How do I delete a dismounted mailbox database........

I have a dismounted mailbox database on our Exchange 2010 SP1 that does not exist in the directory structure at all.  How do I delete it since it show a couple old user mailboxes that obviously aren't there since the database isn't on my hard drive?

a small correction,
Adsiedit.msc>>Configuration>>Services>>MicrosoftExchange>>FirstOrganization>>AdministrativeGroup>>Exchange AdministrativeGroup>>>Databases>>Right click on Dismounted Database Name and Click on Delete.
Özgür ÇEBİ
I really don't think that's a correct answer.
Find the users in the AD that have the mailbox database assigned to them and remove the mailbox:
"get-mailbox -database <database-name>" or just use the EMC to search for the mailboxes in that database.
Once the mailbox has been removed from those users you can use the UI to remove the database.
Using ADSI for simple tasks is just wrong.

How do you delete a VIP mailbox from the mail app?

    From Mail help:
    Make a sender a VIP
To keep track of messages you receive from especially important people, make them VIPs in Mail. You can have up to 100 VIPs.
To make someone a VIP, move the pointer to the left of the sender’s name in the message header and click the star that appears. You can also move the pointer over the sender’s email address, click the arrow that appears, and choose “Add to VIPs” from the pop-up menu.A mailbox for the VIP is added to the Favorites bar. For example, if you make Dad a VIP sender, his messages are displayed in a VIP mailbox titled Dad.
To remove VIP status from a sender, click the VIP’s star in a message. The star is removed and the sender’s VIP mailbox is removed from the Favorites bar.
If a VIP has several email addresses in Contacts, messages from any of those addresses will appear in the VIP’s mailbox.
If you use iCloud Contacts, your VIPs are available on your other Mac computers that use iCloud Contacts and have OS X Mountain Lion installed.
So to remove a VIP mailbox, you would have to remove all its people, and then exit mail.

you did not assigned any point to any one i guess... its not how we thanks to an answer on sdn community. (whether it had helped u solve ur problem or a concrete answer with not possible)
But i am pretty much sure you can restore from ur latest backup and you could get your table along with data. in case u are not still gatting it. then probably you need to restore DB strcuture first (i know in AIX OS you can make a copy of DB structure using MKSYS command ) which will create structure of database and then you can restore the same backup which we are talking about using restore procedure.

  • How do I delete hierarchy in mailboxes?

    People,
Just got a new iMac with Yosemite. I imported my mailboxes from my previous iMac (Leopard). Each of my mailboxes now has a hierarchy (i.e. mailbox name with an expansion arrow that when expanded shows another level with "messages" (see below)). I don't need or want the extra level. How do I get rid of the extra level and just show "Chip" as a mailbox?
    John

    Old Toad,
Okay, see if I did it right. There is a message with the subject: "next thoughts". I selected the "Albert Ros" mailbox folder and typed "next thoughts" into the search box at the top of Mail's window. I got two hits, one for the message I sent with that subject and a second one as a response (i.e. RE: first thoughts). I then selected the "messages" folder under "Albert Ros" and did the same search. Again I got the same two hits. Based on that, and the fact that I still have the "Albert Ros" mailbox on my old iMac as backup in case something went south, I deleted the "messages" folder under the "Albert Ros" mailbox folder. That seems to work, as the messages still exist in the "Albert Ros" mailbox, which is now just a plain folder with no hierarchy; just like I want.
I still don't understand why an import of my mailboxes from Mail under Leopard, (Mail 3.6), resulted in an extra level of indenture once they got into Mail under Yosemite (Mail 8.1). I can only guess that is is an artifact of an expanded feature of Mail 8.1. What expanded feature, I do not know.
So to resolve my issue, its looks like I will have to check each "redundantly indentured" mailbox to insure messages are indeed duplicated and then delete the "messages" folder under each. A helluva way to run a railroad, but okay, I give.
Thanks for your help. This certainly wasn't a major issue, like actually losing data, but it was one of those little annoying things that computer operating system/applications do to irritate the user. You've soothed my irritation :-)

  • How Can I Delete "Blocked Mail" mailbox?

Suddenly in Mail I have a mailbox for Blocked Mail. This is on my iMac where I am running Maverick.  I do not want to collect blocked mail; that's why I blocked it so I don't have to deal with it.  How can I get rid of this mailbox or how do I stop blocked mail from accumulating.  Thanks.

    Hi,
Just as what Amit suggested, if you want to remove the default public folder database for a mailbox database, you can clear the value of the msExchHomePublicMDB attribute.
Here is a related article for your reference.

