How do I disable a Mac Safari Extension?

Everytime I look at anything, including my OWN website of items for sale, I can't see the copy under the photo because the darn box of comparable items (which are NOT so comparable) hides all of my text and prices. I have tried everything and can't find a way to even find that ext. much less disable it. HELP! The extension says, "See More" in an orange box and then produces this bar of pictures and prices of items from other online shops. SO ANNOYING.     I need to remove this or at least have the X in the box work when i don't want this!!!  Thanks!

You've looked in Safari - Preferences - Extensions ?
It's also possible that you have 'downlite' (vSearch) adware installed.
The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide : DownLite
or
You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.

  • How to completely uninstall all of Safari extension's remenents

I hated how in Safari when you first zoom in it's too small to read. So I'd zoom in and notice that when all other windows open you keep having to rezoom any addition windows that open since Safari doesn't keep the zoom level for all pages except the initial one that you zoom in. This gets to be a pain and can't understand why by now Apple hasn't addressed this issue.
So what I did is go to the Safari button in the left hand top of the screen and select extensions and believe it or not they have an extension that I installed that after being install called (Zoom All Screens) truely does keep the zoom level when you first log in and also when opening up all other windows does keep the zoom level.
Problem is when I went to my e-mail the whole page wasn't coming out so it works and it doesn't.
Other than uninstalling this extension which will uninstall from pressing the (uninstall) button does Safari store remenants anywhere's else on the computer and where do I go to (COMPLETELY) remove all rememnants of this extension that I've uninstalled? Again I don't know if pressing the unintall button removes just the extensions and all other remenants of the extention or if the extension leaves remenants somewhere else on the computer or when uninstalling the extension removes the extension itself and (remenants of the extensions along with it completely or not).
Not sure whether it stores remenants of the unintalled extension anywheres else on the computer or not. Would like to have a solution on this and all replys will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Open a Finder window.
From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click Go > Go to Folder
    Type of copy paste:
    ~/Library/Safari/Extensions
    Click Go.
FYI, the uninstaller should do the trick for you.

  • How do I disable SSLv3 in Safari (OSX & iOS)

    Hi All,
So following this morning's Google announcement on the SSLv3 vulnerability, I tried disabling it on the client side on my various systems and browser. On OSX, I managed to do it for Firefox and Chrome but not for Safari. On iOS I didn't manage at all.
Any clue on how it can be done?
    FWIW:
    - Disabling SSLv3 in Firefox:
Open about:config, find security.tls.version.min and set the value to 1. Then restart your browser to drop any open SSL connections.
    - Disabling SSLv3 in Chrome:
Launch Chrome using an AppleScript that contains the following
      do shell script "open -a /Applications/Google\\ Chrome.app --args --ssl-version-min=tls1"
    - Checking client-side vulnerability:
       https://www.poodletest.com/
    - Checking server-side vulnerability:
       http://www.poodlebleed.com
    Cheers,
    Alex

Apple posted the following updates that include a fix for the SSLv3 "Poodle" issue:
    Yosemite 10.10
    Security Update 2014-005 Mavericks
    Security Update 2014-005 Mountain Lion
as well as updates for all currently supported Servers (4.0, 3.2.2, 2.2.5)
All of them contain the following:
    Secure Transport
Impact:  An attacker may be able to decrypt data protected by SSL
Description:  There are known attacks on the confidentiality of SSL
3.0 when a cipher suite uses a block cipher in CBC mode. An attacker
could force the use of SSL 3.0, even when the server would support a
better TLS version, by blocking TLS 1.0 and higher connection
attempts. This issue was addressed by disabling CBC cipher suites
    when TLS connection attempts fail.
    CVE-ID
CVE-2014-3566 : Bodo Moeller, Thai Duong, and Krzysztof Kotowicz of
    Google Security Team
It would appear that your browsers will show "maybe vulnerable" on the poodletest site, so my guess is that OS X will prevent all apps from using SSLv3 even if they would otherwise be capable of doing so.  This will protect other apps, such as e-mail clients that are also normally able to use SSLv3.

  • How do I disable the Mac App Store?

I have a special needs son and for this reason I have to limit what he has access to on his iMac.
With the Mac App Store coming I had made the choice to simply not install/download the Mac App Store. I realized that this morning that is not an option, it is installed as part of the 10.6.6 update.
I removed it from the dock but still I realize it is installed on the Mac and for example it's an option on the Apple pulldown menu and I know there is an option of when a file cannot be opened there is an option to open the app store to find an app.
I looked at Parental controls but unless I am wrong could not find an option to completely disable the app store. I don't mind enabling it when I want to install certain apps on his mac that he will need. This may be convenient but simply don't want him to be able to get into the app store to install apps.
    Thank you for your help.

I agree. Current MAC is my first and I was happy with it. But this new direction means it will be my last. I've deleted AppSotre.app (or whatever it was called). but I still be Finder offering to search App Store for me !!! It is well and truly tied into the OS.
With windows you take what Microsoft what you to have. Now with Mac you take what Apple require you to have. So looks like Linux (where you still seem to have a choice).
Seems to be a lot of bad feeling caused by the fact that it cannot be globally disabled. Fanboys love it and hate any criticism yet many others are disappointed. For me, I'll give Apple a wek for a global disable/remove, them commit to Linux. (Of course I'll keep the Mac for Photoshop but no more updates and no replacement).

  • How do I disable or change Safari's default "upload" folder?

