approximate in/out points for each segment and convert each to DV/DVCPRO format. Clips can then be dropped/imported into iMovie and reassembled for final edits. (I assume there is audio you wish to preserver here.)

  • How can I cut/slice a photo into moveable pieces on the canvas?

My dad is a longtime fan of Robert Glasper, who recently released the album cover seen below - I've been trying to use compound paths and clipping masks to slice up his photo - but it leaves me without pieces that I can move.
Is there any way to create a similar effect as the image below? (photoshop or Illustrator)

Thank you for a rare interesting post.
I'd come at it from another direction.  Rather than move tiny bits around the screen using dozens of layers, just use two or three layers, and create the sections in the layer mask.
Open your master image and create a new layer.  Make a rectangular selection and fill with black. copy that layer, and offset as below, and merge the two layers
Drag a selection around the above rectangles, and with other layers turned off, Edit > Define pattern.  Turn this layer off.
Make a new layer and fill it with the above pattern.  Use Free Transform to make the pattern fit the screen nicely.  Turn this layer off
Turn your portrait layer on, > Ctrl (Cmd) click the pattern layer, and add layer mask to portrait layer.
Copy this layer, and invert the layer mask.
Unlink the layer mask, and make sure the layer icon is selected, and not the layer mask.
Offset this layer.  The portrait will move, but the layer mask should stay in the same place.
Repeat above steps experimenting with layer mask inverted, and not inverted.
The layers panel will look like this:
    And image like this
It took me longer to write this post than create the image above, so with time and thought, you can make something much better.  The point here is that it doesn't have to be a ton of work.
Good luck, and try and remember to show us what you make.

  • Quicktime movie into iMovie

How can I convert a quicktime movie into iMovie or somewhere I can burn it? I have lost my iMovie footage, but had saved it a couple years ago as a quicktime movie. I need to make my quicktime movie into a DVD.

You might find that Toast 6 (well now 7 but I use 6) is a good choice - I find at times when it chokes on MPEG-1 files, I convert them to QT using a lossless codec and then use the QT files to author a DVD. Great results.
I have even found that QT movies using the 3ivX codec or Sorenson , 1/2 hour in length yet only 500-600 MB turn out to look amazingly good in DVD format through Toast. Even though the comparable amount of DV or MPEG-2 as a source woudl be many times larger, so the QT codecs, the good ones do OK when transcoding.
So assuming your source is a decent codec it should look OK - author a disk image first then mount it and see how it plays and looks in the DVD player. Saves a DVD blank and some time initially.

  • How do I import a quicktime movie?

    Hi,
I think this is a super simple question, How do I import a
quicktime movie onto my page? I presume you go to
insert>media>? not to sure what comes next though? Is it
    shockwave,applet,active x or plugin?
    Thanks,
    Beth H

There's not a default insert behavior for this built into
    Dreamweaver, but a
quick search on the Exchange show that there is an extension
    for this,
although I've not used it. Do a search for "quicktime" here:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?view=sn120#loc=en_us&view=sn105&viewName=E xchange%20Search
Make sure you set the program dropdown to Dreamweaver to
    minimize the number
of hits. Should be the second one on the list: "Insert a
    QuickTime Movie,
    V1.0.1".
Hope this works for you. There is some additional information
    about the
extension on the detail page that you might want to look at
    to ensure
    everything works properly.
    Best regards,
    Chris

  • Hi. Please can anyone show me how to install a flash document / movie into a powerpoint presentation so that the animation plays within the powerpoint? Thanks

Hi. Please can anyone show me how to install a flash document / movie into a powerpoint presentation so that the animation plays within the powerpoint? Thanks

wouldn't it make more sense that a flashtard is someone who
just generally sucks at flash and asks idiotic questions?
anyway, so i pretty much got the banner done - but i'm stuck
on one problem. I made a motion clip of a heart, and i want the
heart to fall from top to bottom, following a squiggly motion
guide, and to rotate 1/4 turn on the way. I got it as far as
following the motion guide, but when i try to select the instance
in the first frame and rotate it, shouldn't the motion tween make
it appear to slowly rotate, rather than stay put then rotate 1/4
turn at the last frame? When I select the clip and play around with
alpha and stuff, that works fine. What the heck?

