Howdo I deactivate Imessage and Ichat on a dead 4s?  Recently waithced to Samsing and not getting messages from iphone contacts

    Hi,
In theory an iPhone that appears to the Server as Off Line will be "de-registered" from the server.
Twice at various iOS Upgrades I have had the iPhone Number become greyed out leaving only the Apple ID is use (Despite the fact th item is greyed out and unchangeable by the user.
This should mean that the iPhone should present as not in service and the sender should "Switch" to sending SMS.
However as the Mac version may still have the iPhone number in it's Send and Receive lists then the iPhone may appear to be still logged in.
You can "disable" the iPhone number in the iMessages account (Messages > Preferences > Accounts).
Unticking the Receive At will also  remove it form the Start Conversation From drop down.
It can be removed by deleting the com.apple.ids.service.com.apple.madrid.plist in Mavericks and above as this holds the current Apple ID and any "Aliases" in use.  You will need to re-enter your Apple ID in Messages on the Mac if you do this.
Ultimately contacting Apple Support is the simplest and best way although some of the above may be needed to "tidy up" afterwards.

  • How to TOTALLY deactivate iMessage

I'm a huge Apple fan and I'm as big an iPhone fan.  What I'm not is an iMessage fan.  How can I completely disable iMessage on my Mac...and I mean TOTALLY disable it.  Currently, every time I get a text message from my wife it goes to iMessage and NOT to my phone, which is not the behavior I want.  I don't want little blue text message bubbles on my iPhone, I want green ones (true text messages).  This used to work just fine, but all of a sudden reverted to receiving iMessages when she sends me a text and vice versa. Further, why does there have to be a tie between my mobile number and iMessage to begin with? What I do on my phone should have nothing to do with what I do on my Mac.

Just sign out of iMessage in Messages. Go to Messages - Preferences - Accounts, and delete any "iMessage" accounts you see there.
You can delete the other accounts if you never want to use Messages.
The tie between phone number and iCloud account is optional. A lot of people like it. You can turn it off.

  • Need to deactivate iMessage on stolen phone

How can I deactivate iMessaging on stolen iPhone?

Th following quote is from If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch is lost or stolen and it recommends changing your Apple ID password to proven use of iMessage:
if Find My iPhone isn't enabled on your missing device
If you didn't turn on Find My iPhone before your device was lost or stolen, you can't use it to locate your device. However, you can use these steps to help protect your data:
Change your Apple ID password. By changing your Apple ID password you can prevent anyone from accessing your iCloud data or using other services (such as iMessage or iTunes) from your missing device.
Change the passwords for other internet accounts on your device. This could include email accounts, Facebook, or Twitter.
Report your lost or stolen device to local law enforcement. Law enforcement might request the serial number of your device. Find your serial number:
On the original box or receipt
On My Support Profile (supportprofile.apple.com) if you registered your device with your Apple ID
Report your lost or stolen device to your wireless carrier. Your carrier can disable the account, preventing phone calls, texts, and data use.
If you want to use another device and your messages are not being received because of iMessage, the following recommends contacting Apple Support: Can’t receive text messages on a non-Apple phone

  • Iphone screen broke. Doesn't even light up. changed phone, but i still get iMessages on iphone and not on my new phone. How can i deactivate totally my iphone to receive the old iMessages on my blackberry?

High people! My iphone screen recently broke, and it doesn't even light up. The whole thing still works, so i get vibrations, calls ecc.. i changed to a blackberry, but now i don't get texts from people that wrote to me with imessage, because imessages still go to my iphone. What can i do?

    Deactivate iMessage:  http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5185
FYI, starting a new conversation thread has never forced iMessage off... it simply does not work.
If your new iPhone has iMessage activated and is using the same phone number as the old iPhone, iMessages should be going to the new phone.

  • I want to give my old iPhone 4 to my grandson to use like an iPod Touch. Wifi only. How do I deactivate my info..so he can buy his own apps. and not have the cloud pushing all of my data to the old phone?

I want to give my old iPhone 4 to my grandson to use like an iPod Touch. Wifi only. How do I deactivate my info..so he can buy his own apps. and not have the cloud pushing all of my data to my old phone?
Just turning off Cloud will not prevent him from turning it back on.
Rignt now, if he uses the App store, iTunes thinks it's talking to me.

First, turn off iMessage, FaceTime & delete the iCloud account, while your sim is still in the phone. Then: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. Give it to your grandson & he gat then set it up as he wants.
Important your turn iMessage & FaceTime off to disassociate the phone from your Apple ID. Apple "claims" to have fixed this with iOS 6.0, but until I can absolutely confirm such, I still recommend you turn all of that stuff off first.

  • Can't deactivate iMessage after switching phones?

I bought an Android phone tonight, replacing my iPhone.  I also ported my number to the new phone.  However, now, anytime someone with an iPhone tries to SMS me, their phone automatically sends it as an iMessage, which I can't receive, since I no longer use my iPhone.  How do I deactivate my phone number with iMessage so that I can start receiving text messages from my iOS-using friends again?

That is the answer, CNet's reporting on this is very confusing. Many servcies now attach the service to a hardware device or an app that runs on the device. (Twitter, Google Voice, iTunes, Google Dual Auth all be examples.
With certain services such as iMessage, Google's Voice, Google two phase authentication you link the device with the service. Even in Twitter you allow certain Applications which are device specific Access to your account. Users have to and are expected to based on when they sign up for these services to manage the access.
So now would be a good time for any users reading this to review all te authorized devices and applications for various services they use day to day. You may want to visit the vendors or providers site to find out how to do this.
    Itunes: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1420
This not being a Google or Andriod fourm you may want to search the Web for answer on how to manage many of the services on that platform, call Google Support, your provider support or there store.
iMessage service has to be managed and if you change devices you need to act accordingly and change device.
CNet reporting it as a bug is strange. You need to manage your accounts, the services and the hardware authorized to access and use services.

  • How to stop getting iMessages.

My macbook is school owned by South Doyle High, and they blocked iMessage. I have recently upgraded my phone to a galaxy S4 from an iphone and now when someone else with an iphone sends me a text it sends as an imessage to my macbook. How do I change this? It's really on my nerves.

    Hey alycatalways,
Thanks for the question. I understand you wish to deactivate iMessage. The following resource may help:
    iOS: Deactivating iMessage
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5185
Additionally, the following article outlines how to unlink a phone number:
iOS and OS X: Link your phone number and Apple ID for use with FaceTime and iMessage
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5538
How to unlink a phone number
To remove a phone number from an Apple ID, sign out of FaceTime and Messages on your iPhone. Sign out in the following locations:
    - Settings > Messages > Send & Receive. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
    - Settings > FaceTime. Tap your Apple ID, then tap Sign Out.
This should remove your phone number from other devices using the same Apple ID with FaceTime and Messages.
If the phone number is still available on other devices after you sign out of FaceTime and iMessage on the iPhone, you may need to sign out of iMessage and FaceTime on all your devices, then sign in to FaceTime and Messages again on devices you want to use.
Note: If you no longer have access to the iPhone that is using the number you want to remove, reset your Apple ID password.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
