How do I delete all "songs that can not be located" at one time?

In trying to move my music files around from drive to drive in my computer, I messed up somehow (I don't know what I'm doing, exactly and am just making things up as I go along)....but long story short, I now have duplicates of most of the songs in my music library. With each set of duplicates, there is one music file that plays fine and is "located" to the new drive (where I was trying to move everything) AND a duplicate of that music file that "cannot be located". My ultimate goal is to just delete all the duplicate titles that can't be found. Is there a way to group them all together more easily that using the Ctrl key to hunt and peck then delete them in chunks? Help!! Thanks!

Using a playlist to collect dead tracks.
Create new regular playlist – Playlist1
Select whole library and drag to Playlist1
Create new Smart Playlist with the rule: Playlist is not Playlist1
Live updating checked – after you run it, uncheck live updating or you may not be able to delete tracks.
This playlist should contain all the dead tracks ready for deletion

Or you can use a Robert Jacobson script - iTunesremovenotfound at:

The playlist method doesn't work on large libraries - iTunes get indigestion.

  • How to find all songs that do not have album art

I create several smart playlists for housekeeping, like songs with no year, songs with no album name, etc. I wanted to create a similar one that lists all songs that do not have any album art associated with it. I have not seen this option when creating a playlist, but I didn't know if there was a way to write a script (that could run on Windows) that could create this playlist for me. I can (and have) gone through each song individually to note which did not have album art, but I have almost 5000 songs, and this is not really feasible any more.
Has anyone else done anything similar to this? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Awesome !!! Thank you very much. I did not realize you could use JavaScript to code against iTunes ...
I don't know if you have written any of these yourself, but do you know how to maybe create a smart playlist with this information via script? If not, no big deal. At least I know have something which I can use, I will just have to run it every so often.
Thanks again for pointing me to that site!

  • How do I delete these songs that came in my music on iPhone 5s?

I want to delete these songs that came pre-loaded on my iphone and I can't seem to do it the same way I did on my 3Gs.  Also I can't seem to get all my music to load on my new iPhone either.

    Hi Blair,
I had to do a few extra steps.  First I had to go to settings and turn on show all, then back to music and saw a cloud by the one song that was showing up again and again.  Then, I downloaded it to the phone (it's a new phone that I just purchased and used my backup to load onto it so maybe that is why I had to do that).  Then, I went back into setting and went to the music section and turned off the show all music section again.  After that, back to the music app, found the song, swiped it (think it was to the left) and voila, DELETE!
It was soooo annoying having that song play every time I plugged my phone into my car automatically.  So glad it's over!

  • How do I delete unauthorized songs that won't play in iTunes?

I recently just downloaded all of my purchases I've made from my iphone, onto my itunes on my macbook.
I've also noticed there are songs that are in dull grey writing (not the solid black) so when I click on them nothing happens, I can't delete or play them at all. So I clicked "get info" and under summary it says it's not available.
It lists the song name, and album, and size, and whatnot.
Except I can't do anything with it. I have duplicates of the song too, one which works (solid black, clickable, etc) and then one that doesn't do anything (grey font, can't click, can't play, can't delete, etc)
How do I get rid of the songs/information that aren't working???

    Hi Allan ..
From your iTunes library, right or control click the song then click Delete.

  • My iPhone (ios7.0.2) deleted all songs that i did not buy on iTunes and it won't sync anymore

i downloaded ios 7 a week ago and everything worked perfectly but now that i wanted to import an album that i bought as a cd i had to update my itunes and since then i can't sync my iphone anymore as well as today i could literally watch all the songs that i did not buy in itunes delete themselves and i can't find a way to get them on my phone again. what do i do?

Only if you are permitted to re-download it from the source. There's nothing we can suggest to help you. There is no undelete software, but there are a number of data recovery utilities like iPod Data Recovery Software | Lost / Deleted Data Recovery for iPod.

  • How do I delete all songs on an external drive?

iTunes recently decided to scan my computer for addtional music and it found and added all the songs in a backup folder on an external drive. Now I have duplicates of over 2000 songs in my iTunes. I want to delete all the backups and use only the original songs on my hard drive in iTunes. Unfortunatly, I cannot tell them apart just by looking at them in the list view. To delete them manually, I have to "get info" for each song and check the "where" at the bottom to see which folder it is from. This is taking forever. Is there a way to delete an entire folder from iTunes, just like you can add a folder? Is there a way to display the folder address in the list view so I could sort by that and delete them all. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks, I tried that, but iTunes also added a lot of songs from my hard drive on that same date that I do not want to delete. So I cannot just delete every song added on that date.
OK, here's what to do. Unplug the external drive. (Nothing will change immediately about your iTunes library.) Next, sync your iPod. iTunes will tell you which songs it could no longer find, and also it will note them with an exclamation point. Then you will know which library entries to delete.

  • How do I find all photos that can be '"reverted to original"? Help please!

Hi. I hope that someone can help me with this!
I am trying to go through my iPhoto Library of about 1000 photos and find all of the photos that have the option to be "reverted to original", ie. I have made changes to them. I realise that I could go through them one by one, but I am trying to avoid that!
I have realised recently that I should duplicate a photo before changing it, so that I leave the original untouched. However this doesn't help me with all of the old ones that I DIDN'T duplicate.
Is there an Applescript or a method of finding all of the old photos that I am looking for?
Thanks so much in advance for any help,
    Fleur

    I don't think it can be done from within iPhoto but there's a way you can do it from outside. First download and launch QPict. Then do the following;
1 - open your iPhoto Library folder and type Command-F.
2 - in the search window create these two search criteria:
    a - Kind is Folder
    b - Name contains Original
3 - In the search results window click on the size column to separate the empty folders from those with files in them.
4 - select all of the folder that are not empty and drag into the open window of QPict.
That will open the original files in QPict so you can view them there and compare to those in iPhoto. Just remember do not move any of those folders out of the iPhoto Library folder. Just move them into the open window of QPict.

  • New owner of IPod ....how do I delete the songs that automatically appeared

    DELL   Windows XP

What songs? Did you buy this new? No new iPod comes with songs pre-installed. If your has, you might consider asking the seller how this has occurred and your iPod may not be new (a customer return perhaps?).
Anyway, to start from scratch, restore it.

  • How do I delete all of an old Mac's backups from my Time Capsule?

I have recently purchased a new Macbook Pro and used my Time Capsule to copy over the files from my iMac I wanted to keep (I didn't both with the apps, etc... just the documents, photos and music folders).
I'm going to format my old iMac clean and sell it on. I'd also like to start using my Time Capsule to backup the new MBP. But first I'd like to remove all the backup files from the TC rather than having 500 Gb of duplicated files remaining dormant as the original computer is gone (seeing as they are on the new MBP already). Given that I would have two separate computers, if I start getting low on space, then Time Machine wouldn't automatically delete the old backups of the old computer... so I just want to get rid of them.
There seems to be a number of different methods out there, each with its own warnings, etc... so I'm not sure what to do.
I don't mind reformating the TC to its original settings and starting from scratch if that's the best way, but not sure how to do that either.
    Thanks!

Erasing the Time Capsule is the fastest, easiest and best way to proceed if you are willing to start over with new backups and move forward.
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click the Time Capsule icon, then click Edit in the box that appears next to the Time Capsule
Click the Disks tab at the top of the window
    Click Erase Disk
The Quick Erase option will only take minute or two
