How do I delete unused window spaces in Mission Control with Mountain Lion?
When I open an application to full-window size (opening a new "space" in mission control), the "space" does not close when I terminate the application. Instead, the space remains blank. There are no options to remove or open an application, and I cannot remove the empty space in mission control. When I re-open the same program, it creates a new space. Now I have 11 spaces and only 4 of them are usable/not blank.
How do I delete the blank ones?
JonRow, Look familiar?
And when I did try and swipe through full screen apps I briefly got this. See image below. (note the menu bar icons top right)
Before going to a blank grey screen.
If the problem comes back I will tru the killall dock command.
Cheers

How do I add spaces in mission control in mountain lion?
I use an external monitor on the right side of my mbp, the external monitor (when in use) is my main screen. I want my (auto retracting) dock on the right side of my right screen (the external one). The top right corner is my hot corner for mission control.
With this setup, when I move my mouse to the right top corner I'll enter mission control, but somehow the "add a new space pop-up button" will not show up. I haven't tried this setup in Lion so I do not know if this is a bug for ML. I really like my dock on the right side of the screen, left is no option and I'm sick of having it at the bottom, but I do want to be able to add spaces, any thoughts how to do this?multiple ways,
go to mission control and:
hold option, a half of a desktop with a plus will appear, click it.
drag an application's window next to the spaces there are already.
put an app in fullsreen mode.
move mouse over the top left side of the screen, and the desktop with the plus sign will appear to add a new space. -
Indesign cs6 menu and tool bar disappear between windows using mission control in mountain lion
heres 2 screen grabs before and after. while navigating between 'spaces' using mission control in mountain lion. issue - the menu and tools bars disappear - not all of them just parts of them. to get back i hit 'tab' button twice which hides and shows tools. very annoying - does anyone know of a fix or is this another bug which i have to live with. im using a macpro june 2012/running 10.8.4 and 2 screens - left for artboard - right for all tool windows.
thanks steve - yes that works as does using the tab key - all well....until i move to another 'space' and then come back again.
for example: my setup is like this - no2 space has indesign project. no3 space has photoshop. so im working on a page within indesign and i need to edit an image- i double click the pic and it opens in photoshop on the other 'space' save the file and go back to indesign to update pic and find menu/tools all over the place - so hit tab twice back to normal - until i 'move' out of that space into another - photoshop/ mail/ whatever - as i toggle between spaces the indesign menu will always be 'corrupt' for a better word. hope that makes sense. -
How do I use the AirPlay Mirroing on my mac with Mountain Lion ?
How do I use the AirPlay Mirroing on my mac with Mountain Lion ?
I watched the video about Mountain Lion, but the airplay icon can't appear on my menu bar.
WHY ?i have a MacBook Air (Early 2011)
and it doesn't support the airplay mirroring ,,, the only things that the failed to do is " MENTION IT "
it wouldn't hurt anyone if they just say it's limited to Late macs ,,,, i really wanted that feature and i updated my mac so i can watch movies on my HD screen ,,,,
i hope they made and update for it ,,, otherwise i have to wait another 4 months to get a new macbook pro -
The tap to click does not work with mountain lion as it did before the mountain lion install. I purchased a brand new imac in August of 2011 and got a wireless keyboard and selected the wireless trackpad instead of a mouse. The trackpad worked wonderful pre upgrade with tap to click. Now after the install of the newest beast, I have to actually press the trackpad rather than a slight tap. I have carpel tunnel and this is causing great stress upon my hand. How do I get apple to fix this major issue with mountain lion?
Perhaps, I was not clear enough.
I have an imac purchased in Aug. 2011 which came with Lion 10.6 (two uprades before mountain lion)
Recently, I just purchased a macbook pro retina with Mountain Lion
On my imac, my settings allowed me to "tap to click" everything EXCEPT the initial log in at the star up of my imac, again running Lion 10.6
On my macbook pro retina which has Mountain Lion, I set up the "tap to click" option, but notice that a "hard" click was neccessary when trying to click things. I thought this was a macbook thing (my first one) so I went and upgraded my imac to Mountain LIon, BIG MISTAKE! Now both my imac AND my macbook only have limited "tap to click" options. Before mountain lion I could "tap" to highlight and select text, tap and drag, and many other thiings that Mountain Lion has disabled.
I am truly surprised that no one has noticed this MAJOR issue.
Is there a way to uninstall this update, similar to how on a PC you can go back to a restore point.
On another note even the way PREVIEW has changed is less user friendly, there used to be icons on the bottom right corner of the screen, now I have to double tap and select the option I would like to switch between contacts and thumbnails. This is really annoying and is causing me time when reviewing files.
Just in case anyone was wondering, I did go to system preferences -> trackpad -> select tap to click
In fact almost all of the trackpad functions have been selected. -

How can I make my first generation AirPort Express work with Mountain Lion? I have a 13" MacBook Pro (non-retina).
Hi guys, recently had the same issue. You require an older version of Airport Utility to configure the older Airport Express. It can be found here.

