How do i delete a backup?  I deleted a large iPhoto library, but it didn't create any space as there is now a backup that is the same size.

I deleted a large iPhoto library from my hard drive to make space for an updated version.  When I emptied the trash and checked on memory, there was an equivalent sized backup, so I still can't download the new library.  How do i delete the backup from my hard drive?

You could be seeing the local Time Machine backup files.

  • Backup and Log that keep the same size

Hi guys, just a quick question...but once that I ran a backup, the log file should become zero or not? I mean, I ran a backup and before my log file ( I'm getting crazy with it) was 153 GB, after the backup is...153 GB...!?
    Any thoughts...

The select return NOTHING, the DBCCOPENTRAN(datawarehose) returns incorrect syntax, I shrinked the log file and now is Filesize 1.00, UsedSpace 0.29, FreeSpace 0.71, Perc 70.67
Now I ran a query before the backup and it took 6.01 min, after the backup it took 3.48 and after the shrink log 3.48 again.
It seems that the performance is improved but I need to test with select more incisive.
Query should be DBCC OPENTRAN(datawarehose) anyways as you said database is in simple recovery no need of full backup it would have no affect on Log shrinking. You can always shrink log when when query returns nothing it means nothing is holding back the
    query.
Most important thing dont shrink logs it would cause performance issue because when log grows spave has to be zeroed out first before information can be written which can take time and thus can delay query. You should preallocate log file enough space to
grow before hand instead of being reactive with shrink and then again grow.

  • When duplicating a field, even when the original field is locked, the duplicated fields appear at different positions on pages that are the same size. How do I make them uniform?

I'm trying to put a hidden time stamp field on the bottom of all pages of a thousand page document, yet when I duplicate the field, the reproduced fields appear at different positions on different pages. Is there a way to make them all appear uniformly on each page. I've tried using the Lock function in the Properties menu before duplicating but to no avail. Please help.

I go to Tools>Forms> Edit...Do you want to detect...No. Add New Field>Text Field. I lay out my field at the bottom of the page, adjust the Properties (Hidden but printable, read only, font, alignment), Lock the Properties. Then I right-click and hit Duplicate.

  • How do I place a photo in Illustrator from my iPhoto Library?

I am a graphic designer and I use Illustrator and Photoshop a lot. I don't use iPhoto for most of my photo editing but rather for the organizing it does with my photos in regard to me viewing them.
Since updating to iPhoto 08 the other day I am unable to get into my photos folder and place a photo in Illustrator or open a photo from Photoshop. (I have now figured out how to use Photoshop to edit...so that is not my real issue) Because of this new design to keep people out of the folder so they don't corrupt them, it also seems to keep me out from even placing a photo.
Other than physically making a copy of it and placing it into another folder how can I access these photos? I have tried dragging and dropping the photo from iPhoto to my Illustrator page, I get this message +"QuickTime™ and a TIFF (Uncompressed) decompressor are needed to see this picture."+
I can do a work around for Photoshop but what about Illustrator? Why can I not just place my photo?
I am sorry if this question is redundant to others being asked in regards to the "no easy access" to the main iPhoto Library but I didn't see any questions specifically asking about Illustrator.
    Thanks.

    Two things
1- When you go to Leopard the access is very easy and more direct
2 - for me I love the fact that I do NOT have to worry about having the latest version of the photo like I used to - now I export the photo (at worst - under Leopard I normally directly access the latest version) and know that it is the current version rather than looking at the original folder and the modified folder trying to remember the photo name (which makes exporting, using and deleting my preferred work flow under Tiger)

Are the playlists still on the iPod? If so I can probably cook up a script to read them back into iTunes, or you can check the features of the various tools listed at the end of this user tip to see if you can find one that you want to use.

  • How to make a backup of last week's iPhoto library from Time Machine

I'm sure this should be obvious to me, but rather than struggle for another hour I thought I would engage the brain trust here.
I'm using iPhoto 11 ver 9.4.2 and Mountain Lion 10.8.2 with MBP and Time Capsule.
Last week I added a zillion photos to my iPhoto library as I was combining the photos from several PC hard drives.  Of course this gave me a 135G iPhoto library and a million duplicates.  So over the holiday weekend I've been using PhotoSweeper (a truly fantastic product) to tune up the library into what I want it to be going forward.
But as I've been deleting all the duplicates, I've suddenly had the urge to save the original bloated library as sort of archaelogical record of every digital picture I ever had.  So I want to go back via Time Machine, find the library as it was last week, and save the library to an external drive.
It looks to me like I'm going to need to "Restore" the old library to access it via Time Machine.  And then export or save it to the archive hard drive.  Right?
But how will I get back to my new, carefully culled iPhoto library?  Will I just go back to Time Machine and "restore" the iPhoto library from today?
I don't want to make a big mistake here!
Also, why is my iPhoto library getting larger (now 150g) even though I have deleted (and emptied the iPhoto trash) thousands of photos?
Thanks for any help you can offer!

