How do i delete the primary email address associated with my apple id?

My husband deleted the Outlook email account that was associated with my Apple ID as the primary email. I have two alternate emails also associated with the same Apple ID. How can I delete the old, Outlook email and use one of the alternates as a primary? I have tried to do this under "manage my account," but there is no option to delte the primary and select one of the alternates in its place.
I also cannot receive confirmation emails from Apple at the old, primary email address because it has been terminated. Other Apple help posts indicated this could be a problem, as I need that old account to receive emails pertaining to a switch.

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

You can change the primary e-mail address associated with your Apple ID, so long as it isn't a mac, me or icloud email.

Your Apple ID account, regardless of the primary email, can never be 'deleted', just abandoned.
You could always just switch between the two Apple IDs as needed, to access the different purchases.

Now when I go to App store on my iPad it still tries to login to the App store using the old email address I had associated with the account, and naturally my password doesn't work. I can't figure out how to tell my iPad to login using the updated email address.
So in effect I'm locked out of the app store and I currently have 26 updates waiting.
I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting my IPad to iCloud with no luck.. However I cloud happens to show the correct/updated email address.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?

Did you change the email for the Apple ID or did you create a new Apple ID? A new Apple ID cannot be used with content that was bought using a different Apple ID.

To be clear, I know how to change my Apple ID, but I don't know how to change the primary @me address associated with it. I have seen many people reply about setting up aliases through icloud as well responses that continue to explain how to change your Apple ID. I do not want to change my Apple ID. I want to change the @me email address associated with it.

See the FAQ - http://support.apple.com/kb/HE37 cannot be done for those special cases of @mac.com and @me.com addresses. You can add a secondary address to the AppleID if you no longer use or receive mail at the primary, but those primary cannot be altered.

Go to http://appleid.apple.com and click 'Manage your account'. You will be able to change the non-Apple email address you use as a login. You will then need to log out and in again on all your devices.

Naturally, my username was my email address, let's say [email protected] I signed up for an @me email address when they started just to try it out, but never used it. I want to set up a different icloud address, one that I would actually use, let's say [email protected] Then, I would like to associate that address with my Apple ID and delete the oldaddress@icloud address altogether. Since your Apple ID is already associated with the current iCloud account (and the account cannot be delete, it can only be abandoned), you can't use it to create another. You would need to create a new Apple ID with a new non-Apple email address to create a new iCloud account. You can still use your current ID for everything else; the iCloud ID does not need to be the same as the ID you use for other services (iTunes, etc.).
You would then have to migrate your iCloud data to the new account and turn on your iCloud data syncing. When you turn Mail to On, you can create your new @icloud email address (but type carefully since once created it cannot be changed). You @me iCloud email address would remain associated with the iCloud account you are leaving but it sounds like you don't want to use it anyway. You can set up email forwarding to forwared email sent to your @me address to your new @icloud address while your contacts transition to your new address.
If that sounds like something you want to do, I can give you the steps to migrate your data to the new account.

It sounds like you want to change your Apple ID. Follow the steps in this link to do so:
Before you change your Apple ID:
Sign out of all Apple features and services that you use with your current Apple ID.
Make sure that the email address you want to use for your Apple ID meets these conditions:
The email address is one that you use regularly, because it will be the primary email address for your Apple ID.
The email address is not associated with any other Apple ID.
The email address is not an iCloud email address, which is already an Apple ID. iCloud email addresses end with @icloud.com, @me.com, or @mac.com.
To change your Apple ID, follow these steps:
Go to My Apple ID (appleid.apple.com), click "Manage your Apple ID", and sign in.
If you have two-step verification turned on, you'll be asked to send a verification code to the trusted device associated with your Apple ID. If you are unable to receive messages at your trusted device, follow the guidelines for what to do if you can't sign in with two-step verification.

Right, if the Apple ID is already set up, then you cannot change it to None until you put a credit card on the account.
If you set up a brand new Apple ID by first downloading a Free app, and then setting up the ID as a part of that process, then it can be None.

Help. My old @us.army.mil email address was terminated by the army. I used that address to register my first apple id account on my iPad. I can't remember my original Apple ID number and if I ask to reset my password, Apple sends the reset link to my old non-working email address. I have a new gmail address and a new Apple ID number associated with that address. How do I get my iPad to use my new gmail address and new apple ID number? Remember, I can't log out of my old account because I can't remember the password. Amd Apple will only reset the password by sending a link to my old, non functioning army email account. When I go to ICal it asks for the username and password which I no longer have. The calendar is still on my phone (even though the email account is on my phone but doesn't work) Is there a way to copy my calendar to a different email address on my iphone? I have now set the default email account for the calendar to a current email address but I still can't figure out how to merge my iphone calendars, copy the iphone calendar to iCal, or save my iphone calendar to my mac. Also, I read in ITunes to check "sync to ICal" but my ITunes under my iphone and info just says "Sync Calendars" which doesn't transfer it to iCal when I sync my phone.

You can have multiple addresses associated with your apple id. You will have to verify any changes before they can be added and this is done by sending you an email. This is to protect you from someone else makeing changes to your account.
