How do I copy final cut express from my computer onto a laptop?

You don't.  Several of the system level components won't be installed properly if you copy or 'migrate' to a new computer.  You'll need to install from the original install discs.

  • HT201109 Why can't I open a final cut project from one computer in another computer?

I'm using Final Cut Pro Trial. Why can't I open a final cut project from one computer in another computer? When I try to open the project on my desktop it doesn't recognize the format. Please help!

I downloaded FCPX trial on my laptop as well as on my desktop. I did some editing on my laptop but I need to get the project I created on my laptop onto my desktop. When I import the project onto my desktop the videos are Red and they say "Missing File."

  • How do I move Final Cut Projects from internal to external?

When moving a Project from my internal drive to an external I find that in User > Movies > Final Cut Projects the files still exist despite being moved in Final Cut Pro X.
Again, all I'm looking to do is move ALL files from my internal SSD to an external RAID volume. Any ideas on how I can successfully do this?
I've read the FCPX User Manual and the forum questions, but none address why project and event files unsuccessfully transfer. : (
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello Tom,
I moved the Project Files by command dragging inside of final cut pro X to the RAID volume.
That didn't move any of the project files however, so I then manually moved them into the RAID volume and then relinked them.
Now I'm left with this 65GB render files folder, which I assume loads the project data faster than if i did not have the render files. That's great but I'd like to be able to move them to the RAID volume without (needlessly) regenerating the files... what do you think?

  • How do I Upgrade Final Cut Pro from 10.0.6?

Do I upgrade Final Cut Pro 10.0.6 from iTunes or though the App Store?  Or both?  It will not work now that Yosemite 10.10.1 is installed.
    Thanks.
    -Mike.

    BTW:
There are MAJOR changes using the newer version.
    Do some research before proceeding.
    See here for an overview:
    FCP X Library Updating
The tutorial speaks about Mavericks but Yosemite has the same rules.

  • How do I take Final Cut Pro off one computer and move it to a new one?

I'm using Final Cut Pro Academic, and I can only run the program on one computer. If I'm getting a new computer, how do I move the program from my old computer to my new computer? Is there a way to "deauthorize" my old computer? If there is, I can't seem to find it.
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Doug

Excellent! Do I need to do anything to ensure the the program installs on the new computer? Do I need to make sure the computer is connected to the Internet when I uninstall the program from the old computer?

  • How do I stop Final Cut Pro 10.1 from  introducing artifacts?

How do I stop Final Cut Pro 10.1 from introducing artifacts?
Can someone please tell me what do do differently so that my edited video does not develop artifacts that were not in the original camera file.  My Sony HDR CX900 produces crazy detailed XAVC S video that FCPX seems to import with no problem but FCPX is introducing artifacts: some on import and more on share. The artifact in the examples below appears above and below the horizontal rope line on this model boat. Please look closely. It doesn't look to bad here, but it dances on my screen. Also, the video generally degrades much more than I would have hoped. How can I get more professional results?  Sorry for the long post, but more information now might save time and questions.
Below is a portion of a frame opened in quicktime directly from camera's card.
Below is the associated Inspector for above frame
Here is the same after it is imported into FCPX. Optimized and Proxy Media were created, but FCPX seems to select what to play so I can't tell you which one is shown here.
Here is the associated Inspector capture from FCPX.
Here is the same frame once again after it is Shared as ProRes 422. Note the horizontal lines above and below the rope lines on this model yacht.
Here is Inspector for the above file.
Here is the same once again after it is Shared as H.264 Better Quality.
I tried converting to Proress with 5Dto RGB and Brorsoft Video Converter. They both went though the process, but introduced similar artifacts.

When I right click on the clip in the browser and select Transcode Media, the dialog box opens, Optimize Media is checked, but OK is greyed out. Transcode is not an option. I think this points to the fact that FCPX is doesn't need to transcode XAVC-S or FCPX can't transcode XAVC-S. This is a new Sony codec produced by the new HDR CX900. The codec is HD at 50Mbps.
    Tom Wolsky,
I selected Optimized Media in the viewer and both the timeline and exports (422 and H.264) look great.
The 24 second long exported video jumps a couple of times as if skipping a frame, as it plays. Could this be related to 29.97 instead of 30fps?
Thank you so much for getting the image right. Now if I can just eliminate those couple of small jumps.

How can I open Final Cut Express project in Final Cut Pro X?

If you export the project from FCE you can import the QuickTime into FCP. You can do limited work to it like adding titles.

  • Trouble restoring final cut pro from time machine

I cant install registered version of final cut pro from time machine after system restore.  It asks for serial number, but I dont have it. How do I find it?

I don't use time machine, but my understanding is that needing to re-authorize the software with the serial numbers when you do a restore from time machine is the way time machine works.

  • How Can I transfer Final Cut Pro X to another computer

How can I transfer Final Cut Pro X to another computer without connecting the two

As Kappy said, download it from the App Store - this will give you a brand new copy. However unlikely, it's just possible you might be copying a corrupt version from the original computer.
In the App Store, make certain you use the same Apple ID that the App was purchased with.

How do you import final cut pro projects into imovie?
(like you create a project in final cut but i want to save it, and import it into imovie..

    Hi -
Mr. Ross is right, there is no direct way to export your project with all it's elements into iMovie.
If, on the other hand, you have a completed sequence in FCP that you want to export as a finished element, then import into iMovie for you to re-edit or apply titles, music, etc. you would:
    In FCP:
Click on the Sequence Icon you want to export in your browser.
Go to the menu File > Export > Quicktime Movie. Give your movie a name a navigate to where you want it stored. Make sure you choose Settings: Current Settings and have the Make Movie Self Contained checked. Click Save.
    Close FCP and open iMovie.
    In iMovie:
Go to the menu File > Import > Movies and navigate to the movie you just exported from FCP. Choose if you want your movie imported in it's original size, etc.
Click Import. Your movie will be imported into iMovie.
Note that using this method only gives you only the elements that made up your FCP sequence, so this may not give you the flexibility you need.
    Hope this helps.

How to upgrade my Final Cut Pro 6 to X?

There is no upgrade to FCPX, you have to buy it for $299.99. Yes, Russ is right, FCPX is very different than previous versions, I realized that I would have to start from scratch with it. Look up free tutorials online, there are a few good ones. If you try and just jump in, you'll get very frustrated very fast. Take the time to learn it before you try any important projects. • How can I move Final Cut Pro folders?

    Hey guys!
I'm trying to figure out how to move the "Final Cut Backups", "Final Cut Pro", and "Motion Templates" folders out of my Movies folder. I keep a bunch of my own movies in that folder, and having those 3 in there becomes an inconvenience.
I've tried to move all my Final Cut Pro media over to an external and when I load videos I want to edit from there, Final Cut Pro still makes folders in my Movies folder instead of my external.
I want Final Cut Pro to set all destinations to my external. Making my external the main place it stores and saves all files/folders.
Even if there isn't any "Change destination" option within Final Cut Pro, could this be done through Terminal in any way?
I am currently using Final Cut Pro X (10.1.2)
    Thank you so much!

You can move them in the Finder. I wouldn't move Motion Templates, however.
Where FCP stores the other files can be set in the Inspector.