There  have been mixed reviews on Photosweeper - I have not personally used it and recommend one of two known programs for duplicate identification -
    Duplicate Annihalitor - http://brattoo.com/propaganda/ - or Decloner - http://www.pixelespressoapps.com/decloner/
The face that your library is getting larger not smaller indicates that something is amiss
As to TM questions for detailed answers the TM forum is best - basically you launch TM, go to the time you want, select the iPhoto library, click restore and when ask if you wnat to keep both say yes and place the newly restored library in the location of your choice

I have a few hundred duplicates in my iPhoto library, but the file sizes are different.  So one is 1.3mb and one is 567kb.  I want to delete the smaller ones, but short of comparing each duplicate, is there a way to do this?  I've been looking at Duplicate Annhilator but I don't think it can do it.
    Thanks!

I just ran a test with iPhoto Library Manager, Duplicate Annihilator, iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner, Duplifinder and Photodedupo.  I imported a folder of 5 photos into a test library 3 times, allowing iPhoto to import duplicates.  I then ran the 5 photos thru resizer to reduce their jpeg compression but all other aspects of the file the same.
None of the duplicate removal apps found set that was reduced in the file resizer. That's probably due to the fact that the file creation date was being used as a criteria and the resized photo would have a different file creation date even though the Image Capture date was the same.
They all found the 3 regular duplicates and some of them would mark two and leave the 3rd unmarked.  iPhoto Duplicate Cleaner can sort the found duplicates by file size but if the file was edited to get the reduced file size it might not be found as it would have a different file creation/modification date.
iPhoto Library Manage was able to find all duplicates and mark them as such if the file names were the same the the filename option was selected.  Otherwise it also missed the modified, resized version.  It allowed one to select the one photo to save before going to work on the library.
So if a photo has been reduced in image quality or pixel size it will not be considered a duplicate.

    Hi sdfulbright,
Open iTunes, and under View, select "Show Sidebar". The old sidebar you are used to will show up, and everything will work the way it did under the old iTunes.
    Hope this helps!

I would like to download / backup my entire iPhoto library, but want to do so in a manner where each event is saved as a distinct folder.  Can someone please advise if / how this is possible?

See Terence Devlin's User Tip on exporting from iPhoto:
                     Exporting From iPhoto  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
To write events to separate folders, use "File > Export" and select the subfolder format "Event Name". But that will only backup the photos and not your iPhoto library and all the work you invested in organising it.  For backing up, see:                    iPhoto and File Management

If you are saying that you both have iCloud accounts and use the same icloud ID, then yes, the contacts will be deleted.  The idea is that all devices using the same icloud ID are kept in sync.  You need to use different IDs.  You can keep the same iTunes ID so you can share the songs and apps.  But use different icloud IDs.

  • How can I export a project (a book) from one iPhoto library to another?

I have a photo book in an iPhoto library that was on a laptop.  I'd like to export it from that library and import it into my iPhoto library on my iMac.  Is there any way to do that?  Thanks!

    No
Books do not exist. They are just database entries. So you must move the entire database (the iPhoto library by default) to move a book. You can make a smaller database by duplicating the current one and deleting everything except the book and it's photos. You can make and save a PDF of a book

  • How do I remove migrated PPC apps from Intel iMac that has the same apps?

Before I begin, please know that I've read a lot of previous posts but all the posts only had some of what I needed so I'm posting this as a new topic. OK, here I go:
My PPC running 10.5 just froze-up (that has since been solved) but in the process of solving that issue, I migrated everything as a different user (User B) INCLUDING my applications, to my Intel iMac - my iMac that also had the same applications on it - except they were intel versions and they were under User A.
So I essentially did an archive and clean install on my PPC.
Then, using Migration Assistant, I transferred User B onto my PPC. Now both of my computers have duplicates of most of my applications. In trying to fix this issue, I found out I should NOT have transferred my applications. So now I'm very confused as to which apps I should remove off my PPC and which I should remove off my intel iMac.
If I just delete User B from my intel iMac, that's easy enough but will that remove the dupes? I have a funny feeling it doesn't.
And then, which do I remove from my PPC?
AND THEN, are there other things I will need to remove from different places on my computer?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
And now, I've used migration assistant to move everything from user (B) back to my PPC. Now I have duplicate applications with "(from old mac)"

Normally application go in the Applications folder at the top level of the hard drive, not in any user folders. If you have applications in user folders that are the same as those in the Applications folder, you can delete them from the user folders. If you actually migrated PPC applications into the Applications folder on an Intel Mac, it would have replaced the Intel versions. To fix that, you would have to reinstall OSX on the Intel Mac.
The same thing would apply on the PPC Mac.

