How do I delete hundreds of duplicate tracks ??

Hello.
I have inadvertently duplicated a lot of my music when importing from various devices. I know how to display the duplicates and how to delete the duplicate manually but as I have over 34886 tracks this will take weeks to sift through and delete manually. Does anyone know how to delete duplicates automatically ? Any help and advice would be gratefully received. Thanks in advance.

  • Deleting hundreds of duplicate files in Itune Library

how do I delete HUNDREDS of duplicate files that show up in my ITunes library? I guess I (or my teenagers) keep importing or adding the same files and folders back in somehow, and now I have 5 or 6 files of each song, hundreds in all. I can't delete these individually..... and the 'consolidate' thing seems to want to erase my mp3 library, I don't want that because I have an old Samsung/Napster that uses those. I just need to delete duplicate files in my Itunes library with one click. Any way to do that?

I had the same problem. I found many duplicates on my pc after moving files to an external hard drive. Some duplicates existed before this move but I did not worry about them. So, after a while my children were running out of space on their ipods so I used the "Show Duplicates" feature and deleted "the .....ing duplicates". Now my children tell me a great deal of their purchased music is missing and they are very annoyed. I told them that I thought Apple/iTunes spoke English and that Duplicate means just that, A Duplicate. This is extremely annoying. It seems like such a common sense fubar thing which is contrary to the awesome quality of the itunes/ipod in general. How do I get the songs we already *payed for* back on our computer? Or, are we screwed and in a spot where we must repurchase this music? Honestly, this is something I expect from microsoft, not Apple.

  • How do we delete all the duplicate songs?

we have been coping our C Ds and found that we have tons of duplicate songs . how do we delete all the duplicates?

Apple's official advice is here... HT2905 - How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. It is a manual process and the article fails to explain some of the potential pitfalls.
Use Shift > View > Show Exact Duplicate Items to display duplicates as this is normally a more useful selection. You need to manually select all but one of each group to remove. Sorting the list by Date Added may make it easier to select the appropriate tracks, however this works best when performed immediately after the dupes have been created.  If you have multiple entries in iTunes connected to the same file on the hard drive then don't send to the recycle bin.
Use my DeDuper script if you're not sure, don't want to do it by hand, or want to preserve ratings, play counts and playlist membership. See this thread for background and please take note of the warning to backup your library before deduping.
(If you don't see the menu bar press ALT to show it temporarily or CTRL+B to keep it displayed)
Note also that I don't consider the same song appearing on different albums to be duplicates.

If its a POP account, it most likely cannot be changed... Its just the service you signed up for.  I suggest deleting on your computer, and then on your iPhone, remove the email address.  Then re-add the email and it should only load whats currently on the POP server.

Simply go to your Camera Roll.  Tap on the photo you want to delete.  When the next window opens, you will see a trash can in lower right hand corner of screen. Hit the trash can. Confirm your desire to delete.  It's as easy as that.
What does that have to do with deleting email?

  • How do I delete all corrupted duplicates from iphoto '09?

    Hello.
I am not a computer person so before I say anything, just please don't allow your disdain of me to come through in your replies.
Somehow I have 44,000 images in my iPhoto library and I am guessing that half of them are corrupted duplicates (and triplicates, etc.) that won't even open. I also have the original images in the library which are not corrupted.
My question is how do I delete all the corrupted duplicates and simplify the library so that there are NO duplicates? I have no reason to have any duplicates.
Also, these corrupted duplicates may have been mistaken for the real photos and the real photos (some of them) are now sitting in the Trash folder.
I have made a mess of things. Can anyone help me fix this?
    Thank you in advance,
    Haley

  • How do I delete/remove unessary/duplicate fles

Recently my old tower crashed, I bought another (Used) but it has numerous files stored I do not need/use How do I delete/remove the files?

