How do i delete Music/Photos off my iPod

I bought my iPod today, and my friend just put all his music on it, but there are alot of stuff i don't want on there, and I can't seem to get rid of them...same with photos, i had stuff in My Pictures but i didn't want them to go onto my iPod, do i have to deletre the songs/photos from my computer to delete them from the iPod? because my friend said just to uncheck the little checkbox next to the song names, and i tried that and it didn't work... Please help.

If you put it on manual sync it is easier to deal with for deleting music, you just delete.
Photos will still use autosync though, so if you have a picture you want off, uncheck the folder it is in through itunes. This will present you with the choice to delete the photos.
OR move it out of that folder through your computer's OS, when the ipod syncs the image will be gone.

For each of the following, delete the songs from the ipod and re-add them after the step.
If part of an album has art but the rest does not, the ipod will not display any art for that album, even though itunes will.
1. Check to see if every song in the album has the art. If they do, clear the downloaded art and get it again.
2. If this doesn't work, right click the album art in the popup art window and choose "copy". Highlight all the songs in the album and right click in the art popup window and click "paste", even if there is a picture there. Itunes should process the album and write id3 tags for the pasted image.

For photos synced from your computer ( photo library pics) you don't. The photo sync is one way - computer to ipod.
You need to move the pics from your old computer or your backup copy of the old computer. You could e-mail them to yourself. They will not be of the original resolution.
For pics taken with ipod ( Camera Roll Pics), then you import them as you would from any digital camera.

Thank you very much for your help. Actually, I just found another solution. I checked the box at the bottom of the Summary page which says Manually manage music and videos. I then clicked Apply and after that, I was able to delete content.
Why are neither of these solutions available when you query Help?
Perhaps one of the highly paid help in Apple could tell me (and all the others who have commented) what benefits we are getting from the upgrade to 12.1. It just seems to have made it less user friendly and more difficult to use.

How can I delete music from my iPhone/iPod Touch on iTunes? My original computer broke and I connect my devices to my laptop but I cannot delete to make room even when I activate my account to the laptop. You can delete photo stream photos from iCloud by just deleting them on your iPod. My photo stream photos are automatically deleted from iCloud after 30 days anyway. Just so you are aware, deleting photo stream photos doesn't free up any space in your account as they don't use your personal iCloud account storage.
You can't delete music from iCloud because the music isn't stored in your account; it's stored in the iTunes store. What you are seeing are links to your previously purchased music in the iTuens store, allowing you to redownload them if you want to. You can't remove anything from your list of previous purchases. If you don't want to see these "iTunes in the Cloud" purchases in your song list, go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and turn off Music under Show All. LIke photo stream photos, this music doesn't use any of your personal iCloud account storage.

If its to save room I wouldn't drag the files to the trash. That would get rid of them for good. I know you said you can't by computer, if your syncing with that computer, under music when it's connected, don't sync full library. Go through and select the certain songs you want. When did this deletion happen? Which version of iOS 8 do you have on your iPad? Depending on your settings you may not see My Photo Stream on the iPad any longer. With iOS 8 "My Photo Stream" will only show on the iPad, if you did not enable iCloud Photo Library (Beta).

If you don't want to delete too much then you can do it directly on the iPad. You can either swipe across track names and you should get a delete button, or on the album or artist selection screens you can press and hold an album or artist and you should then get an 'x' on its top corner which will delete the album or artist if you tap it.
If you want to delete more then it may be quicker to connect the iPad to your computer, and on the left-hand side of your computer's iTunes under the iPad device you should see a Music section (if you don't see the content types listed then click the arrow next to the iPad's name) - select that and on the right-hand side you should see a list of the music that is on your iPad, and you can then select and delete them.