How do I have two windows open side by side in Mountain Lion
I want to open two windows side by side for comparison purposes. Can anyone tell me how to do this please? BUT when I input something into one window, I don't want the other window to close. I know this can be done on my Windows laptop but I'm now using Mountain Lion on a new Mac - maybe it's something I have to learn to do without.
Any help would most appreciated.
Thanks Sue.You want to have two browser windows open at the same time?
In Safari, just type command + n, and a new Safari window will open. You can use either window independently.
(Trust I have understood your question.) -
How do you make a startup disk for Mac Pro with mountain lion
My Mac Pro did not come with a disk how do you make one or get one??
If you ever need to repair or reformat your hard drive you need one!If you still have - or can download - the Lion Installer app from the Mac App Store, you'll find an app titled "Install Mac OS Mountain Lion.app" in your Applications folder. If it's not there, and you've already purchased it, just go to the MAS, look under your Purchases tab and download it from there. If you haven't already purchased it, you'll need to do so using your Apple ID.
Once you have the installation app, get a 8GB+ USB flash drive and download DiskMaker X - just plug in the flash drive, start up DiskMaker X and follow the instructions. You'll now have a bootable installation disk.
Good luck,

How can I manage an older airport express base station with Mountain Lion?
This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support."
I tried to install AirPort Utility 5.6 on my Mac OSX 10.8 Mac Book and it will not allow me to. How do I manage my "older" airport? The 5.6 version can be installed but it does take an alternative route to do so. For example, you can use a utility like Pacifist to first extract the utility, and then, move it to the Utilities folder. Once "installed" by this method, it runs just fine on Mountain Lion.

Thanks much, just don't see it when I try to "save as" a pages document...
Sorry, clicking my old 08 icon was the problem. Found the 09 book manual and it works (from another commenter). Just not as user friendly as the "save as" function on a word document. First time Microsoft has trumped Mac yet.

Windows files with Mountain Lion
Do I still need MacFuse and/or NTFS-3G to read/write Windows files from my MBA with Mountain Lion?
install osxfuse (current 2.5.0)
(not macfuse which is no longer maintained)
https://github.com/osxfuse/osxfuse/downloads
install ntfs-3g (most recent binary 2010.10.2)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/catacombae/
free version old-ish but ok-ish (gives an ignorable but annoying warning
"Did not receive a signal within 15.000000 seconds." on every mount ). -

HT200158 How do you to access Microsoft windows 7 files systems from OSX mountain lion
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4697 describes how to enable access to Microsoft windows file systems from an OSX lion system.
Mountain lion does not have this entry.
Now that I have a mac with Mountain LIon installed,
how do acces the files on a Microsoft windows 7 system that I have previously accessed?Well as I pointed out in my post, "Sadly, my Text Edit documents are still all there, every single time I opened them and made a small change, there is another copy stretching all the way back to the day I installed Mountain Lion." so if you can explain to me how July 26 - Aug 16 is a week, I will concede that it is a good idea. Short of that, no I have been capable of making my own backups since I was 16 years old (16 years ago) I don't need my computer to endlessly do it for me in a way I am completely unable to shut off. That's what I have external hard drives, flash drives, a DVD burner, Drop Box, E-mail (as in emailing copies to myself) and icloud for. If I am doing something and I don't have access to a single one of those options, I don't know why I brought my computer with me in the first place. And I don't see how you can say it's an illusory gain in disk space, hundreds of copies of text documents, garageband files, Final Cut files, Motion Files and basically any program that makes files onto my comptuer that I can myself make incremental changes to, those all need to be stored somehow. Again, if you can explain to me how July 26 - Aug 16 is a week, I will agree with you that that is a good thing because IF it only saved for a week, it wouldn't be an issue. Sadly, no matter how many links you post, I still have text edit backups stretching from today back to July 26. They're not going away and I have no reason to beleive any other file I edit is going to go away either since they haven't been. They're all there eating up HD space and this imaginary "week" limit is simply not coming into effect. I hate it and there needs to be a simple way to simply shut it off. I didn't spend hundreds of dollars on external drives just for my main hard drive to be filled up with hundreds un useless, undeletable backups of stuff I already have backed up.
