How do I deactivate PS CS3 under Leopard?

We bought a Mac Pro but are keeping the old iMac around for light work. I need to deactivate Photoshop CS3 on the iMac so I can activate my license on the Mac Pro. Unfortunately, under Leopard the Photoshop help menu has been replaced with Leopard's help menu so the deactivate option is not where Adobe says it should be. How do I go about deactivating my Photoshop license?

Mark, unless you need to install a copy on a laptop, you are allowed activation on two computers.
This is from adobe's site:
"The activation process supports installation on two machines. The Adobe product license agreement allows the primary user to install the product on a primary computer and also on a home or laptop computer for his or her use, provided that the two copies are not used simultaneously. While the activation process supports installing and activating Adobe software on two machines, the usage of the product on the second computer is restricted to the user who licensed the software. Allowing others to use a second copy of the software violates the product license agreement."
http://www.adobe.com/products/activation/
I keep a copy on a second computer, a laptop, in case I need to work on a project whilst backing up or updating software.

    Not a requirement…
I know it's not an Adobe requirement, but there can be and are nefarious consequences if you don't.
Don't ever underestimate the blunders and incompetence of the Adobe installer/uninstaller team.  Photoshop engineers and program managers have publicly shown their contempt for the members of said team and, privately, at least some have expressed a desire to wring their necks.  A former principal program manager called the installers and uninstallers "a huge embarrassment to us."
Therefore, I repeat:  if you wanted to uninstall CS3, you should have done it BEFORE installing CS5.

  • How to deactivate Illustrator CS3?

How do I deactivate Illustrator CS3?
I've just upgraded to the CS3 suite and am having problems with Illustrator, it crashes whenever I try to Place anything onto a page, and it will not accept the update to 13.0.2.
    I want to reinstall it.

It sounds more like a permissions problem or lack om RAM or lack of space on your hardisk, or damaged font, than a need to reinstall. Reinstalling very seldom cures this kind of problem. And as part of the Site you cannot deactivate just Illsutrator, only the entire suite.
If you do not have the choice to deactivate you probably have a multi-user license. Those do not have de-activation.
First of all you need to be an admin user to be able to install/reinstall/deinstall (CS3 has deinstallers - look in the Applications/Utilities/Adobe installers folder).
You also need to have full read & write permissions to the Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Adobe folder and all folders that are in it.
You also need to have full read & write permissions to your users/username/Library/
You might need to delete preferences for Illustrator, inside the user/username/library/preferences folder you find a folder called Adobe Illustrator CS3 Settings. Delete the entire folder PLUS the file called com.adobe.illustrator.plist also in user/username/library/preferences folder.
    Start with that.

Activation Version 2.1, included with retail versions of CS3 (but not with volume license products), contains a feature that allows you to deactivate your product after you have installed and activated it.

  • DVDSP run under Leopard?

    Hi!
I've been combing eBay for a copy of FCS or FCS2 and been researching how DVDSP 3 or 4 runs under Leopard before I purchase.  Unfortunately I see a lot of folks that have had issues running DVDSP 3 or 4 (FCS or FCS 2) under Leopard.
Essentially, I am currently running 10.5.8 on a G5 1.8 DP and I am looking for a version of DVDSP that will run under this so I don't have to use a dual boot system just to burn DVDs.  Is there a version of DVDSP that will run under this configuration, or do I have to buy an Intel Mac?
Additionally, if I do buy an Intel Mac, can I get  away with a MacBook to run DVDSP and FCP and save the heavy lifting of Motion and/or Color for a desktop?
    Thanks!

I don't have any significant experience with Leopard other than on a Mac Pro, but I've had full FCS2 installs running on 2.5GHz G5 dualies (Tiger) since it was released and have both FCS2 and FCS3 running on Snow Leopard flawlessly.
Apple says you need an Intel processor to run FCS3, but the Get Info for FCP7 says the code is universal and therefore it may run on a G5. Irrespective of that, DVDSP4 should run fine on your G5.
As for what you can "get away with" on a MacBook, you may find that the lack of firewire on recent MacBooks a problem. Additionally, I'm not sure about the video support. The MacBook Pro is a better choice, but more expensive. You may want to look into a used Mac Pro as an alternative.

Erase the drive or partition it was installed to, and then install it on the desired computer. There is no authentication or activation required for the client version of Mac OS X 10.6; Apple uses the honor system for it.

  • How can I 'deactivate' Leopard so I can start as a 'new' computer.

I have currently installed Leopard on my Macbook Pro.
I've had the Macbook Pro about a year and a half now, and the hard-drive space is just disappearing it seems.
I have Leopard Family Pack, and I want to completely just 'start-over' my computer and install Leopard, like a fresh start. The only data I REALLY need is all iTunes media, etc. I can get that all on my external HD no problem.
I want to just start over and get back the 120gb that disappeared.
My main question is, how do I 'deactivate Leopard' (and iLife 08') so that when I reinstall it, it doesnt install as a fourth computer, but rather replaces an old license.
And as far as things such as my iPhone go, when I reinstall everything, will the iPhone act normally, or is this a tedious thing that will have to be completely re-set up with my computer?
    Thanks.
    Nick

    Nick,
What Windows refers to as a "clean install", Apple refers to as an "Erase and Install." You can type "Erase and Install" in the search discussions 'window' and you'll get lots of hits. Or you can go to this page, and search for "erase and install" from the support site:
    http://www.apple.com/support/
If you decide you want to do an Erase and Install, after you reboot from your install disk, one of the three options is "erase and install." It will start you over clean on your computer. All your data/files will be gone also, so you might want to consider doing a backup of any files you desire to keep.
If your whole reason for doing an erase and install is trying to recover that 120 Gb of lost HD space, it might be worth a little of your time to try to figure out where the space actually went.
There is a useful utility (free) called WhatSize, that will list all the contents of your HD and sort that list by size. It may be able to show you where your HD space has gone (perhaps an invisible file, or maybe you have been doing some video editing, and there is a huge cache file sitting on your HD somewhere). WhatSize can be found here:
    http://www.id-design.com/software/index.php
If WhatSize doesn't locate your missing space, there are a couple of commands in Terminal that can be used to see if a Volume you're not aware of, might have been created on your HD (this could eat up a lot of space). If you want to visit that option let me know.