    Here's the deal:
Whenever on my brand new iMac I go to, for example, upload a photo in Tumblr or add an attachment in gmail, the box that opens in Safari always opens in the "documents" folder. This is a change for me from the older version of Safari I have on my 3 yr old ibook.
It used to be that the box would open up onto whichever folder I had previously selected from. This new "feature" is annoying when I want to upload, e.g., multiple photos in Tumblr (this website will not allow you to select multiple photos at once, but requires you to select "upload photo" for EACH photo), since I have to click on Upload Photo, then Media>Photos>iPhoto>specific iPhoto folder, THEN select the photo I want every time, rather than just Upload Photo>photo I want.
Is this just a new "feature" of Safari, or is there a way to work around it? I've searched the web and looked through Safari preferences multiple times. I also downloaded firefox and found that the same thing happens there.
What's particularly strange is that when I go to upload additional photos, the box briefly shows the contents of the previous folder (in this case, a folder in iphoto from media>photos), but quicker than I can select anything, it reverts "back" to the documents folder.
Is the only answer to move items INTO the docs folder before uploading multiple items one at a time?

what a quick response! If I can figure it out, I'll post it here...I have stuff on etsy and have to pick one photo at a time:  www.blackburnarts.etsy.com
    good luck!

  • How do I disable airplay on an older macbook pro?

I have an older macbook pro (model is mid-2010) with Mountain Lion installed.
When my Apple TV is on, my computer keeps trying to connect to it via Airplay.  But Airplay is not supported on my macbook pro and the sound stops working.
How do I disable my Mac from connecting to Airplay?

Do this test with the Apple TV on:
If you go into System Preferences > Sound > Output, which line is selected?
If the Apple TV is selected, can you select Internal Speakers? Will it stay on?
With Internal Speakers selected, do you get any sound output?

On Safari's Preferences (command-comma) on the Privacy tab you can set 'Block cookies' to 'Always'. Doing so may affect how some sites behave e.g. you may not be able to stay logged in to websites if you set it to 'always', 'block from third parties and advertisers' may be better.

  • I'm receiving a message when I open Safari that says it is no longer supported & I need to disable some browser extension. How do I do this? I checked Safari Extensions on my Mac & found none.

I now use the TenFourFox browser on our remaining PowerPC Macs including a G4 PowerBook. Web sites see it as a newer version of FireFox tha and G4 can support and you get much better compatibility. Wikipedia info/history here:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TenFourFox
The TenFourFox official site and download is here:
    http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/
Downside: the last version of TFF that supports plug-ins was V17 so current versions won't play Flash animations. Even when TFF played Flash, the old G-series Mac processors were struggling with modern web video content, so you are not losing much.
If you must have smooth-playing web video, you'll need a new computer, as very little web video content is optimized for our PowerPC processors on old Macs.

  • How to permanently disable this message: "Press Esc to exit full screen." (by Adobe Flash Player) in Mac's Safari Browser?

    Hello everyone,
I have been searching for sometime (without any success) for a solution to permanently remove this annoying message: "Press Esc to exit full screen."
Whenever I go to full screen mode, watching any video on YouTube, BBC, CNN (or many other websites which use Adobe Flash Player for streaming video) I have to bare seeing this message for several seconds until it fades away. Seeing this message once or twice would have been okay, but as we all watch many videos on a daily basis on internet, after weeks, months and now years seeing this message over and over again many times every day, it becomes very annoying, and I find myself rewinding many videos to their beginning after this message fades away to be able to watch it from the beginning without anything obstructing it!
Does anyone know how to "permanently" disable this message from appearing?
I am using the latest version of Safari 6.0 on the latest version of OS X (Mountain Lion 10.8.1), and have the latest version of Adobe Flash Player (Plug-in version 11.4.402.265) installed on my new MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display.
    Thanks,
    Ally

    Thanks Carolyn,
I am attaching a screenshot here for you to see that this setting was already set to what you suggested. I didn't need to change it as it was like this even before I post this message.
So the problem still presists and unfortunately your suggestion is not a solution to this probelm.
Last night I did more reseach and found a discussion in Adobe website, it seems a lot of other people have the same issue, and even started a discussion in Adobe website about it. But unfortunately Adobe refuses to address it and enable the end user at least to have an option to turn this message off from displaying permanently on his/her computer.
I am writing down the url links for the two posts regarding this issue on Adobe's website:
    Link #1: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/921270
    Link #2: https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3058752
Hopefully more people will get involved and ultimately we will either get Adobe's attention, or someone will find a "hack" and post it here for all of us. I have found some suggested "hacks" for Windows environment (you can simply google it, I am sure you will find them too). But so far I haven't seen anything for Mac's Safari browser.
    Cheers,

  • Can not turn on Safari  Extensions in Preferences, switch just doesn't respond. How can I do it?

Can not turn on Safari  Extensions in Preferences, switch just doesn't respond. How can I do it?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • How can I disable Firefox from automatically opening on system startup on my Mac - unchecking the "open at login" does not work?

We have Firefox 10.o on our Macbook Pro OS X 10.5.8. I prefer using Firefox as my browser but my husband prefers Safari for now because of a long history of bookmarks and saved information he doesn't have time to re-do. He is tired of Firefox automatically opening when we start up the laptop, and even when we uncheck the "open at login" it still opens at login every time. He is about to uninstall it because of this. How can we disable? It does NOT show up in our account on the Mac OS as an application that starts at login, so we can't disable it there.

For those of you running Windows, I found this on another site. (Unfortunately, not before getting totally disgusted and switching to chrome.)
    1. click start (or the windows flag button at the bottom left) 2. in the "search programs and files" or the RUN dialog box, enter "msconfig.exe" or "msconfig". 3. That should open the system configuration program. 4. click the "Startup" tab at the top of the opened program. 5. Under the "startup item" column, look for Mozilla firefox. 6. uncheck that one. 7. Click OK or apply. 8. click "exit without restart". 9. you're good to go.
