How do I delete songs in iTunes 7.0?

I installed the new iTunes yesterday and have not been able to figure out how to delete any unwanted songs or videos from my library. I had no problem doing so in the previous version. Is there a diferent way to delete on this version or is this option gone?

How are you trying to delete? Highlight the song in the library and press the delete key, that works for me. Alternatively right click on the song (ctrl - click if using a single button mouse) and choose Delete from the menu. To delete a song from a playlist hold down the option (⌥ ) key and press delete.

  • How do I delete songs from Itunes without losing them in my IPOD?

How do I delete songs from Itunes without losing them in my IPOD? I don't want 11gb of music stored on my computer when I already have it in my Ipod. Anyone have some info?

You can Transfer music manually, then delete the files from the PC without having it sync to the iPod.
    HOWEVER.....
Deleting songs off of iTunes or your computer is a very bad idea unless you have created one or more backup files of all your songs.
Using the iPod as the sole repository of any of your songs is a very risky practice. When (not ‘if’) you need to restore the iPod, return the iPod for service, or it's song files are somehow lost or damaged, you will be re-ripping all your CDs back into iTunes and re-purchasing all your iTMS songs. Restoring the iPod is a common ‘fix’ to many small issues that arise.
If you cannot store your songs on a PC or within iTunes, then you will need to have some storage medium in use (an external hard drive, DVDs or CDs). You should also consider a secondary backup medium for additional safety. Whether you keep your music in iTunes or on an external source – Multiple copies of your music files are a must!
The iPod is really designed to be playback device - not a primary storage device (although it can be used as such), and certainly not as the only storage medium for all your music.
Always backup your PC files: both music and data. Backup as frequently as possible. The usual ‘metric’ is to determine just how much work (hours, days, weeks) or money spent you are willing to repeat by extending out your time between backups. Your choice, your potential headache &/or loss.
Many data-savvy folks have more than one backup and create incremental backups every time they add to or change their Library. Depending on the work I am doing, I may perform several backups during the same day. As they are incremental, and placed on my Backup ExHD – it is a very quick operation to perform several times a day, when needed.
If you are heavily invested in your Library data (Playlists, Play Counts, Ratings, Last Played, Date Added, etc.), then:
it is critical that you also make multiple backups of your ‘iTunes Library.itl’ file.
iTMS REMINDER: While you can always take the time to re-rip the CDs you own to restore your iTunes music, if you lose your iTMS purchased music and have no backups, you will have to re-purchase them. Few exceptions are made to this rule – at least none that I am aware of.
Here is a post on developing a backup strategy:

  • How do I Delete songs from Itunes & Computer at the same time?

I would like to have a song deleted from my computer (sent to recycling bin) everytime I delete the song from ITUNES. How can I do this? When I used MediaMonkey it automaticly did it for me. Thanks for your help.

If you are using iTunes to manage your music and the songs are in the iTunes Music folder then iTunes will give you the option when deleting to remove the songs from the library and send them to the Trash. However if you are keeping the songs in another folder iTunes will only delete them from the library, if you want to completely remove them you have to go to the folder yourself.

  • How do I delete songs in iTunes 7 from my iPod?

I'm having a problem with the new version of iTunes - on my iPod I can't see what songs are on there or manage my music manually. I have the box checked to manage my music manually but I can't actually see any of the songs to delete the ones I no longer want on there. I can't even see any playlists on the iPod.
The only thing I see under the new music tab in iTunes is greyed out playlists from my mac.
Does anyone know how to get in there and delete songs?
    Thanks!

Thanks so much for the answer!

  • How can I delete songs from iTunes but keep them on my phone?

I want to delete songs off of my computr because it's taking up unnecessary space, but how can I do this without them being removed from my iPhone when I sync it next?

As given, removing from the library causes the songs to be removed during sync. So the space taken up is neccessary... What would you do if your iPhone where lost, stolen, damaged or needed to be restored?
If you ned more room for storage buy a bigger drive. In fact buy two, one to use as a backup for your library and all your other important files.

  • How do you delete songs on iTune that are NOT on the library?

I got a new computer few days ago, and I downloaded iTune on my new computer today.
I want to delete all my songs that are in my iPod Touch now, and want to buy other songs.
I don't have any songs in my library at the moment, since there's no song in my new computer now.
So I want to delete songs, but since I don't have any of those songs in the library, I can't delete them. (I can't delete them since they are not on the library.)
Are there any ways I can delete songs that are NOT on the library?

You don't want to keep the songs that are on your iPod touch, in your library?
You can keep them in your library and not put them on the touch.
Then you can purchase other songs and put those on the touch.

  • How do i delete songs using iTunes from macbook pro

i synced my iphones to a new i tunes library and now i have three unwated songs how do i delete them?

"Ok- but what if I want to manually manage the songs and podcasts on my iPhone and somehow loose access to the computer which I used to put said songs and podcasts on the iPhone in the first place?"
The you would ned to use the backup copy of tht computer to put everything on the new computer.
"  Is there a way in which I can manage/delete the content on the iPhone using my new computer without retoring it to factory settings and starting all over again?"
You do not have to restore it, but you cannot access the music at all from this other computer until you sync it, which will erase the content.
"And just to clarify: I don't have any problems with playing the content that remains on my iPhone, it's just the managing and deleting of this content."
    I understand completely.
You need to copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

  • How to easily delete songs from itunes that won't sync?

I just bought my first ipod (a 32Gb Touch), however I have been using itunes for about two years and have about 4100 songs in itunes.
After my initial install years ago, I tested the sync with a friends ipod. Now there are about 100 of these songs in itunes that were his, which prompt me that they can't sync everytime I sync my Touch.
I would like to just delete them, but I don't see any way to sort or select these 100 songs in a group to delete them and I dread the idea of going through my large song list and deleting them one at a time.
Does anyone have an easier way of mass selecting and deleting songs that won't sync? I wish itunes would let me do thins right from the list it was showing me, but no luck.
    Thanks!

