How do I delete an old email account?

After change of internet service provider I need to delet an old email account. How can I do so?

In a similar problem, I have an old work email that is imported to mac mail / icloud. Following the advice above (
Mail Preferences/accounts, advanced tab and click disable this account.
You can re-enable this account to check for anything that may have come in there.) doesn't help because the only account that shows up is my icloud/mac account.
Any advice to no longer receive imported mail from the old work address?

OK that's what Ithought you were talking about.
You can't actually delete an old Apple ID. You just sign into the new ID to use that one. Your old ID must be popping up because you used it in the past to purchase content with it. You cannot transfer purchases from one Apple ID to another Apple ID. You have to continue to use the old ID if you want to update content that was used to purchase with that ID.
Did you sign into your new account in the settings and you can't stay signed in?

You have to open iTunes -> click iTunes Store and login with the old email and then logout -> Now login with the new email that you want and connect your iPhone via USB to your computer and synchronize your iPhone with new email.

I was asked to update a password to our company email account and I updated. Then I had to update the password on my iphone. Now my iphone won't send any emails out because it is asking for an update to an email account that was never associated with this iphone (the email account was from a former employer). It must have been restored or synced to my iphone or tied to iTunes through syncing. I deleted the old employer phone from itunes when I left the job and purchased a new iphone.
But now my new iphone is not sending emails because it says that the old email account does not recognize the new password. And there is no old email account to delete. I've looked in my itunes acccount to try to delete there as well and can find nothing to delete from the old account.

I would next reset the network settings on the phone, in case there is some info there that is stuck and causing the issue:
Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note: This will reset all network settings including:
previously connected Wi-Fi networks and passwords
recently used Bluetooth accessories
VPN and APN settings

I would also check these locations to see if the account is signed in anywhere else as an Apple ID in your Settings:

If not I would as a last resort, backup your iPhone with this article:

Hi, mpeza. @Srikanthsd's suggestion should enable you to delete your email accounts on your phone. If this doesn't work, you can share with us the error message that you are getting, if there's any. Also, rebooting the phone would be a great idea to refresh the phone's software. To do this, kindly turn off the phone, remove the battery and wait for a few seconds. After that, return them back to their proper place and switch it on. Keep us posted.

If your device is signed into an old ID of yours that is an earlier version of the ID you want to sign in with, do the following:
If you are using iMessage and FaceTime, make sure you are signed into these services with your current ID. If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.) Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID). Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless you are using iCloud Photo Library). When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was. Also, I am having to deal with a good portion of daily tasteless spam content at the original @me.com address. I cannot help but note that it is absolutely absurd to not allow the deletion of an email account in an ISP or Cloud environment.
