How do I delete an email account, but keep the email?

I have an email account from ISP that I no longer use.  I want to delete the account, but I don't want to lose the email.  How do I delete the account and save all of the email?
Can I create a folder and move all of the email from the account I want to delete to the folder?  From what I've read so far the email would still be deleted from that folder.
This seems like it would be a common occurrence with a lot of people, so I'm surprised that there is not an solution from Apple.  Apple indicates that if an email account is deleted you will lose all of the mail.  There should be an option when you delete the account that asks "Do you what to keep all of the email from this account? Yes/No".  If yes then the system automatically saves email to an archive folder or something similar.
Hopefully there is an easy workaround solution.

Create a new "On My Mac" mailbox and move the messages to it. Then delete the account.

Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iPad and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless using iCloud Photo Library).  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out and choose Delete from My iPad when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

  • Deleting a Mail Account But Keeping the Mail From That Account

I want to delete a Mail Account. But, I want to keep all of the email that was associated with that account. If I move the email to another folder within Mail, will that do the trick?

    Stephen Levin wrote:
    OK, I'm totally confused.
Here is what I normally do:
Check my email (all POP accounts).
    It comes into my inbox.
As I deal with a message, I move it from my Inbox to the appropriate folder On My Mac.
That way I end up with just a few emails in my Inbox at any time.
The way I move my messages is I select them and I drag them to the appropriate folder On My Mac.
I know this deletes them from the Inbox and adds them to the folder I am moving them to.
that's moving. when you copy, the original remains in the inbox and a copy is added to the destination folder.
But, I'm pretty sure that when I do so, the Activity Window says I am copying them.
I have several email accounts that people email me at. When I file messages away, they are all mixed up in the folders On My Mac. I have no idea which ones came from which Accounts.
Given all of the above info, if I delete one of my Accounts, will Mail delete some of the emails I have filed away in the folders On My Mac? I think the answer is No, but would like to confirm.
No, once you've moved an email to a local mailbox in "on my mac" it's completely separated from its original email account. if you delete an account it will have no effect on those messages.
I think that the only mail that Mail will delete is the email in the Inbox, Trash, Outbox, and Sent Mail for that Account, but am looking for confirmation.
    that's correct.
If that is the case, I don't care about the Trash, I'll make sure the Outbox is empty, and I'll move all of the messages for that Account out of the Inbox and Sent Mail before I delete the Account.
What do you think, will that work?
yes. sorry for confusing you before. This should work just fine.
My suggestion was simply that you copy messages instead of moving them as you've been doing. once the copy is successful you can delete the originals or just delete the account and the originals with it. you don't have to do it but that's a safer operation then moving them directly when you have to do it with a lot of messages at once. That's all. I've seen posts by people who were trying to move large numbers of emails between mailboxes and had Mail choke on the operation. that can result in a loss of emails.
If not, how can I hide the Account I'm no longer planning on using. Right now Mail keeps trying to check it every time I check my Mail and I get that broken icon next to the folders.
In case the OS matters, I'm running the latest version of 10.5 on a Power PC.
    Thanks!

  • How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

How do we split our iCloud accounts but keep one iTunes account so we can share purchased content for our multiple iPhones and iPads?

You can migrate a copy of the data to a new account, then delete the other person's data from each account.  To do this, on the phone that will be changing accounts, if you have any photos in photo stream that you want to keep on the phone, save these to your camera roll by opening the photo stream album in the thumbnail view, tapping Edit, then tap all the photos you want to save, tap Share and tap Save to Camera Roll. If you have any synced notes that you want to keep on the phone, email these to yourself so you can create new notes in the new account.
Once this is done, go to Settings>iCloud, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account.  (This will only delete the account from this phone, not from iCloud.  The phone that will be keeping the account will not be effected by this.)  When prompted about what to do with the iCloud data, be sure to select Keep On My iPhone.  Next, set up a new iCloud account using a different Apple ID (if you don't have one, tap Get a Free Apple ID at the bottom).  Then turn iCloud data syncing for contacts, etc. back to On, and when prompted about merging with iCloud, choose Merge.  This will upload the data to the new account.  You will create a new icloud email address with you turn Mail to On.
Finally, to un-merge the data you will then have to go to icloud.com on your computer and sign into each iCloud account separately and manually delete the data you don't want (such as deleting your wife's data from your account, and vice versa).

