How do I delete an old apple id from my messages account?

When I upgraded from iphone 4 to 5s, my new iphone automatically set the messages account to that of an old apple id. The old apple id is from college, the email account no longer exists, and I have forgotten my password that was associated with the apple id. Because the email address no longer exists and i cannot remember the answers to my security questions, i cannot reset my password and login into messages on my iphone. My goal is to set my new apple id in messages on my iphone so that I can sync my iphone messages with the messages on my macbook pro. Does anyone know how to delete the old apple id?

To remove the apple id from the device, go to Settings>icloud>delete account. NOTE: this will only remove the account from the iPad. It will not delete the account.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
Your Apple ID is used for several services through your iPhone. To replace the previous Apple ID you will need to sign out of it in a few different spots and sign in with the current Apple ID (depending on what Apple ID you choose to use for each individual service). The services you may need to sign out of old Apple ID and into new one could include iCloud, Messages, FaceTime, and iTunes & App Stores. You can see what Apple ID is currently signed in and sign out of it in the following areas: Settings > iCloud, Settings > Messages, Settings > FaceTime, and Settings > iTunes & App Store. How Do I Delete My Old Apple ID From My iPhone When That ID No Longer Exists?

I moved, and cancled my internet provider, losing that associated email (email #1). It was the same email I used for my Apple ID. At some point in the unknown past, the only other email adress I have (email #2) was also signed up for a speerate Apple ID
I spoke to Apple on the phone, they walked me through changing my Apple ID from email #1 to email #2 and deleting any record of email #1. All worked fine.
But now, my iPhone can't do anything iCloud related because it's looking for my original Apple ID with email #1. I can't download apps, I can't download podcasts and most frustrating, I can not DELETE the old Apple ID without a password, which I've tried but am told it doesn't like it - probabbly because that email doesn't exist in the first place.
So, can I do anything before getting back on the phone with Apple?

I changed my internet provider and address. I then changed my apple id to coincide with my new address and deleted my old address. My phone did not update to the new address. I can't change the details on my phone in settings because i can't access the internet. i tried to delete the account but i can't do that with out logging in.

Welcome to the Apple community.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

I was given an iPhone 4 by my daughters friend, I use it for my sons to play games on only, its not connected to our phone service, but his apple id is still associated with the phone and after I updated the phone, it keeps asking me for his password, which I do not know nor can I get in touch with him to find out. It is using his apple id for an iCloud account, which I have never used. I sync the phone with iTunes on my iMac with my apple id and my kids can purchase things using my ID, but his is still coming up and its frustrating my kids, lol, because every 2 seconds a prompt comes up to enter the Apple ID password for his email to sign into iCloud. Not sure why its doing it more now, maybe because of the update?? Its version IOS 8.1.3. Please help me and help me delete and disassociate his account from this phone! Thanks!

And by the way, this was NOT a lost or stolen phone, it was given to my daughter who then gave it to her brothers to play games on. It was legally obtained!

Hi.
I had a similar problem myself. This is what helped me.
I went to the App store app, scrolled to the bottom, logged out of the account, re logged in with my Apple ID. Then went back to app updates. Once I put in my ID password all was fine.
