How do i delete all the contacts in my iphone 4?
Okay so I've been playing around with it. There are way too many places to turn on and turn off contact syncing! It's really absurd. Not only do you have to enable it through system preferences on the iPhone and on the Mac and other devices, but you also have to make sure "Default account" in system prefs is set to "iCloud' and not exchange, and you have to make sure to go to Address Book preferences on the Mac and check "Enable" under "iCloud" and then manually move your contacts to the "iCloud" slot (in address book) from the "On My Mac" slot. And that's just what I found before I finally got it to work.

iTunes running, your phone connected, on the Info Pane, scroll down to "Advanced". Put a check in the box labeled "Replace Info on this Phone for Contacts" on next sync. Hit the apply/sync button.

After trying to sync my secondary iphone with icloud I find that I have an enormorse amount of duplications. I would like to delete all contacts from the iphone and sync with what I have on my mac. I would prefer not to do a complete reset on the iphone for this will also create a lot of work. Does anyone have any thought as to how I might accopmlish this?
I believe scottishroyalty is mistaken. As far as I know there are no contacts stored within iTunes. He must mean that he deleted duplicate contacts within the Contacts app on his computer.
The issue I have with sberman's solution is that after using that method to delete all contacts on your iPhone, when you turn the Contacts switch back to "ON" in your phone's iCloud settings all the old contacts are put back on your phone and you're right back where you started.

It's a good idea to backup your Mac Address Book application and iCal Calendars application from each application. This way you can go back and pull out items if you lose something. I do this everyday.

Two choices: 1. Plug your 3G in, iTunes running, hit the restore button. Restore the phone as a new device. Eject when finished, do not sync. 2. Plug the phone into a wall outlet(can take several hours), then: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings.
