How do I cut out a part of a video file?

I just want to trim off 20 min. of my video that I don't want at all at the end of my movie then burn it to DVD? Please help I'm new at this. Thanks

When I use the lasso tool to carve out a figure and paste it in some other application I get the the figure I cut embedded in a white box. How do I just cut and paste only the figure?

System clipboards can be finicky, to say the least.
Also which operating system and application do you want to paste into?
The following may help:
1. With your selection active around your object, right click inside the selection.
    In the menu choose New Layer via Copy. (makes a new layer with just your
    selected object)
2. Right click on the new layer in the layers pallete and choose Duplicate Layer.
    In the dialog box, where it says document choose new from the drop down menu.
    You can name it or not. Click ok.
3. A new document should be created with just that layer.
4. Depending on how big the document is, you could use the Rectangle Marque Tool
   (M on the keyboard) and draw a selection box around your object and then go to
   Image>Crop, then Select>Deselect.
5. Save your image as a PNG file. File>Save As and choose png from the drop down.
    It should say File must be saved as copy, thats fine.
6. Open or insert your png into the application of choice.

Now I tried to delete only one part of this file. For example all persons with the name"cocoon".
I used for this target the following statement:

When I execute this statement, Oracle DB delete all users and not only with the name "Cocoon".
How can I delete only one part of my xml file?

This the expected behavoir. You uploaded a document containing multiple users and then asked XML DB to delete any documnet that contained a user with the name in question. The problem here is that you are creating a mega document that contains an aggregation of user documents but then trying to work with individual user documents. This is a bad idea.
In general XML does not understand the concept of a collection of documents. It can only operate on one document at a time. Hence the tendancy to aggregate individual documents into a single larger document. Once you have an XML database, you can perform operations on collections of document, as easily as you can perform operations on individual documents, so the need to aggregate the individual documents together disappears.
If you store each user document as a seperate document then your delete will work as expected.

You have to make a selection. The tool many use is the quick selection tool. Then click refine edege box in tool bar to adjust. Then use ctrl C to copy and ctrl V to paste.

You can use iTunes to remove the beginning or end of a song (or both) by setting the Start and Stop times.
But to remove a section from the middle and keep the rest, you will need an audio editor such as Audacity.

In PremierePro stnadlaone, you might be able to do it with some sort of matte:
Try out three keying effects | Adobe Premiere Pro CC tutorials
and then use the masking and tracking controls to key out pixels as needed and then track them through the shot

There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate. You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