  • Problems with ViaVoice under Leopard, especially key mapping problems

ViaVoice's behavior has changed considerably under Leopard. First I will discuss the key mapping problem, since I'm eagerly looking for an answer to this problem. At the end of this post, I will voice some of the other problems I've experienced for those who may be interested. The key mapping problem may be specific to the fact that I use a foreign keyboard with a US version of ViaVoice.
    INTRO:
I have used ViaVoice on my Mac for years, more or less without problems (ViaVoice's bugginess is notorious).
Those who know ViaVoice will know that one has two general options for dictation. One can dictate into ViaVoice's so-called SpeakPad, which allows special formatting, editing and dictation error correction within the dictated text, or one can dictate into "external" software such as Microsoft Word, in which case ViaVoice just sends a string of characters to that software. SpeakPad appears to make strong use of the operating system's built-in functionality for character formatting, document formatting, etc.
    *MY PROBLEM*
I have a German keyboard on my PowerBook, yet dictate in US English. When I dictated into SpeakPad under Tiger, all characters appeared correctly. However, when I dictated into Microsoft Word using Tiger, I had to switch the keyboard mapping from German to US to get all characters (that means including the characters that are located at different positions on a German keyboard than they are on a US keyboard such as y, z, apostrophes and parentheses) to appear correctly.
Under Leopard, things have changed. Now it doesn't matter whether I dictate into SpeakPad or Word; the results are the same and many characters do not appear correctly.
If set to a German keyboard, y and z appear as expected. To name a few irregularities:
    "(" appears as ")"
    ")" appears as "="
    apostrophes appear as "#" and
    ";" appears as ","
If set to a US keyboard, y and z are interchanged. "(" and ")" appear as expected. Apostrophes appear as "\" and ";" appears as ","
By comparison, if typed (as opposed to dictated, as in the examples above) "correctly" (i.e. based on the letters printed on the keyboard) on a German keyboard set to imitate a US keyboard:
    y and z are interchanged
    apostrophes appear as "|"
    "(" appears as "*"
    ")" appears as "(" and
";" appears as the symbol for "less than"
Since I don't have a US keyboard, I can't say how it would behave if set to imitate a German keyboard, i.e. if there's a correlation to the results I get when I dictate.
Since I was previously able to dictate correctly into SpeakPad by setting the keyboard to "German" and into Word by setting the keyboard to "US," I presume that this is a problem in Leopard, not ViaVoice.
*OTHER PROBLEMS WITH VIAVOICE UNDER LEOPARD*
In addition to the aforementioned key mapping problems (that may be specific to those of us with foreign keyboards), ViaVoice appears to have lost considerable functionality in Leopard. I cannot access SpeakPad's Preferences and the correction window. Moreover, the traffic-light like window buttons have disappeared from the VoiceCenter (although they work if you click where they should be). SetupAssistent appears to function.
I've written to Nuance about these problems, but have little hope that they will invest the time in producing a patch since they haven't released any updates since 2003.

    Thrums1,
I've never had to "register" ViaVoice after updating the system. I thus suspect you haven't fully followed my above, three-step advice (particularly step 3).
    1) Reinstall ViaVoice from CD.
    2) Update to the latest version (using the patch downloadable from Nuance's website).
    3) Replace the “temp” and “users” folders (in the "ViaVoice" folder at the upper level of your home directory) by a previous copy thereof. When I say previous copy, I mean a copy from when ViaVoice was still working properly, e.g. a copy from when it was running under Tiger.
As I said, I've gotten ViaVoice to survive several system updates by following the above steps. To my knowledge, the last step is critical since it saves you from having to reconfigure ViaVoice under the new operating system (in this case Leopard). I suspect that ViaVoice is crashing on your system because it's trying to start some module of the SetUpAssistant that is incompatible with Leopard (as many are). If you instead use old copies of the "temp" and "users" folders (from the previous system), then ViaVoice doesn't have to go through the initial "registration" process; ViaVoice doesn't need the SetUpAssistant; and all is (more or less) fine.
    Good luck!
BTW, to my knowledge, Dictate only runs on Intel Macs. It thus won't run on a G4 iBook, just as it won't run on my PowerBook G4.

  • Workaround to import video in FCP 6.0.5 under Leopard

On behalf of a FCP user under Leopard with FCP 6.0.5 I would like to ask you how to import video from a Panasonic camcorder using some strange format. The workaround now is to import it on another machine under Snow Leopard with iMovie, export it as one .mov 'for computer use' and import it in FCP 6.0.5 on the Leopard machine. The video from the camcorder does not play under Leopard, probably because of the QT version 7.6.6.
The Panasonic camcorder has an SD card with video which is recognised as a Camera Archive. It has folders with a name like PRG001 containing files like MOV001.MOD and MOV001.MOI and PRG001.PGI.
Possibly there is some plugin, extention or other workaround?
It is currently too expensive to upgrade FCP 6.0.5 to the latest version, although the 2006 MacBook Pro with Intel might be able to run it. I was advised not to upgrade to Snow Leopard without upgrading FCP, because it will cause all kinds of trouble.

Although I would still need to buy the "QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component for Mac OS X" to work with it, right? At least that is what MPEG Streamclip suggests when I try to open the MOVxxx.MOD files with it.
