How do I deal with "StartUpItems if2k" has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings?
Whenever I turn on or restart my MBP, a dialog box appears saying --> “/Library/StartupItems/if2k” has not been started because it does not have the proper security settings.
How can I fix this?
First, I searched online and found a site with a If2k_Remover_V2.zip file, but whenever I try to open the link, a page comes up saying,
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /w/files/if2k/If2k_Remover_V2.zip on this server.
Any thoughts on this?
Also, I see the if2k folder in the Library/StartUpItems; is it something I can just drag into the Trash? Or would that be a bad move?
Did you ever figure this out? I just upgraded to Lion on my Air and I have the same issue.

I do not know what any of these do or how to fix them. I have run multiple disk permission repairs & disk repairs. The startup & system extension errors continue to come up.
I even followed the directions to move HP IO & HP Trap Monitor to the trash, run disk permissions repair, put back in folder, then restart - and still am getting error message. -

Enable Finder to Show Invisible Files and Folders
Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder. At the prompt enter or paste the following command line then press RETURN.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder
To turn off the display of invisible files and folders enter or paste the following command line and press RETURN.
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder
Alternatively you can use one of the numerous third-party utilities such as TinkerTool or ShowHideInvisibleFiles - VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
First, make invisible files visible. Find the invisible file in that folder and remove it. Please be sure you are looking in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder. There is another one in the /Home/Library/ folder. Be sure you look in the right one. -

Thanks!Uninstall any Intego junk according to its instructions and ensure that all its components have been completely eradicated from your Mac. You may need to download Intego's installer so that you can run its uninstaller.
Intego will make your Mac run very poorly, unacceptably so. Never install such junk on a Mac. -

I recently upgraded my OS from 10.4.11 to 10.6.8, so that I could download iTunes to my new iPhone 5. After upgrading to 10.6.8, I received error message about my Symantec Norton anti-virus security, so I upgraded that to security that's compatible with 10.6.8. Now I receive the error message above, about my Start-Up Items folder. There are currently no items in the folder. How do I get rid of the error message above? Thanks for any help.

Resolution:
To prevent the "Insecure Startup Items folder detected" message from appearing
Open Disk Utility from /Applications/Utilities.
Select the name of the volume where Mac OS X is installed (default name is "Macintosh HD").
Click the Repair Disk Permissions button.
After permissions repair is complete, restart Mac OS X and verify that the message no longer appears.

Just been on holiday and one of our party lost his iPhone 4s.He didn't set it up on iCloud.He has it set to vibrate and it goes straight into voice mail. Does anyone know if there is a way of locating it without iCloud/MobileMe?

Why I get the notification:

after starting up,
when I have no items in that folder?
Removing the folder (as admin) and restart, automatically recreates the folder, (which is fine) but I get the same message about security.
Why,? or rsther how can I make it go away?Tiger's startupItems folder requires permissions that are different from Panther.
Is your computer maintained by anyone other than you? people at work? Something like FileWave, which we use, or Rsync could be changing files in there on you. If it's your own personal computer then it's probably not that.
It's also possible that an installed program may change permissions on an item in that folder to be something other than what Tiger uses. What items are in your /Library/StartupItems/ folder? -

I would merge them before the migration. Also, spend some time doing any batch changes of names and dates beforehand too.
iPhoto Library Manager has good merge and duplicate search facilities.

Has anyone experienced problems with Mackeeper? I did not complete downloading this software. Yet, occasionally when on the internet, I will have the MacKeeper multi-colored circle replace my pointer. How do you deal with this?

I purchased new computers twice within the same year because they were damaged in a storm. However, I can't deauthorize/reauthorize the new computers because it has been less than a year. How do I deal with this situation?