If you have the operating system disk so that you can re-install the operating system, the safest thing to do is to format the hard drive in that new (used) PC to start from scratch. Keep in mind that you will loose all installed programs, so those will need to be re-installed.
Otherwise, file-by-file or folder-by-folder right-click and '''Delete''' the file or folder. When you're done make sure you run a de-fragmentation utility program; WIndowsXP has one in Programs > Accessories -> System Tools

  • How do i delete albums, playlists or tracks?

how do i delete albums, playlists or tracks

To delete an item from your library:
Click the item to select it, and press the Delete key.
    Click Remove.
    Do one of the following:
To remove the item only from your iTunes library, click Keep File.
To delete the item from your computer, click Move to Trash. The item is deleted the next time you empty the Trash.
Removing an item from a playlist doesn’t remove it from your iTunes library or your computer. Deleting a playlist or folder doesn’t remove the songs from your library or hard disk.
When you delete a folder, all the playlists and folders inside that folder are also deleted.
You might not be able to remove songs from a Smart Playlist that has “Live updating” turned on, because the playlist is continually updated.

  • How can I delete all the duplicate photos I have in iPhoto?  There are hundreds.....

Can anyone help me?  I have noticed a large number of duplicate photos appearing in my iPhoto.... probably after we have connected several iOS devices that are synced.  Is there a way for iPhoto to identify all these?  If not, is there a third party program?  This is annoying, to say the least!

  • How can i delete all the duplicates in iTunes library?,

have three copies of each song showing in the library. i am sure there is an easy solution. what is it?

It depends a bit on how they got added and if each duplicate represents a separate file (physical dupes) or if you have multiple entries to the same files (logical dupes). See this article How to find and remove duplicate items in your iTunes library. The method given there works fine if the duplicates were all added at the same time and are physical duplicates. If they are logical duplicates then don't delete the underlying files or you lose your only copy of the track. If the dupes are not so easy to isolate by sorting then arrange them in the usual album order and delete all but one of each repeating group.
If that all sounds like too much effort try Dupin/Dupin Lite from http://dougscripts.com/itunes/.

  • HONESTLY. HOW DO I DELETE OVER 3500 DUPLICATES?

    Hi Everyone,
I now have over 3,500 duplicate songs thanks to iTunes allowing me to import songs I already have on file.
In iPhoto it asks if you would like to import duplicates or replace old ones with new files.
Why can't iTunes do the same?? I have no idea.
So now i am once again stuck with 3500 duplicates.I have tried the Corral script but it does the same as " SHOW DUPLICATES ".
I still have to manually select and then delete each file,
I would just erase my iTunes music since I only reference the files from an External Drive and then re-import all the files but the duplicates exist on my external as well.
Any ideas on how to erase 3500 duplicates other than manually and yes better file management would be the first step for me.
    Cheers.

iTunes does give you a pop up warning telling you that you already have imported this file asking if you want to replace it or add it, not sure why it doesn't work for you. The files have to be the same, not just name and title. But there are ways to delete duplicates using iTunes scripts. I use Hubi's iTunes scripts and I especially like the "remove missing files" script which deletes library entries that have missing files that were stored outside the iTunes Music Folder. There is a "remove duplicates script", haven't used it yet so I can't tell you if it works as planned.

  • Keyboard shortcut...How Do I delete hundreds of pages at once?

I have a spreadsheet imported from an Excel spreadsheet. The sheet is composed of 374 pages most of which are blank...I only need the first two for the time being? How do I select the first row and then go to the last row so I can highlight all and delete in one fell swoop? It takes forever to select the first row and then drag down to the last one? Is it me or is Numbers incredibly slow at this kind of thing when done with a mouse? I've got 4 GB of RAM on a two months old 2.2 MacBook so it isn't the memory or horsepower.
    Thanks for any advice.

Click on the row number of the first one you want to delete & then scroll down to the last row, hold down the shift key & click the last row number. All rows in between will be selected. Control- or right-click on any cell & select Delete Rows from the contextual menu.
