How do I delete a VIP mailbox

How do I delete a VIP Mail Box Apple Mail Yosemite

OK it may have worked.  I needed to revert to the default email view from the Classic. After clicking on the star all the emails left and the VIP box is now empty.  We will see if it starts to fill up.  I have no idea how the computer know who my VIP are as I certainly do not. Unless they are FaceBook good friends.

How do you delete a VIP mailbox from the mail app?

    From Mail help:
    Make a sender a VIP
To keep track of messages you receive from especially important people, make them VIPs in Mail. You can have up to 100 VIPs.
To make someone a VIP, move the pointer to the left of the sender’s name in the message header and click the star that appears. You can also move the pointer over the sender’s email address, click the arrow that appears, and choose “Add to VIPs” from the pop-up menu.A mailbox for the VIP is added to the Favorites bar. For example, if you make Dad a VIP sender, his messages are displayed in a VIP mailbox titled Dad.
To remove VIP status from a sender, click the VIP’s star in a message. The star is removed and the sender’s VIP mailbox is removed from the Favorites bar.
If a VIP has several email addresses in Contacts, messages from any of those addresses will appear in the VIP’s mailbox.
If you use iCloud Contacts, your VIPs are available on your other Mac computers that use iCloud Contacts and have OS X Mountain Lion installed.
So to remove a VIP mailbox, you would have to remove all its people, and then exit mail.

  • Delete a vip mailbox

I deleted an email in a vip mailbox before deselecting the star so the vip mailbox remains in the Mail sidebar. Is there a way to delete this vip mailbox in the Mail application sidebar? I followed the support instructions Lion Mail: Delete mailboxes however, it does not apply because of what I have done as stated in the prior sentenance. Mail > Mailbox > Delete Mailbox does not work because the last command remains shaded. For the porpose of deselecting the star, I tried renaming the vip mailbox then attaching an email with the same heading name but, I could not drang and drop or If I click the star the Mail application would simply create a new vip mailbox with the same name.

When there are no more VIPs in the mailbox, the VIP mailbox will remain until you quit and reopen mail.  And by quit, I mean actually quit it... not click the little red x.  Unless you meant the sub entry?  Then see what's been posted already above.  To right click, hold ctrl and click.

How do I remove VIP mailbox from version 6.0?

Who do you "complain" to if you don't want to live with it? I have 6 mail boxes and b/c of VIP, I can't see the last one without scrolling. Is it possible to re-order the appearance? Or if I choose to delete the iCloud mailbox what would I really miss out on?

  • How do I delete a dismounted mailbox database........

I have a dismounted mailbox database on our Exchange 2010 SP1 that does not exist in the directory structure at all.  How do I delete it since it show a couple old user mailboxes that obviously aren't there since the database isn't on my hard drive?

    a small correction,
Adsiedit.msc>>Configuration>>Services>>MicrosoftExchange>>FirstOrganization>>AdministrativeGroup>>Exchange AdministrativeGroup>>>Databases>>Right click on Dismounted Database Name and Click on Delete.
    Özgür ÇEBİ
    I really don't think that's a correct answer.
Find the users in the AD that have the mailbox database assigned to them and remove the mailbox:
"get-mailbox -database <database-name>" or just use the EMC to search for the mailboxes in that database.
Once the mailbox has been removed from those users you can use the UI to remove the database.
Using ADSI for simple tasks is just wrong.

  • How do I delete hierarchy in mailboxes?

    People,
Just got a new iMac with Yosemite. I imported my mailboxes from my previous iMac (Leopard). Each of my mailboxes now has a hierarchy (i.e. mailbox name with an expansion arrow that when expanded shows another level with "messages" (see below)). I don't need or want the extra level. How do I get rid of the extra level and just show "Chip" as a mailbox?
    John

    Old Toad,
Okay, see if I did it right. There is a message with the subject: "next thoughts". I selected the "Albert Ros" mailbox folder and typed "next thoughts" into the search box at the top of Mail's window. I got two hits, one for the message I sent with that subject and a second one as a response (i.e. RE: first thoughts). I then selected the "messages" folder under "Albert Ros" and did the same search. Again I got the same two hits. Based on that, and the fact that I still have the "Albert Ros" mailbox on my old iMac as backup in case something went south, I deleted the "messages" folder under the "Albert Ros" mailbox folder. That seems to work, as the messages still exist in the "Albert Ros" mailbox, which is now just a plain folder with no hierarchy; just like I want.
I still don't understand why an import of my mailboxes from Mail under Leopard, (Mail 3.6), resulted in an extra level of indenture once they got into Mail under Yosemite (Mail 8.1). I can only guess that is is an artifact of an expanded feature of Mail 8.1. What expanded feature, I do not know.
So to resolve my issue, its looks like I will have to check each "redundantly indentured" mailbox to insure messages are indeed duplicated and then delete the "messages" folder under each. A helluva way to run a railroad, but okay, I give.
Thanks for your help. This certainly wasn't a major issue, like actually losing data, but it was one of those little annoying things that computer operating system/applications do to irritate the user. You've soothed my irritation :-)

  • How Can I Delete "Blocked Mail" mailbox?

Suddenly in Mail I have a mailbox for Blocked Mail. This is on my iMac where I am running Maverick.  I do not want to collect blocked mail; that's why I blocked it so I don't have to deal with it.  How can I get rid of this mailbox or how do I stop blocked mail from accumulating.  Thanks.

Somehow your question appeared in the Using Apple Support Communities Forum so I asked the hosts to relocate it to the iMac Forum.