Sort by *Date Added* and they should all be at the same place in the list.

  • HT204406 How to restore deleted songs from iTunes Match?

I thought I was deleting a couple of things from iTunes Match, but somehow deleted a bunch of others. I know, I know, silly me. Anyway, I still have most of the items I deleted on another Mac, but they're shown with a cloud symbol with an X in it. I'd like to get those things stupidly deleted back on iTunes Match, instead of only on one Mac...that is, also on my iPhone and iPad. I appreciate any advice.

Up till your message, I was under impression that once you uploaded music to itunes match, the only way to reset it, is to contact apple to cancel service. You can probably download those back if they disappeared from one device, or even all of them.

  • How to recover deleted songs from iTunes hard drive (not iPod)

I have a Western Digital hard drive that I use to play all of my mp3 files. Tonight I was creating a playlist by dragging and dropping songs. Although I thought I was editing the playlist, it turns out that I accidently deleted a song from my library ("MUSIC").
Now anytime that I delete something from the external hard drive, it ends up in the recycling bin on my desktop. But that does not seem to be the case with songs that I delete from the "MUSIC" library on my hard drive.
I'm confused. When I accidently deleted this song, where did it go? The folder containing the mp3 file is gone, it is no longer in iTunes and it never appeared in the Recycling Bin. In the past whenever I've accidently deleted a song, I simply went to the Recycling Bin and clicked on "Restore File".
Does anyone know where to find the missing file(s) and how to restore them to my 'MUSIC' folder in iTunes?
Note that this has nothing to do with my iPod, but rather the external hard drive associated with my PC.
Thanking everyone in advance who can help!
    Chad

How I wish it were that simple.
My Recycling Bin is empty, which is what is perplexing. Just to see if this function was working properly I deleted a song from the LIBRARY and guess what? It appeared in the Recycling Bin.
Its a mystery what has happened to these songs.
This has happened on several occassions. I waited years for a few rare songs to come out in digital because only vinyl copies existed. When Apple finally reached a licensing agreement to sell these songs, I downloaded them and created a playlist. Somehow the playlist disappeared including all of the songs from the library. I didn't think anything of it because I thought that I could simply go to iTunes, select PURCHASED songs and add them. To my suprise iTunes does not have a history of my purchase.
Finally, after much trouble back and forth with Apple customer support they sent me a link for two of the most recent songs that I downloaded, but the ones that I downloaded a year or more in the past.
The whole entire scenario has left me scratching my head.

  • How do I delete songs from iTunes Match while keeping them in my computer's iTunes library?

So I know I'm not the only one with this problem, but I can't seem to find an answer specifically relevant to my issue. I have a playlist on my computer entitled "Christmas Music" in which I store all of my holiday songs (about 64 songs out of over 6,000). Now that the Christmas season is over, I no longer want to listen to these songs, so I have unchecked them all in my iTunes library. However, because I am subscribed to iTunes Match, the songs all still play when I have my music shuffled on my phone—iTunes Match apparently doesn't care whether they are checked in your library or not; it will still sync them across all your devices and play them during shuffle mode regardless.
The solution would be for me to somehow remove these particular songs from iCloud so they no longer play in iTunes Match. However, I would still like to have the songs in my iTunes library so that I could listen to them again in the future during the appropriate time of year. I can only seem to find instructions on how to delete the songs permanently from both my iTunes Library and iCloud, when all I really want to do is delete them from iCloud.
Is there a way for me to do this that doesn't involve permanently losing any of my songs? Please help.

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:

  • How to retrieve deleted songs from itunes albums list

    hi,
In my itunes library I've got several albums. Since a long time (me or someone else arround me) have deleted randomly some tracks from some albums. So these songs are no more available in iTunes list (xml file) nor in the hard disk. All the scripts I've found on the net cannot help me to get ths list of removed tracks.
My question is : "Is there a script or software able to retreive the list of missing song in each album I've in my iTunes application (macintosh) ? I think that thi magic script should perhaps query the CDDB database or someting like that.
    Any help would be appreciated

Unless you have a copy of a .xml file with the play lists contents before deleteing - your are outta luck.
Even if you have a .xml file the actual files - from your discription - have been deleted from the HD - hence you will need to add those tunes back into iTunes - then add those tunes back into the PL.

  • I would like to be able to delete songs in itunes

How can I delete songs in Itunes.
I would like a clean delete in the Itunes playlist
also in itunes recent added musik file and also on my HD.
Itunes stores and is in charge of its own music folder
    on an external HD.
If I delete a song in the playlist it does not ask or
do anything it just deletes the link in the playlist.

It's actually much better to delete songs directly from iTunes:
    image link: http://img513.imageshack.us/img513/493/deletefileinitunestq4.jpg
The reason for doing it through iTunes is that iTunes will then have perfect control over what files are in the library. Otherwise you may end up with these "broken links". Files that have the after them, and iTunes can't find them.

  • How do i delete songs from my iphone when they don't show up in itunes? Swiping across the song on the iphone does not give me a delete button.

How do i delete songs from my iphone when they don't show up in itunes? Swiping across the song on the iphone does not give me a delete button.

    Hello audreywisc,
Songs can be removed from your iPhone by tapping 'Songs,' then swiping the song, then tapping Delete.
Remove a song from iPhone. Tap Songs, swipe the song, then tap Delete. The song is deleted from iPhone, but not from your iTunes library on your Mac or PC, or from iCloud.
