  • How do I delete large numbers of photos from library and hard drive without clicking on each one individually?

For instance by dragging across them like you would do to move a block of type. Or any other way. I'm editing about 5,000 images.

The Short answer is the Same Way you select multiple files on the computer system of your choice. Windows would be to click on the first image then hold down the Shift key and select the last image or if they don't run concurrently select the first, hold down the Ctrl key and click the individual files. Once that is don't hit the Delete key and select whether to delete from the just the catalog or Remove from Disk.
On Mac it is the same except the hold down key for selecting non concurrent images and there really isn't a Delete key on a Mac. IIRC you hold down the shift or command key and hit the Backspace key which is labeled Delete.

if you do it on the phone, yes - one by one.
if it is really many photos: connect phone to your computer. open digital images. import all your photos to a folder of your choice, tick 'delete after import'. import. now your photos are gone on your phone, and inside the destination folder you selected in digital images. delete this one, too. done.

Are you using iPhoto on your iPad? Then deleting photos will depend on the album they are in and how they have been added to the iPad.
See this document for IOS 6 and earlier:   iPhoto for iOS (iPad): Delete photos from iPhoto
If you also have a Mac, you can delete quickly large amounts of photos from your camera roll by connecting your iPad to your computer using USB and importing the photos into Image Capture, iPhoto, or Aperture. Then set the option to delete the photos after importing.
Photos you synced to your iPad can only be deleted by syncing again.
If you are using IOS 7 you can delete larger amounts of photos from your Camera Roll in the "Moments" view:
n the Photos.app you can select all photos in a "Moment" at once, by pressing "Select" to the right of the "Moment" name. Then press the Trash icon.

  • Deleting large numbers of photos

I shot a high school football game last night with my D3. Using 9 fps, I quickly ended up with lots of pictures to sift through. Being very selective to print only the best, I am throwing away 90% of what I now have in Lightroom 2. I have a slow old computer and it takes the better part of a minute to delete one picture. I know how to do one picture at a time but there must be a better way. How can I mark/select large groups of pictures to delete so I don't have to wait for "loading" to finish on each individual picture?

Hi, I mark the photos I want to delete by pressing "X", which flags them as Rejected, and then once done, I press Ctrl+BackSpace (on Windows - not sure if MAC is the same, or Command + Backspace or something) and they all get deleted. (eg the last shoot was our California trip - 800 photos. Quickly went through the batch, and deleted once at the end.)
    Hope this helps,
    Kai

  • How do I delete large quantities of photos from iPad?

I used the camera adapter to input the photos as a backup device on vacation. Now I want to get rid of them. Deleting 2000+ photos one at a time will be painful. Does anyone have an easier way?

If you have a Mac you can delete photos en masse from the iPad's Camera Roll without importing them with the free Apple app Image Capture. Image Capture is in the Applications folder of every Mac.
If you have a PC, I am not familiar with a similar app.

You don't need iTunes for that. Simply connect the iPhone to the PC where it will be recognized as a camera. You can then select the photos you wish to transfer, transfer them, and delete them.

They are deleted in the same way as photos, which are deleted by : only photos/videos taken with the iPad, copied onto it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/wesites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad - either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo/video in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view. Photos/videos that were synced from your computer are deleted by removing them from where they were synced from and then re-syncing.

How do I delete large files, so they don't take 12 to 16 hours to delete?

Don't use the Secure Empty Trash option on items which don't contain sensitive data. If the Trash is always doing it, create two folders with the same name in different locations, drag the files into one, and move the other into the folder which contains the first.
