How do I deauthorize iTunes on a dead PC?

Hi,
My old Gateway recently crashed. I was able to move my iTunes library to a new PC, but when I try to authorize the new computer it tells me that I am at my max of 5.
Is there any way to manage the de-authorization process from a new PC? I am fine if I had to de-authorize all 5 and start over.
Thanks
Terry

You can deauthorise all your computers from your store account. You can only do it once a year and when you have used up 5 authorisations.

  • How do I deauthorize iTunes?

More spacificaly, I have reformatted and reinstalled my OS so many times (more than 5 times) that I can no longer play music that I downloaded from the iTunes store. Apple only allows iTunes to be authorized on 5 computers. My question is how can I deauthorize iTunes on non-existant computers?
    Cheers

You can't deauthorise a 'dead' installation on it's own. However if you've reached the limit of 5 authorisations you have the option once a year to deauthorise them all in one go and start over: About iTunes Music Store Authorisation and Deauthorisation

I have given a laptop to my grandson without deauthorizing itunes. How can I deauthorize itunes on that computer without being in possision of it?

You cannot, nor do you need to until you reach the limit of 5.  Then you can deauthorize all and authorize only the machines you choose.

  • How do I move iTunes from a dead computer?

My iTunes currently resides on a dead computer (hard drive failure). How do I move iTunes to my laptop PC (Vista) without losing all of my music/videos (on iPod) or apps (iPhone)?

Don't think you can get anything from your Dead computer.
Sync is only oneway, from PC to your device.  Unless you have the same music on your new PC, iTunes is going to wipe out what you have on your device if you are syncing to a new library.
You can only transfer Purchased music over to Itunes on your PC.

As for you own music/videos, you may have to use a third party software.  A good Free one is called Sharepod which you can download from Download.com here:

  • How do I deauthorize itunes if I can't start itunes

I need to reinstall Windows 7 because of a corrupted user profile.  Right how I cannot start iTunes on this computer, so I can't deauthorize in the normal way.  Is there some way to deauthorize all of my devices online?  Is there some way Apple can do this for me if I contact them?  If so, where would I send that request.  Thanks.

Never mind.  I installed iTunes on another computer and have it handled from there.  Thanks.

  • How do I deauthorize iTunes on my old Mac?

    Hello,
My trusty old Macbook became my dead old Macbook recently. I recovered the hard drive and caddied it up to the spacestaion that is my new iMac and used data migration assistant to pull everything across. I authorised my new imac on itunes but have now realised I have a dead computer taking up one of my 5 accounts.
Is There some way to de-authorise it without... well, it?
If I caddy up the old drive to the new machine and boot to it then de-authorise there will that work to remove the old machine or just delete the new one again?
    Thanks,

you need to launch iTunes on the dead Mac in order to de-authorize that computer. if that is not possible, you need to wait until you reach the "5" authorizations. then you get the option to +de-authorize all+ (once a year).

About De-authorizing Computers (contributed by user John Galt)
You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. The only other option is to "de-authorize all" from your iTunes account.
    Open iTunes on a computer
From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Under "Computer Authorizations" select "De-authorize All".
Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only do this once per year.
After you "de-authorize all" your authorized computers, re-authorize each one as required.

  • How can I deauthorize iTunes on my PC that doesn't have iTunes installed (crashed with latest update)?

I'm retiring my old PC and want to deauthorize my purchased iTunes library (over 1,000 songs) but have a problem.  The last time I tried to update iTunes on the computer, the installation crashed and iTunes was removed.  My music is still there.  I just can't figure out how to deauthorize the computer without using iTunes.  I've tried reinstalling iTunes several times and always get "Error 7" with further instructions to try again.

You can de-authorize individual computers, but only by using those computers. Otherwise you can "deauthorize all" from your iTunes account.
    Open iTunes on a computer
From the Store menu, select "View my Account..."
Sign in with your Apple ID and password.
Under "Computer Authorizations" select "Deauthorize All".
Authorize each computer you still have, as you may require.
You may only use this feature once per year.
After you "deauthorize all" your authorized computers, authorize each one as required.

  • How can I deauthorize a computer that can no longer connect to the internet or is no longer working ?

How can I deauthorize Itunes on a computer that can no longer connect to the internet or is no longer working ?

You can't, which shouldn't be a problem unless you have 4 other computers authorized with the iTunes account and you need to authorize another.
Once you have authorized 5 computers, you can de-authorize all computere from a computer that is currently authorized followed re-authorizing the current active computers that need to be authorized.

  • How can I deauthorize an itunes account on a dead computer?

My old laptop died.  Before it did, I backed up all of my music to a zip drive and then transferred the music to my new Dell Windows 8 computer.  However, half of my songs can't be played because they were purchased on my stepdaughter's old itunes account.  I can't authorize my new computer because she apparently already had 5 computers authorized.  These computers are either dead or she no longer has access to them.  Help!  Is there anything I can do so I won't lose three years worth of music?

  • HT1329 I have a dead computer with itunes on it.  How do I deauthorize a dead computer?

How do you deauthorize a dead computer for itunes?  We only get 5 computers, and I need a new computer to be authorized for itunes.

If you've got 5 computers authorised for the account in question, and you need to free up authorizations, I'd do a "Deauthorize All" from one of the computers you have access to, and then reauthorize the computers you have access to.

My hard drive died. My IT guy reloaded stuff.  However I needed to authorize this drive to get it to work.  How do I deauthorize a dead drive????? It says I now have 5 authorized devices - but this computer is now counted twice - first old dead hard drive and now this new hard drive.  Thanks!

Deauthorize your computer twice, and then authorize it. If that doesn't work, use the Deauthorize All function.