  • Litigation Hold, Single Item Recovery, & Mailbox Database Deleted Items Retention

    Hello
I'm looking for a simple explanation of how the three features mentioned in the subject line interact and affect one another.
Specifically, I'm after the answer to the following question:
If a users mailbox has litigation hold enabled, and the mailbox database it lives on has a deleted items retention value of 365 days, does that users "Recoverable Items" get deleted after 365 days, or does litigation hold, as I supspect bypass the retention
    value?
If Single Item Recovery is enabled for said user as well, and added to the scenario above - how does this affect the retention of the deleted items?
I cannot find a definitive article that describes mailbox database deleted items retention, litigation hold and single item recovery and their behaviours when used together.
    Regards
    Matt
    Matt

    Hello again,
Just wanted to open this thread up again, and gain some further clarification, specifically on the behaviour of items in "Recoverable Items\ Deletions" folder.
In the following scenario how will items be processed:
    -SingleItemRecoveryEnabled -True
    -LitigationHoldEnabled - True
    -UseDatabaseRetentionDefaults -True
-Items in the Deletions folder have passed the retention value date as specified on the database.
Given the parameters above, when the I run the Managed Folder Assistant against a mailbox, I'm expecting to see the items in the Deletions folder move, and be placed in Purges folder.
This is not happening however, items are only removed from the Deletions folder when LitigationHold is disabled. Then, items bypass the Purges folder altogether and are removed from the mailbox/database altogether.
I referred to the article below for clarification:
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/09/25/3408389.aspx#_Short-Term_Preservation_of
"...the message was not purged from the mailbox store. Instead the message was moved from the Recoverable
Items\Deletions folder to the Recoverable Items\Purges folder. All store hard-deleted items end up in this folder when single item recovery is enabled. The Recoverable Items\Purges folder is not visible to the end user, meaning that they do not see data retained
in this folder in the Recover Deleted Items tool.
When the message deletion timestamp has exceeded the deleted item retention window, Records Management will purge the item."
Can anyone assist in explaining the behaviour I'm observing?
I'm in a transition period where by our organisation has been journalling all
email to an Online service since 2008 and this service will continue to be used solely as our archiving and compliance mechanism.
Since Exchange 2010 was adopted by the company around 18 months ago, the previous mail administrator had litigation hold enabled on all mailboxes
from the outset, so I'm in the position now where by I have two retention methods running side by side.
Long story short, the online archiving will be used moving forward and litigation hold will be disabled within Exchange.
What I want to do is transition from long term data
preservation inside Exchange, to short term preservation - hence the reason for now enabling SIR.
Currently I have mailboxes with 10's of GB's of mail sat in the "Recoverable Items\Deletions" folder, and very little, if anything in some
cases, in the respective "Purges" folder.....
Can anyone advise on a "correct" procedure for making this transition?
    Regards
    Matt

  • My dotMac mailboxes are duplicated - how can I delete the duplicates?

I see that problems rather like this have appeared in this forum but mine doesn't seem to be quite the same. I have two locations each with a Mac running Tiger (now 10.4.9) and I have a .mac account: I use Mac Mail as a mail client. One of my machines had an unrecoverable disk crash and the HD had to be replaced. I then reloaded Tiger and did all the updates etc, and then tried to recover my mail: I only tried to recover my .Mac mail, not my other POP accounts to start with. This worked. Then I went on to re-introduce my POP accounts from other ISPs (I have a number of these). I made some mistake in the way I chose to Sync the .Mac mail (I think I chose 'merge'). The mailboxes looked fine on my recovered system, but when I went to my other location and started up Mail, I got two copies of the whole .mac mail system - all the mailboxes and messages shown in the left column of Mail. There doesn't seem to be any way of deleting one of the copies. I also get copies of the POP accounts, and if I try to modify one of them in the Mail Preferences Accounts pane (so as to disable the 'shadow' account for example), I get messages like
    "Invalid Directory
The account path /Users/graham/Library/Mail/[email protected] is already being used by the account "XYZ at Blueyonder" "
(I have modified the user name for privacy reasons).
How can I restore stuff to normal, an in particular how can I safely get my mailboxes back to a single representation of each one? I should say that I'm also getting the dreaded duplicate mails problem, but I would like to tackle one issue at a time.

    You’re welcome.
You should also be able to fix the problem on the current location by re-creating the file where account settings are stored and resetting sync data in the opposite direction:
    1. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    2. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    3. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this fixes the problem).
    5. Open Mail. You’ll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
    6. You’ll have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    7. You may also need to re-install or re-enable any Mail plug-ins you have installed for Mail to recognize them.
    8. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail might rename Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn’t be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
    9. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

You mean when you click on the hyperlink you want that row to disappear from the page, but not delete the row from the database until a commit/submit button is pressed?
Personally, I think I'd prefer that you have a delete checkbox next to every row and NOT remove them from the display if I was a user. You give your users a chance to change their mind about their choice, and when they're done they can see exactly which rows will be deleted before they commit.
You know your problem, of course, so you might have a good reason for designing it this way. But I'd prefer not removing them from the display. JMO - MOD

    Drop user <site name> cascade;

If you wish to use this site name again in the same database you also have to delete a record from a table in the Webdb schema.
I can't remeber what that is.....
