How do I determine what connection type I have?

After almost a year of spotty service and lots of time spent on the phone with tech support, an AT&T tech came to our house and set up our dsl modem in a bedroom on the same side of the house where the lines feed in from the street. That modem hooks into the phone jack in the wall, and the desktop is plugged into a power outlet (using an adapter the technician gave us) on the other side of the house. He said that our signal now runs on the electrical wiring rather than on the phone line. We can use the adapter to plug the desktop or other corded device into any electrical outlet in the house now, and our service is perfect. Super fast and never out.
When we attempted to hook up the WRT54GS, we hooked it into the adapter where the desktop lives, then connected the desktop to the router. All the right lights were on, the connection icon in the bottom taskbar showed a strong signal, but we still get a windows message saying the signal can't be connected. I'm thinking that our unusual internet signal is something other than the default setting on the router and that is what's causing our problem.
Has anyone experienced and solved similar?
Thanks so much. . .

What you have is In-House Broadband over PowerLines (BPL). This is a new technology that I think is exremely cool. It runs at 500 kilobits to 3 megabits. im guessing that you live in one of the cities that they are trying it out. As far as setting up your router to that technology I have no idea. This link will take you to a router that is specifically designed for BPL http://www.niroda.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=159&Itemid=153. I hope that this was a little bit helpful.

Another option to consider is to install the last Firefox 10.0.x ESR version as that version is more recent than the Firefox 16.0.2 version.

  • How can I determine what software version I have in my Apple TV module?

My Apple TV usually hangs up when I am watching a movie on Netflix whether its one foot from my internet hub or in the next room. When I stream using an HDMI cable connected directly to my computer (which is hardwired to the hub) there is no problem. Could it be an outdated software version in the Apple TV module? How does one tell what software version he has and then how do I update it if required?
    Any help is appreciated.

  • How do I determine which battery type I have?

    Hello Everyone,
Is there a way of determining which battery model I have in my unibody 13" Macbook Pro?
I know there are different models like A1185, MA561, MA566 etc.
I didn't see any of these numbers listed in the system profiler.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This looks like it's the A1322.

  • How can I determine what the type actually is?

I already posted this in "Java Programming", so I apologize if you are reading it for the second time.
I'm a CS3 student coding a data structure that uses generics. One of my methods has a possibility of much nicer results than the default if the type happens to be Character. I have been trying to figure out a way to test if the type is Character, but I can't find how to do this. Here are some things I've tried:
    1. Stuff that works with variables but not types, like
if (E instanceof Character)        // does not compile
if (E extends Character)            // does not compile2. Something suggested by someone in "Java Programming":
if (E.class extends Character) // does not compile 3. Something along these lines:
    E testOb;
if (testOb instanceof Character)The last one won't work because either I don't intialize testOb, in which case it won't compile, or I initialize it to null, in which case it will always evaluate to false anyway.
It seems there must be a way to do this. Anyone?

If your project is heavily concerned with Generics then you might want to have a look at this extremely comprehensive FAQ:
    http://www.angelikalanger.com/GenericsFAQ/JavaGenericsFAQ.html
I learn best by reading technical documents from beginning to end so that's what I am doing (just about halfway through). It's nearly 500 pages in its PDF version so you may or may not want to do it my way.

  • How do I determine what the default font for equations is?

In the Equation Fonts dialog box, we can set the font of Functions, Numbers, Strings, and Variables.  In those dropdown lists, there is a Default (para) Font choice.  How do I determine what font that is?  What paragraph tag is associated with an equation?
With all the choices set to default, numbers types in the equation look similar (but not exact) to the Symbol font, but of course typing letters in the Symbol font reveal greek characters.  So is it some derivation of Symbol?

Thanks.  That .cfg file shows Times Regular for the following characters, but none of these characters are the regular alphabet, (are they?) so there must be yet another place?
    mathchar.cfg    53      < plus        2b Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    54      < equal       3d Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    70      < gg          c8 Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    71      < ll          c7 Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    93      < fact        21 Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    94      < dagger      a0 Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    98      < minus       d0 Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    106      < uequal      3d Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    112      < diff        64 Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    116      < ucomma      2c Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    117      < semicolon   3b Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    118      < optotal     64 Times Regular>
    mathchar.cfg    127      < power       5e Times Regular>
I've determined (by comparing equation string to body string visually) that Times is in fact the font being used.  I just don't see yet how that gets determined.  Any further thoughts?

  • How do I determine what version of Apache I'm using?

How do I determine what version of Apache, 1.3 or 2.0, I'm using?

If you're using the stock Apache, it's 1.3 on regular OS X. I think it's Apache 2 on OS X Server, but I'm not certain.
If you're asking because you've installed Apache 2, but want to make sure it's the one that's running and not the stock Apache, one way to tell is to examine the headers it returns. This Terminal command will show your headers (just enter it and hit the "return" key):
    <pre class="command">curl -I http://localhost</pre>
    Here's what I get:
    <pre class="command">HTTP/1.1 200 OK

    Server: Apache/1.3.33 (Darwin) PHP/5.2.0 mod_perl/1.29
    Content-Type: text/html</pre>
As you can see, I have the stock Apache, but I've installed PHP5.

