How do I delete an email account from iPhone 5?

I have a gmail account on my iPhone 5 that stopped working two days ago (stopped sending or receiving email). This account had worked since I got the phone in November. I want to delete this account from my phone and try reloading it but it will not delete. I hit delete account and it reappears after I close the settings.
Does anyone have a fix for this?

Basic troubleshooting from the Users Guide is reset, restart, restore ( first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

Delete it the same way you added it. There should be an icon on your home screen for "Setup Internet Email" or "Manage Internet Email" and you can use that to delete your email account from the BIS system.

I setup icloud in my iphone with an email account [email protected] but this one is not the same that my original me.com email which is linked to my mac, when I transfer my mobilme account to Icloud my original me.com email is the one linked with my company email and is in my macboodair but is not sincronizing with my iphone because the me.com email on the iphone is different to my original me.com email.

Deleting IMAP email accounts from iPhone

I can't delete an IMAP email account form my iPhone. I got to settings > Mail, Conatct, Calendars > select the email account but I don't get the option to delete. I can only switch off the mail. Other mail accounts such as Hotmail and iCloud give me the option to delete.
It's a secure server email account.
Any ideas?

Cannot delete GoDaddy Email Account from iPhone 5s

Hello. I'm having a strange issue. So first off, the email account I'm referencing is a GoDaddy account. I recently changed my password, and somehow outgoing mail stopped working, saying that the password is wrong. I've re-enter the correct password many times, and it still doesn't work. So then I thought, screw it, I'll delete and then re-add the account, but there is no 'Delete' option in the account settings, as shown in all the tutorials. It is not an issue of Restriction settings, as they are off, but I turned them on, and made sure that mail wasn't restricted and it made no difference. Anyone else having this issue? Anyone have any idea what to do?

Also, I have two other email accounts on my phone, one AOL, and one iCloud, and both of them appear as you would expect when you go into Settings: with toggle buttons for 'Mail' and 'Notes' and a 'Delete Account' option. But in the GoDaddy account, there isn't any of those options, just the specific settings (Incoming/Outgoing Server) and no 'Delete' option. And like I said, it isn't a 'Restrictions' issue. I'm stumped. I've attached screenshots to help explain what I'm talking about.
*And obviously the empty fields are filled out correctly, I've deleted them in the photos for privacy reasons....

I have managed to delete everything from it and have restored factory settings but my email is still showing in a bar across the home screen. I have tried for hours to cancel it but just cant figure out how. Any help would be much appriciated.

No-one seems to have come up with a "proper" answer here, so after ages of struggling I managed to find the very confusing, long winded way of simply deleting an e-mail account:
Tap Messaging, tap the e-mail account once to select it (don't go into it, select only), tap Options, Settings, Email, Mailboxes, tap on the account you want to delete, Options, Delete.
Surely this could be an Options "option" from the main messaging screen??

You can make an alias, your current address will still be functional but you don't have to use it, the same will be true if you open a new iCloud account as well.
Do you suspect that changing the password will not stop others accessing the account?

You will need the password. If you can't get it reset via http://iforgot.apple.com (if you remember the answers to the account's security questions then you should be able to reset it via them) then try contacting Support in your country, they should be able to reset it.

How do I fully delete an email account from my Apple Mail app on my iMac?
When I go here: Mail > Preferences Mail > Accounts
I got the message that I needed to delete it from my Internet Accounts.
When I go here: System Preferences > Internet Accounts > select the account >
I cannot select or click the minus sign on the bottom left to delete the account because it does not appear in the list.
Yet the email account still shows up in my email logs with errors that it cannot connect.
The email account no longer appears in the left column where all my email accounts are in Apple Mail as I have deleted that domain and no longer use it, so the email was deleted at the server level. However, again, the email account still shows up in my email logs with errors that it cannot connect.
This is driving me bananas!

If you haven't already done so, please quit and relaunch Mail. See whether the account goes away.
