How do I directly install Mountain Lion Server?
I'd like to upgrade my Lion Mac Mini Server to Mountain Lion. Currently I'd have to update it to 10.8 Client, then on the server, install the Server app. Is there anyway to consolidate those two steps into one? I'd like to directly install 10.8 Server so I could perform remote setup of the server in one step. Is that possible?
From what I understand, you would need to update the OS X Lion Server to the 10.8 Client version followed by the OS X 10.8 Server Add-on. I am not too sure if Apple is providing an unified step for this kind of procedure.

How do I re-install Mountain Lion on a new hard drive (replacement)?
I have an older iMac 24" (2007) that has been up-graded to Mountain lion. I want to replace my hard drive with a bigger one (has 500Gb). How can I re-install Mountain Lion on my new drive? I have Time Machine on this machine.
Install 10.6 and 10.8 onto the new drive exactly how you did it on the old drive, except that you won't need to pay to redownload 10.8. Alternatively, if you kept a copy of the 10.8 installer, you can just rerun it.

How do I re-install mountain lion if my macbook air is in this state?
I just now had the bright idea of restoring my mac and wiping it clean. I'm currently in the start-up process and I can't re-install mountain lion because I never bought it. I bought this macbook air from an aquaintence last year. How do I upgrade to mountain lion if my mac is like this? Is this issue really as simple as upgrading?

The software on the macbook was the most recent. It had already been upgraded to mountain lion by the previous owner.
Does the original owner or yourself have a Snow Leopard istall disc? I'm guessing no.
Unfortunately it looks like my situation has worsened. I'll click re-install mountain lion then continue and a message saying "to download and restore os x, your computer's eligibility will be verified with apple." I'll click continue and another message will appear saying something like "could not install to drive please contact applecare." I am no longer being asked to enter my apple id or password. I fear this is a "you have tried x amount of times so you are now locked out" situation. Thanks to both of you for responding so soon!
That I'm not sure of. If it were me I'd still buy a copy of SL as it's cheap and partition the hard drive so I have two OS on the same disc, (make the SL partiton about 25GB). You can use one to trouble shoot the other sometimes. It also means you can boot from DVD which I like. -
HT1338 How do I re-install Mountain Lion in my iMac?
I have the latest iMac 27" that I got last December. I was wondering how I go about re-installing the IOS that is on the hard drive.
With OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, you just need OS X Recovery to reinstall OS X and do more things like restore Time Machine backups, repair drives, reset user passwords... See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4718
To reinstall OS X, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start in OS X Recovery, and reinstall OS X -
Can't install Mountain Lion Server
I have decided to use Mac OSX Server for a home network of computers. I have a 3 year old iMac running Mountain lion and downloaded Server from the Apple Store. Each time I try to install it, I get a message saying it cannot connect to the server.
I have tried repairing the permission, turning off the firewall and running applejack.
It still will not install the server. If you have more than one user account, these instructions must be carried out as an administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select "/var/log/install.log" from the file list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the last installation or update attempt, starting from the time when you initiated it. If you're not sure when that was, start over and note the time. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting. -
How do I install mountain lion server
I have a Mini server with 10.7 that I am migrating to 10.8. I wish to put 10.7 on another device that does not support 10.8 but I do not know how to do it. In the apple store I can see 10.8 server and I was able to unhide 10.6 but I cannot find 10.7. Any suggestions? I cannot see where I could buy it even if I wanted to.
PaulHi Paul
You can still download Lion (and the Server App for Lion) from the App Store by calling Apple Sales (in the US this would be 1-800-692-7753) and paying for a redemption code. I think it's $20? I'm not sure what number you call outside of the US? Apple's Service & Support page may help?
http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
If I've understood your post correctly you may not have to do any of the above?
"I wish to put 10.7 on another device that does not support 10.8 but don't know how to do it?"
Assuming your existing 10.7 Server is still active why can't you target disk mode (over firewire) the device that does not support 10.8 and either use CarbonCopyCloner or use Disk Utility to restore? When you're happy migrate to 10.8.

They are not on the system as it is. you need to use the Recovery HD partition to do the download to an external drive and then when the system goes to Reboot to start the actual install of Mt Lion on that external you Disconnect that external so the install doesn't start.
Then once you boot back into the OS on the internal drive you Reconnect the external and use the program linked to in the above reply to Create a Mt Lion Install DVD or USB thumb drive. -
Fresh Install of Mountain Lion how do I export users from Lion Server
I've been having some issues with Lion Server, mainly Kerberos related and Profile Manager. So I want to start fresh with Mountain Lion.
I've installed ML and Server, and profile manager is working now for the first time (yay!)
Now I want to Import all my existing Open Directory users from Lion, I don't want to Import the entire OD though because I think some of my kerberos issues will just get carried over to ML.
I would like to just export the Users to a file then use ML server to import users from file, but I can't see an option to export in Lion Server, I have tried doing it from WGM on Lion but the 'users' file is not recognised by ML serverGreat thanks for the reply, I'll try it tonight when everyone has logged off.
Yeah I was very pleased initially with kerberos on Lion, it worked great to start with, now I'm just getting expired tickets for a default realm when some users log in, yet other users continue to work fine.
I was planning to slowly install Mountain Lion Server and test is thouroghly but I've had a bit of a disaster that if forcing me to go live with ML server quicker than I wanted to!
Basically because on Lion Server I have all the Service Data on a separate drive, and I upgraded to ML server on a backup copy of Lion Server just to see what it was like, though now I've rebooted the original Lion drive but half of the services are now screwwed up because the ML Server must have changed them, so things like Wiki Server and Profile Manager are now broken from the Lion Server boot, they just show "Error Reading Settings"
I realise now I should have moved the Service data back to the local drive before doing a test upgrade so I wouldn't have messed it up! but now it seems like my best way forward is a fresh install of ML Server -
Mail Server problems with Mountain Lion Server
Well, I don't see a section here for Mountain Lion yet so I'll ask here. I installed Mountain Lion Server and for the most part everything is working well. I am have issues with the Mail Server though. As long as I dissable everthing but the Blacklist filter all works fine. If I enable Junk Mail or Virus filters I get this:
postfix/smtp[52062]: connect to 127.0.0.1[127.0.0.1]:10024: Connection refused
From doing some serching it seems to have something to do with amavisd but I don't think it is installed on my system. If it is I can't seem to find it. Should it be installed with the Server Software?
I'm really lost here so any help would be great.