  • Can't import Quicktime .mov into iMovie 10

Is it possible to import a Quicktime movie into iMovie 10?  I used to be able to do this with iMovie 9 but cannot get it to work with 10.  I can drag it into an event but no clips show up.   I can't believe that Apple would require a 3rd party product to get this to work.
As a separate rant, you used to be able to edit clips directly in Quicktime but Apple removed this functionality a while back; ie. deleting parts of clips rather than just trimming from the ends.  It is getting tougher and tougher to do basic editing even if you stay within the Apple ecosystem...

.mov can contain a variety of different movie formats not all of which are importable into iMovie 10.  Try playing it in Quicktime player 10 - does it say it has to convert?   If it converts it, the resultant file should import into iMovie 10 OK.  see: OS X Mavericks: Some files may be converted when opened in QuickTime Player - Apple Support
In Quicktime 10 the way to do this is to split a movie into clips and trim each clip as required.  These can then be imported into iMovie and joined as part of a project.  See:  QuickTime Player 10.x: Rearrange your movie’s content
Quicktime 7 Pro (which does allow removing 'middle' parts of a movie) still works in Yosemite

  • Help Please ::: Quicktime .mov into iDVD 5 playback or encode problem issue

Originally Imageready files burned into Quicktime. Importing Quicktime .mov into iDVD results in project which looked great in preview, but after burning images were elongated, flattened. I am stumped, especially given preview results would indicate no such problems but unsure where to analyze on the DVD burn end to check. Any tips on what/where to check? Have tried re-importing original ImageReady (Photoshop) files into new Quicktime .mov (original project was done on OS 9 fyi). But no change in results.. any help greatly appreciated.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Thank you for the feedback. I wasn't privy to the process that converted these files originally but suspected the theory on compression/codec initially used.. may re-convert. Also will try Disk Imaging... seems that this is not an uncommon problem in the iDVD 5 world...

How to import a Video Media movie into a iMovie HD?

The iMovie help lists the types of movie files you can import.
I usually have to use Quick Time Pro (not free) to convert what I have to a format iMovie will accept.
Or I use VLC video player (free).

  • Importing a powerpoint/quicktime movie into imovie

can someone tell me what i am doing wrong: when i import a powerpoint/quicktime movie into imovie the background goes orange... and i cannot get it to go white again... help! please!

Thanks for the link. We still had a the problem, but we found a woork around. It seem that if the power point has any sound in it then it only imports the sound. So we took all the sound out and then it imported fine. Then we put the sound back in and imported that so that then we had the sound effects. Any way it works! Thanks!

  • Having trouble getting Quicktime movies into iMovie

Hi everyone. I'm on an iBook with OS 10.3.9 and I'm working with Quicktime 7.0.3 and iMovie 4.0.1. I've been making a student film, and I've been trying to drag or import Quicktime movies into iMovie to edit and use. However, when I attempt to do so, it doesn't work and I get a message that reads, "Can't open file (insert file name here); skipping it and continuing." Is there any way to fix this problem without having to get Quicktime Pro? Thanks.
    Brian

Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure the files are indeed mpegs. I tried out the program you sent, and it worked for the first clip when I converted it into DV. For some reason, when I tried importing the next two mpeg movies, I got a message that said, "The DV File (insert name here) is the wrong video standard and cannot be imported into this project." Any reason why that should be happening? Thank you very much for your first reply.

  • How do you cut an imovie clip into two clips?

How do you cut an imovie clip into two clips?  I have a very long clip from which I want to remove the middle (and keep the beginnin and end).

There are several ways to do this. Here are a couple.
    1) Drag the long clip into your project. Drag to select the portion you want to remove. Then right-click/Split Clip. This will give you three clips, the first, the last, and the one in the middle that you want to delete. You can select the middle clip and right-click/Delete Selection.
    2) Drag the long clip into your project. Drag to select the frames you want to delete. Then right-click/Delete Selection.