  • How do I delete my MobileMe mailbox

This is still showing as a mailbox alongside iCloud in ios5?
    Thanks

Hey this is the problem "However it will continue to be accessible at http://icloud.com"
And every now and then I would need to check it
I ended up ringing them up earlier and the person I spoke to said he couldn't find a solution to delete it.
I've decided I'm going to keep it and forward e-mails from Outlook to iCloud as I like iClouds other features such as notes, reminders, calendars, work etc...
    This is allowed, right? (forwarding)

Please... how can I delete that stupid VIP mailbox that was forced onto my phone with the new software of IO6?

I had started all this with a question back in September. Thanks for the follow up. I have learned to live with the big VIP that simply takes up space on my phone. Oh well, the darn first world problems we have...
On another fun note, my movie recommendation of the week is Flight. I liked it, but I only add that so I can add something positive after starting all this with a negative frustrated venting.

  • MAIL: How do I get rid of *VIP mailbox? I really need this gone. Thanks.

MAIL: How do I get rid of *VIP mailbox? I really need this gone. Thanks.

Tried this - I think I'm doing it right - and not working. All incoming and outgoing emails appear in the VIPs and also in another unnamed stared folder in that box. I cannot delet either mailbox. I can delete mail within the boxes by choosing and deleting , often I have to do it 3 or 4 times before they decide to actually go away. Clicking on the star just highlights the message and then I delete, but new message from same recipient still shows up again. When the VIPs box and the folder in it are completely empty they are still there. Am I doing something wrong?

  • My dotMac mailboxes are duplicated - how can I delete the duplicates?

I see that problems rather like this have appeared in this forum but mine doesn't seem to be quite the same. I have two locations each with a Mac running Tiger (now 10.4.9) and I have a .mac account: I use Mac Mail as a mail client. One of my machines had an unrecoverable disk crash and the HD had to be replaced. I then reloaded Tiger and did all the updates etc, and then tried to recover my mail: I only tried to recover my .Mac mail, not my other POP accounts to start with. This worked. Then I went on to re-introduce my POP accounts from other ISPs (I have a number of these). I made some mistake in the way I chose to Sync the .Mac mail (I think I chose 'merge'). The mailboxes looked fine on my recovered system, but when I went to my other location and started up Mail, I got two copies of the whole .mac mail system - all the mailboxes and messages shown in the left column of Mail. There doesn't seem to be any way of deleting one of the copies. I also get copies of the POP accounts, and if I try to modify one of them in the Mail Preferences Accounts pane (so as to disable the 'shadow' account for example), I get messages like
    "Invalid Directory
The account path /Users/graham/Library/Mail/[email protected] is already being used by the account "XYZ at Blueyonder" "
(I have modified the user name for privacy reasons).
How can I restore stuff to normal, an in particular how can I safely get my mailboxes back to a single representation of each one? I should say that I'm also getting the dreaded duplicate mails problem, but I would like to tackle one issue at a time.

    You’re welcome.
You should also be able to fix the problem on the current location by re-creating the file where account settings are stored and resetting sync data in the opposite direction:
    1. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    2. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    3. Make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, just in case something goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. You can do this in the Finder by dragging the folder to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, for example. This is where all your mail is locally stored.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted if this fixes the problem).
    5. Open Mail. You’ll have to set up your non-.Mac accounts from scratch all over again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done.
    6. You’ll have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    7. You may also need to re-install or re-enable any Mail plug-ins you have installed for Mail to recognize them.
    8. As a side effect of re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, Mail might rename Outbox (which is where messages waiting to be sent are stored) to Delivered. The name of that mailbox is actually a misnomer, as it would contain messages (if any) that couldn’t be delivered for some reason. You can delete that mailbox if you wish.
    9. If the problem is fixed now and .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • I deleted emails from VIPs and didn't realise they would be deleted from my Mailbox. VIPs does't appear in Mail on Time Machine. Is there any way I can restore the deleted emails?

I deleted emails from VIPs in Apple Mail and didn't realise they would be deleted from my Mailbox. I have tried to restore from Time Machine but VIPs doesn't appear. Is there any way I can retrieve the deleted emails? I also have bachups on an external hard drive.
    I have OS X 10.9.2

You can't download pictures from iCloud by logging into icloud.com.  If you deleted pictures from camera roll AND photo stream, the only possibility is preforming a restore from an iCloud backup, assuming the backup has the pictures in it.  (Many users have been unable to restore and get back their pictures.)
If the restore doesn't have all the pictures, then they are gone.
In the future, use photo stream to sync photos from an iPhone to a computer, then copy the photos on the computer from the photo stream album into a permanent album.  Photo stream pics stay there only for 30 days, and only up to 1000 photos are stored.  Don't use photo stream as a storage medium, it's only for copying photos from one device to another.  Always copy (either via USB cable or photo stream) to a computer and then move to an album.

  • Is it possible to retrieve deleted emails from VIP mailbox

I deleted emails from my VIP mailbox and didn't expect them to be removed from my "On My Mac" mailbox. They are not in Trash. Can they be retrieved?
    OSX 10.9.2

    Thanks again Linc Davis.
I have tried all this, if I understand you correctly. That is,  having restored a Mail window I look at each Mailbox. The problem is that for whatever reason, deleting from VIPs also deleted from my created Mailboxes which appear in Mail under "On my Mac".
I thought that all deleted emails went to a hidden file which could be found if you knew where to look. This happens with a PC, is it not the same with Apple?
I would appreciate any further help.

When I try to delete an email, I get a message whih says "The message connot be sent to the mailbox Trash. How can I delet messages?

Try going into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then select the account on the right-hand side of that screen, select Account, then Advanced, Deleted Mailbox, and under On The Server tap the 'Trash' folder (or whatever it is called by yor provider) so that it gets a tick against it - then come out of that series of popups by tapping on the relevant buttons at the top of them and then see if you can delete emails