  • How can two pictures of the same size still appear to be a different size? (Photoshop CS6 problem)

I called the big webdesign file "(X)" and the image I wanted to paste in it "(Y)",
so that you won't be confused when you read it.
    What Happened
For the design of a webpage, I made a photoshop-file(X) with a lot of squares(X). These squares(X) had the size 9,42×9,42 centimeters.
I measured the squares(X) carefully and also made sure the size was in centimeters, so I am sure that the size was 9,42×9,42 cm.
My plan was to fill the squares(X) with pictures(Y). I had a map on my computer with a lot of square-sized JPG-images(Y) in it. All I had
to do was open the pictures(Y) in photoshop, change the size into 9,42×9,42 centimeters and copy+paste them into the squares(X)
of the webdesign. I did this before and it worked perfectly.
But then, I opened one of the images(Y) and when I wanted to resize it, the resize-tool said it was only 3,25×3,25 centimeters big.
I thought it was strange, so I copied+pasted it into the design-file(X) with all the squares(X) that needed to be filled. Allthough photoshop
had told me that the squares(X) in the file were 9,42×9,42 centimeters big and the image(Y) I resized was 3,25×3,25, the "small" image(Y)
turned out to be bigger then the squares(X). And when I resized the "small" image(Y) into 9,42×9,42 centimeters, it was even bigger
than it was before. How can this be, and how can I still make the images(X&Y) the same size?
    What I already tried
    - I made the file of the webdesign(X) with all the squares(X) into one layer, copied the file(X) and opened a new file(X) with the same
measurements of the old file(X). I also changed the resolution of the file(X) into pixels/centimeters instead of pixels/inches.
Then I pasted the image(X) of the old file into the new file. I didn't work; the image(X) that I pasted in the new file was bigger and
when I pasted the other picture(Y) in this image, the same problem was still there.
    - I also opened the picture(Y) in photoshop, made a screenshot of it and then pasted the screenshot into paint. With paint I cropped
it again and saved it as a JPEG-file. After that, I opened the image (Y) in photoshop again. It now had the size of 11,27×11,27 centimeters.
Then I resized the image(Y) into 9,42×9,42 cm, but it still wasn't as big as the squares(X).
    Could you help me please?
I really don't understand why this problem is happening and I can't think of a solution because I am still quite unexperienced with photoshop
and I also couldn't find the answer on the internet. I assume the solution is very simple, but I haven't found it yet allthough I have to finish this
project soon and I also have to use the image(Y). So any help would be very appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Simone

You need to understand the basic of a digital image.
Image is recorded as pixels and image is a rectangle so many pixels wide and so many pixel high.   Pixels do not have a fixed size. The images resolution setting defines the image current pixel size.
So for example if you have and image that is 300 pixel wide and 200 pixels high and set its dip resolution to 100DPI the image size is 3" wide and 2" high.  Set its dip setting tp 300DPI the image size becomes 1" wide by 2/3" high.  Both the 3" x 2" and the 1"x2/3" images have the same 60000 RGB Colored Pixels.
Web pages are sized to to be so many pixel wide and so many pixel high.  Often the height is not enforced scrolling is used when viewing.
However image for web pages often must not exceed so many pixel wide and high for displays have a fixed resolution and a fixed number of Pixels. You want images to fit on users displays.  Users use different displays some have high resolution displays and other have low resolution displays with far fewer pixels then high resolution displays.
Web Image are normally image that have been interpolated down in number of pixels a resampled large image so that web image will fit on a low resolution  display with limited number of pixels. The image size the user see depend on the display they are currently using. A low resolution display's image will be much larger then the same image displayed on a nexus 10 with a 300dip display. Cheep low cost Desktop LCD have a 84DIP resolution, large high cost desktop displays are not be much higher in resolution somewhere near 108DPI.   Tablets, Laptop and Phones can have much higher resolution like the nexus 10 300DPI IPS display
