How do I delete songs from my personal Apple ID without them being deleted from my family's account on the same computer?

I created a seperate ID from my family because I just got a new iPod and will need a personal account when I soon go off to college. All of the music from the original account has transfered over. Everytime I try to delete a song on my ID, it is also deleted off of my family's. How do I delete stuff off mine without affecting anyone else's?

You will be able to rebuild a library on a different computer by re-downloading any songs that you purchased to that computer from iTunes in the Cloud. You will not be able to download any music purchased under the family's iTunes ID (unless you sign on the family's iTunes ID to your new computer and authorize the computer for that ID as well). Then you would be able to download any music you purchased under that ID to the new computer as well.
But you do not want to delete items from your current family's iTunes Library. To selectively download specific music to your iPod, you need to sync it to the library:
Hook up the iPod to the computer, and select it under Devices when it shows up
Once you have clicked on it, you will see the Device Profile screens to your right
Check each screen to determine what you do and do not want sync'd to your iPod
Pay specific attention to the Music tab. On that screen, select the specific music you want downloaded
Once you have set up your Device Profile screens, click Apply, then Sync
Note that when you get your new computer, and hook up your device to it, it is going to erase all of the items that get synced from your device, and replace what it there with whatever is in the library on your new computer.
However, Any Apps, Music, TV Shows, Movies, Books that you have purchased, can be downloaded to build your own library prior to attaching your device, so that your purchased items will replace what is there now. And again, you can also add to that library with items you purchased under your family's iTunes ID by signing that ID on to your new computer and downloading items under that ID that you have purchased. Once you have "built" your library, you can then sync your device.
Cheers,

Copy the whole iTunes folder from the My Music directory to the Music folder in the Home directory on the Mac.
The easiest way to do this is to create another user with the second library.
If you want both libraries on the same user account then you will need to choose which library iTunes opens everytime you launch (hold down the OPTION key while launching) it as itunes can only read one library at a time. If you do not choose on launch it will open the last library it was connected to. You will also need to rename the iTunes folder when you move it (eg: iTunes2) because your husband's library will already be in the Music directory in a folder named iTunes.
You can also leave your library on the PC and turn on Home Sharing. As long as you leave the PC running with iTunes open, you will be able to access it from any Mac, Apple TV or iOS devices on the network that is signed in to Home Sharing with the same  Apple ID.

  • I have just opened a new account for my Ipod Nano. My husband and daughter both have accounts on the same computer. I have registered and have downloaded a song, however it the Ipod has synchronised and also downloaded all my daughters tunes fron her Ipod

I have just opened a new account with my new I pod Nano. I have registered,my husband and daughter have an Itunes account on the same computer. I have bought one song but the Ipod has synvhronised also downloading my daughters tunes from her Ipod.
How do I delete all these songs and prevent this from happening again.?

Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.

In case you didn't fully understand what dallon meant, it means another user account on your computer. You set that up in Windows and then instal iTunes onto that account.
That way, you each have your own desktop and your own itunes. You can link to the songs in the other person's library as well, but you cannot run both iTunes at the same time. (That simply means you need to close it on the first account before opening it on the second account.)

  • How can I transfer a local mailbox to another user account on the same computer?

I have two user accounts on the same computer. I actually never really wanted two accounts, but a second one was generated when I chose to use the Migration Assistant to transfer my account from a previous computer to my current one, and I never did anything to delete the second one. Anyway, I have been using Mac Mail to view my work email messages from a Microsoft Exchange server. Awhile back, I was running out of space on my mail server, and decided to download a bunch of my email messages to local mailboxes in order to free up space.
Recently (for reasons that are not terribly relevant) I have decided to switch between the two user accounts on the computer. I have transfered all of my documents, apps, etc. to the new account. However, I haven't been able to find a way to transfer all the email that is in those local mailboxes, so that they are viewable/usable in the new account. Could somebody suggest the best way for me to do this? I am no longer going to use the old account, so the two do not have to be synced. I just want the mailboxes to be available for the new user account (with the same organizational structure).
I am currently running Mavericks (just upgraded last week).
    Thanks,
    JEG

    A quick update....
I copied the folder in ~Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes that contains all of my local mailboxes over to the same location in the new account. When I go into mail, the entire file structure is there, however it does not let me view (or search) any of the messages. The messages can be accessed through the Finder, though.
I tried to "Rebuild" the local mailboxes, but it didn't seem to do anything. Any advice would be appreciated.

  • How can you add a 2nd i Tunes account on the same computer?

How can you add a 2nd i Tunes account to the same computer?

I had an application where I spawned (= ran with Start Asynchronous Call) multiple (reentrant) copies of VIs, and would occasionally "lose control" of them.  I needed a way to find all VIs that were running "Top Level" and stop them (so I didn't have to log off from Windows).
I used the Application Property "All VIs in Memory" to get an array of (wait for it ...) All VIs in Memory.  I took each name, opened a VI reference to it (simply wire the name string in, as the VI is, by definition, "in memory"), looked at its VI Execution State, and if it was Run Top Level, Invoked the FP.Close and Abort VI Methods.  [To prevent the VI that did all this from "committing Suicide", I compared the name string with the current Call Chain, and did nothing if there was a match].
I think you could adopt this idea to do what you need.

how do I have multiple accounts on the same computer? The idea of ", hold down the option (on a Mac)/ shift (on a PC) key each time you start iTunes" does not seem to work for me. Thanks.

Create multiple Windows User Profile with each managing his own iTunes account and library.
To create a user account on Windows 7:
To open User Accounts, click the Start button , click Control Panel, under 'User Accounts and Family Safety', select Add or Remove User Accounts.
    Click Create a new account.
Type the name you want to give the user account, click an account type(make sure to give Administrator), and then click Create Account.

    M Parker,
Yes, since you are trying to keep things separate, that is exactly what you would do.

  • How can i run 2 i tunes accounts on the same computer without songs duplicating?

my wife and I both have ipods, how do you run an account each on the same computer without files syncing on both ipods/ libraries?

Using More than One iDevice on the Same Computer
This applies mainly to couples who are adding another device and do not want their email, messages, etc. being duplicated on both devices. To begin read: How to use multiple iPhone, iPad, or iPod devices with one computer. You need to establish a separate Apple ID and password for whomever will use the new iDevice. See Apple - My Apple ID and Frequently asked questions about Apple ID. The easiest way is to do this on the computer using iTunes: iTunes- How to set up an Apple ID within iTunes.
On the computer create a new user account for the person with the new iDevice. This will be the user account that person will always use. He/She will no longer use the other user account. This way that person will have a separate iTunes Library
Start by transferring the new device(s) to a new account along with all your data.  Save any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless they are already in the camera roll) by opening your Photos app, tap on Albums icon at the bottom. Now, tap on My Photo Stream album; tap Select; tap on the photos you want to select;, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow) in the lower left corner; then tap Save to Camera Roll.
If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep then you need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself. Later you can copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Tap on Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; the person keeping the current account will not be affected,) provide the password to turn off Find My Phone and choose Keep on My iDevice when prompted.  Sign in with a different Apple ID to create your new account. Choose Merge to upload your data.
Once you are on separate accounts, you can each go to icloud.com and delete the other person's data from your account.

have made substantial changes to improve readability and syntax.