  • How do I delete a mailbox and still keep the emails?

I recently moved to another state and changed my ISP, so I need to delete an old mailbox that is no longer functional. I don't want to erase any of the email from that account, though, and am concerned that if I delete the account in my mail preferences I will lose those emails, although I have moved them from the inbox of the old account into other folders I created within the mail program. Any wisdom, anyone?
    Thanks-
    mg

Thank you for your suggestions. I've had a few bugs crop up in the process, though. My first step was to move all 659 "sent" emails from the sent box of the old account to the sent box of my current .mac account. I hit command "A" to select all of the sent emails in the sent box window, then selected "move to" from "message" in the menu bar and selected the .mac sent box as the destination. It seemed to take at least 15 minutes to complete the process, and although the sent box of the old account was empty, it appeared when I clicked on the .mac sent box that not quite all of the 659 emails had transferred, missing almost 300 sent emails.
I kept going though, and as suggested, quit Mail, and then made a copy of my user mail folder as suggested, dragging the folder to my desktop while holding down the option (alt) key. Then I reopened Mail, went to preferences, and deleted my old account. After that, I clicked through my remaining "In" mail boxes from the current accounts and the folders I had created in "On My Mac", and wierdly, it seemed every email had disappeared.
I didn't panic because I had made a copy to my desktop, so I quit Mail, and then reopened it, and it seemed everything was there, although still not all of the sent emails. Also when clicking through, Mail seemed to be functioning slowly, and the disappearing email thing happened again. I thought maybe Mail was getting confused between the mail folder in my user folder, and the copy on my desktop, so I moved the copy I had made to the trash, but didn't delete it just in case I needed it again. Then I quit Mail, went to disk utility, fixed permissions, shut down my computer, rebooted my internet cable modem and router, restarted my mac, and when I opened Mail, all my emails were there, including the emails I had moved to folders "On My Mac" from the old account. The old account was deleted, but the Sent box still seemed to be retrieving emails. When it finished, I checked the Sent box, and all of the emails I had transfered from the old account's Sent box were there. Whew.
It looks like Mail is working correctly, all the emails from my old account I wanted to keep are there in my "On My Mac" folders, and the old account is deleted. I'm not sure what happened when all the email in Mail initially disappeared right after I deleted my old account, but I'm sure there's an explanation. Copying my user mail folder before I deleted my old account did save me a panic attack, so I would highly recommend that suggestion I was given in case of problems or bugginess.
    Thanks for your help!

  • How do I delete a user account to regain the space on my HD?

How do I delete a user account I am not using to regain the space on the HD?

System Preferences - Accounts - choose account in the left panel and click the "-" button to delete. You'll want to choose "Delete immediately" to save the space (the "Save in disk image" option will keep the files in an image in your Users folder, which saves you no space).

  • I am running 4 ipod classica through one computer and one itunes account/profile.  The ipods belong to me, husband and 2 kids.  How can the kids now get their own accounts but keep the stuff I have already downloaded for them?  They have their own laptops

I am currently running 4 ipod classics through my own account/profile on itunes.  They belong to me, my husband and 2 kids.
The kids are getting older now and have their own laptops.  I would like them to have their own itunes accounts as they will be away from home much of the time and will want to make their own puchases.
How can I set them up so that they are independent from my account, but not lose the content that I have downloaded for them over the years?  (A lot of content).

You and your husband can share a store account and still have seperate iCloud accounts for your contacts, bookmarks and stuff like that.  Click here for instructions to make an apple account without entering a credit card.  Make sure you use a different email address for each apple account.
Set up your iPhone/iPad whatever using the new account for iCloud.  Then go into settings/store and sign in with your purchasing account, you may need to sign out of the other account.  To the best of my knowledge, your household is allowed to share purchased legally, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
Once you each have your own devices set to your own accounts you can set them to backup to that account and it will keep all your contacts seperate.

i want to set up a different account for my kids but would like for them to keep the music they/we have already purchased.  How do i do that?

You cannor move or merge content from one account to another.  You'll have to come up with a way by which they can still have access to their previous purchases but start off with thir own accounts which they will eventually need for the day they leave the nest.

  • How do I delete an apple account without knowing the password?