server:~ delsup$ -
I am having to many crashes on my Mountain Lion (upgraded from Snow Leopard) and want to reinstall Mountain Lion and see if this doesn't work. My Mac crashed about once or twice a week and most recently this caused my Outlook for Mac to be corrupted. Tied to rebuild DB but it is not working.
How can I fresh install Mountain Lion removing all from my HDD and recovering my data safely?Found my old Mail, so basically back to normal.
However had two crashes since I've done everything and now I am concerned that my Mac issue might be hardware related:

IMessages in Mountain Lion Server
All,
Our company just upgraded our Apple Lion server to Mountain Lion server and I would like to setup our users iMessage (or iChat) client using their Active Directory credentials. I have bound the server to Active Directory and i'm able to use most Apple server services with our AD accounts, but not iMessage. I know this was possible in Lion server but i'm not sure how to do it on Mountain Lion server. And if it's possible, i would like to have their buddy lists auto populate and list all the employee's names. Any help would be appreciated.
ThanksAre you talking about the account on the client computer or the server? We have all our client computers bound to AD but i have the server logged in as a local account. Even though the server is logged in as a local account, all other services work properly with AD.

Mountain Lion Server: Wiki and Profile Manager return 'Error Reading Settings'
Hi,
Have recently installed Mountain Lion Server (clean install) when I open the Server App I am constantly receiving the following error messages on various services inc. Wiki and the Profile Manager Service
After clicking on various other services that error message evolves into
Any help would be greatly appreciated.Nvm, I managed to resolve this issue to a degree. The errors seem to occur if I copied and installed the Server.app from a windows network location where I had it stored. However if I downloaded and installed the Server.app from the App store the errors dod not occur.

How to install Mountain Lion on my macbook pro MB990LL/A 2009?
Hi,
I have a big problem here.. I saw on internet that many people have installed on they're macbook pro MB990LL/A an OS like Snow Leopard, Lion, Mountain Lion. This weekend, I've tried to install Snow Leopard, and when I've inserted the disc in my macbook, it said that the operating system was not supported by my computer.
I don't kow how to do, but I would like to install Mountain Lion or at least Snow leopard on it and I know that it's possible so if someone can help me with this, that would be great!!
Right now, i'm on leopard 10.5.8Confirm that you booted from the Snow Leopard Install DVD and that it is the retail version that you purchased directly from Apple.
If that does not work:
Boot your MacBook Pro normally, then download and install the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Combo update. Then, shut down and attempt to install Snow Leopard again. -
After installing Mountain Lion, iMessages and Facetime does not work. When I try to sign-in I get a message that says: The server encountered an error processing registration. Please try again later. After 4 calls to apple and 8 and a half hours on the phone. The apple people does not how to solve the problem. The last thing they told me is that they will send the problem to their engineers and I will hear from them. unfortunately they have not contact me.
During the phone calls I tried putting the date and time in automatic, changing the username and password, I even tried using somebody elses username and password. Please help, facetime is my tool to telecomute, and it is hurting my job.I had the same problem and found the solution here:

I installed Mountain Lion so that I could sync my notes with my iPhone that already syncs notes with a specific email address I use for school, but during the install it automatically set up Notes to sync w the wrong email addy. It looked in Mail, which had 5 email accounts set up in it, and for some reason picked the only one that I no longer use because it is for a school that I no longer attend. How can I fix it so that it syncs with the correct email account for notes and calendar? There don't seem to be any settings available other than to check if you want to use the basic features. It also said during the set up that it was setting up 'find my mac' but if I look on the iCloud website there is nothing showing there for finding my mac.
At this point I feel like I wasted my money paying for this supposed upgrade. I got nothing for it but frustration. It even automatically set my security settings to allow only downloads from the Mac store so the first time I went to download something I had to stop what I was doing and go correct settings first. I feel like there should be a security setting to block downloads from the Mac store so I don't accidentally end up clicking the wrong thing and being charged.iCloud isn't syncing them on your phone. You simply added the email account to your phone and enabled calendar and notes syncing with the email provider, and the calendar and notes appear in the calendar and notes apps on your phone. You can do this with Gmail, Yahoo and other IMAP account. iCloud email is just another IMAP account, but syncs notes with Apple's iCloud server just as Gmail syncs notes and calendars with Google's server.
iCloud didnt' set up a non-iCloud account on your Mac. When you check Mail in System Preferences>iCloud, it only creates an iCloud email account. You can also add other email accounts to your Mac by going to System Preferences>Mail,Contacts,Calendars and clicking on the "+" sign on the bottom of the left sidebar. If you added these other email accounts to your Mac before you upgraded to Mountain Lion, these were simply maintained on your Mac after you upgraded.