  • How can I determine what dns server the wifi client use within airport

How can I determine what dns server the wifi client use within airport
I want to use dns servers other then the one that airport extreme is using. For example I got the 172.16.1.1 (the default gateway - airport extreme), but I want to use the office dns servers, that are in a 10.x.x.x range.
    Is there a possibility?
    Thanks and happy eastern

The Airport Extreme uses the DNS servers assigned by the network that it connects to. Is you Airport Extreme on the 10.x.x.x network? if it is then you are already using the 10.x.x.x DNS servers. Check your Airport Extreme with the Airport Utility and you will see in the Internet tab, the DNS servers used. The devices connecting to the Airport Extreme are assigned a DNS address of the Airport Extremes IP, In your case 172.16.1.1 but all DNS searches and resolution are done with the DNS servers you see in the Airport Extreme.
If you want to use some other DNS then you can override in the Airport Extreme which will be used by all devices connecting too the Airport Extreme, Or you can edit the DNS address in each devices wireless settings.

  • Mailexample.sql how do you determine the file type?

I'm using the mailexample.sql which explains how to use the demo_mail wrapper package for utl_smtp. There's a procedure for attaching text files and a procedure for attaching binary files. I've got binary files to attach to email successfully.
How can I determine the file type so that I can use the attach_text procedure when attaching text files rather than the procedure for attaching binary files?
    Sandy

Watch out! I think there is a bug in that code :-
    bug with PL/SQL Sample - maildemo.sql
To answer your question - the usual way of determining a file type is to look for 'magic numbers' in the file that indicate its type. For example, Windows exe files often (always?) begin with the two letters 'MZ'. Zip files begin with 'PK'; Rar archives begin with 'Rar!'. Text files can begin with anything, and do not have any characteristic marker, but USASCII7 (which is what the format that routine is designed for - I think), is a characterset that only uses the first 7 bits of the byte. You could read the file, and if you find any bytes > 127, then you know it is not a USASCII7 file. I have seen various programs that 'sample' the first 64 or 256 bytes of a file instead of reading the whole file, and they usually get it right.
    Hope this helps.

If "Turn off Home Sharing ([accountname]) is listed as an option, the iTunes library that you have open is Home Sharing.

  • How Do I Determine What WUDFHost.exe is Doing and What It's Associated With?

Since around the time of the installation of Win 8.1 Update 1 I've had a couple of new WUDFHost.exe processes that run all the time.  Today I saw one of them accessing data on a backup volume, which I assume was some kind of maintenance
activity - but I'm not sure.
    My question is this:
How can I determine what these processes are doing, why they're here, and what they're associated with (i.e., what feature or device has caused them to be running).  I don't suspect them of causing a specific problem - my system's running fine
    - but I want to know why they're running.
Process Explorer shows them to have been started by these two command lines:
    "C:\Windows\System32\WUDFHost.exe" -HostGUID:{193a1820-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-be817523f6aa} -IoEventPortName:HostProcess-ae18c507-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-ce7a84b73fb2 -SystemEventPortName:HostProcess-76f2d2b0-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-25de41b0af65 -IoCancelEventPortName:HostProcess-52988628-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-54018fc05bec

As you can see, their function isn't obvious from what's showing.
What tools can I used to delve further into what these are and why they're here?
Thanks for any help or wisdom you can offer.

  • How can I determine what is the minimum SCN number I need to restore up to.

Say if I have a full database backup, I know I have file inconsistency, but I want to know what is the minimum time or SCN number a need to roll forward to in order to be able to open the database?
For example: I do a database restore.

I need need to apply archive log files. All references I find for ORA-00194 state the solution is to "apply more logs until the file is consistent " But "HOW MANY LOGS", or more apporaite up to what time or SCN? How does one determine what TIME or SCN is required to get all file consistent?
I thought this query might provide the answer, but it doesn't

I've discover I need to apply archive logs until this query reports all datafiles as FUZZY=NO , but this only works by guessing at some time periord to roll forward to, then checking the FUZZY column, and try again. Is there a way to know, I have to roll forward to a specific SNC in order for all my datafiles to be consistent?

    Jason

The minimum point in time is the time when the last backup piece for datafiles in that backup was completed.
Your alert.log should show the redo log sequence number at that time.
You can query V$ARCHIVED_LOG and get the FIRST_CHANGE# of the first archivedlog generated after that backup piece completed.
    A
LIST BACKUP;in RMAN should also show you the SCNs at the time of the backups.
You can also query SCN_TO_TIMESTAMP -- eg
select timestamp_to_scn(to_timestamp('15-MAR-09 09:24:01','DD-MON-RR HH24:MI:SS')) from dual;will return an approximation of the SCN.