My daughter has another persons apple ID account on her phone and we cannot contact the other person to obtain the password to remove their Apple ID on the phone.  Is there any way we can delete/remove this account from her phone without the password?  Any help would be very much appreciated.  Thank you.

If you mean the iPhone is logged into the AppStore or iTunes under
another account, just sign out and then sign back in with your daughter's
    ID.
If you mean the iPhone will not allow any access because it is locked to someone else's
ID, that is a security feature of iOS 7. You must have the other person remove
their account or provide their ID info.

  • My daughter currently uses my apple ID.  How do I set her up her own account but keep the music we have purchased

My daughter currently uses my Apple ID.  How do I set her up her own ID but retain the music she has purchased?

You cannot associate previous purchases with a new ID.
A specific answer as to how to otherwise share media will depend upon your computer setup, about which we currently have no idea. Do you have more than one, at they networked, does she use the media on an i-device?

  • I want to create a new itunes account but keep the content.  Is this possible?

My family has always used one Itunes account for all devices.  Now it is necessary for us to create a new itunes account.  We want to keep the apps, music etc that we each have now.  How can I do this?  Is this even possible?

I hope this isn't too wordy but I want to be as clear and explicit as I can for you.
You can't transfer purchases from one account to another account. Apple doesn't allow it.
You can continue to use your daughter's Apple ID in order to continue to use the apps that you purchased with her ID and you will need to use her ID and password any time that you want to update those apps. What you do want to avoid is having to download any of those purchased apps again on any other devices - if you create a new Apple ID.
If you create a new ID and then you sign into her ID in order to download a previous purchase-  you will lock yourself out of the new ID for 90 days and there is nothing that you can do about it. So as long as you do NOT download any past purchases with her ID - you will not lock yourself out of the new ID. So you can keep using the apps that were bought with her ID, you can also update those apps using her ID (you have to sign into her account in Settings>Store) but you can't download past purchases without messing things up with your new ID.
When you download a past purchase with a different ID - you associate that device with the different ID for 90 days. This is one way that Apple hopes to cut down on pirating of apps - friends using other friends IDs in order to download apps without patting for them.
This explains it in a little more detail.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
The bottom line is that you can create a new ID, still use her ID - judiciously - but you really want to avoid downloading past purchases with her ID. Transfer all of those purchases into iTunes so that if something happens and you need the purchased content again, you can just sync it again rather than downloading it.
    This explains transferring purchases.

  • How do I rescale artboard and content, but keep the same path width

    Hi,
I have a project with a lot of artboards with content set-up inside each artboard - actually a series of icons.
I'd like to resize all of the artboards and the content, keeping the same line widths.
I can use the 'save for web' feature to scale the existing artboards/content, but I don't want the line widths to be scaled too.
I have failed to find a script or feature that would allow me to do this and save me from manually resizing every artboard and the content.
I'll immediately hold my hands up to having a minimalist knowledge of illustrator.
Any thoughts? I'm surprised it's not a feature of 'save for web'.
    Currently using CS6.
    Thanks,
    Paul

No, rescaling the paths inside illustrator keeps the path width the same. It's the 'export for web' dialog upscaling the content is also upscaling the path widths. I can understand why it does that, but surprised it it ignores the scaling strokes option and doesn't provide that option itself.
    Thanks for the suggestion, though.

  • How can I delete songs from iTunes but keep them on my phone?

I want to delete songs off of my computr because it's taking up unnecessary space, but how can I do this without them being removed from my iPhone when I sync it next?

As given, removing from the library causes the songs to be removed during sync. So the space taken up is neccessary... What would you do if your iPhone where lost, stolen, damaged or needed to be restored?
If you ned more room for storage buy a bigger drive. In fact buy two, one to use as a backup for your library and all your other important files.

  • My husband and I are separated, but still using the same App Store account.  Is there any way I can create a new account but keep the apps (and, more importantly, the data in those apps)?

I have budgeting and home management apps that contain lots of data and I would like to retain these apps and the data when we split our App Store accounts.  Is there any way to do that? I don't want to have to go and buy the apps again - this includes all the kids' games that we bought on the account.

    PrettyPettyThings wrote:
Thanks.  Well I retain the data if I purchase the app again?
That depends on the app and where the app's data are stored. I think if you back up the phone, delete the app, purchase it again using your Apple ID, then restore the backup you will get your data back. But I cannot guarantee it.
