I have an iPhone 6 plus with iOS 8.2
Does anyone know how to remove the avatars in iMessage? Whether its picture imported from google, facebook, or that shadow default, I want them all gone.
Thanks in advance!

  • How do i disable popups from iMessage?

My family uses the iPad and I'd like to find a way to prevent the iMessage notificiations from popping up.  I'd like to see them only when I select the App.  Any help for me out there?

you should be able to change your notifcation centre settings.
    Go to home
    Select the settings app
    Select Notifications
Navigate down and selelct iMessage (or messages on a iphone) from your list of apps.
From there you can change all the different notifications.
    Hope this helps

  • How to change avatar in iMessage beta?

Anyone know how to change the avatar in iMessage beta that just came out.  Not sure how I eneded up with my wife's avatar but I am now not able to change it.  I have tried both of my @me accounts and nada!  This is not on any iOS device but strictly on the new iMessage beta for the Mac.  My personal info in contacts is correct and so is my wife's.  Although we share one of the @me accounts for iCloud, it's only to sync up some stuff.  Her profile in contacts does not include this @me address.  Using iMessage on any iOS device shows the correct avatar.

    Hi,
At the top of any Buddy List (I run mine separately) you have your own Buddy Pic
If you click this you can call up old ones (max 16), the default for the type of Account (one of the 16 and normally lower right) or access the Change/Edit options.
My Address Book iCloud list shows the My Card as my details and also shows the same pic (they can be different)
Another place to look/change is System Preferences > Accounts > Your account.
iChat can uses  a different pic to the other two.
The Address Book will tend to "see" the Account (System Preferences) one when you set up the Mac and those two are likely to be the same (Although you can make them different)
These ideas may show you where the Buddy pic is coming from and where it can be changed
I will admit to having difficulty editing Address Book Entries on the Mac itself

  • How can I disable iMessages from archiving messages and attachments?

I noticed while browsing ~/Library\Messages/ that iMessages has been archiving my messages (Archive folder) and saving attachments (in a separate Attachment folder). Under the settings for iMessages on OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion, I don't see any options to disable this. The only thing close to that is already unchecked: Save history when conversations are closed.
Any ideas why iMessages is saving all this information? How do I disable it? My concern is that it's going to keep accumulating data overtime. I don't want to keep having to go back in there and delete those two folders constantly.

    Hi,
This somewhat date back to the way iChat's Saved Chats were once Stored.
At iChat 5 (in Snow Leopard) you could choose to see the last chat - (when opening an new chat with a person you had chatted with before) or parts of the Last Chat in terms of the Last so many IMs.
Example Pic of iChat 5's Prefs
Since then the management choices of the Save Chats has changed in both iChat 6 and Messages.
Messages stores Chats two ways if they are iMessages.
You can elect to Save them in Messages > Preferences > Messages.
It also store the chat.db and other databases items which includes the Attachment items
The chat.db is the bit that fill in the "history" if you iMessage the same person even if you are not saving the Chat in a formal sense in the App's Preferences.
This is irrespective if your delete the Conversation from the Messages main window.
How big these Databases get obviously depends on your iMessages usage.
Striker's link seems to be about a similar issue on an iPhone (I presume it transfers to other iOS devices) but I am not sure that it is relevant in this situation.
    Edit.
I should have been clear that you cannot change the database behaviour.

how can i disable imessage from automatically starting up when i turn on macbook air? i dont know my imessages to pop up on my laptop when it turns on. But i dont want to disable imessage totally on my macbook.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
First of all, check that Messages is closed when you turn off your MacBook. This is so important because, by default, OS X will reopen all opened apps the next time you start your Mac.
Apart from that, when you go to  > Shut Down, or  > Restart, in the window you see to restart or turn off your MacBook, unmark "Reopen windows when logging back in". This will avoid that your Mac opens all opened apps the next time you start the MacBook, so Messages won't start automatically at startup

  • How do I disable iMessage on my MacBook pro?

I have purchased a MacBook Pro for Christmas and whilst viewing different applications I couldn't close the message application unless I typed in my Apple id password. Now, I am recieving iMessages at not only my iPhone and iPod but my mac too. How can i disable this on my mac???

I just figured this out, yay! You need to be on your laptop to do this. Open the iMessage app, then look up at the top left of the screen on your laptop and it should be the apple icon, "messages", File, Edit, View, History, etc. Click on "Messages", then click on "Preferences", then click on the accounts in the box on the left - because a pop-up will open after you click on "Preferences". I was unable to remove the accounts, but I was able to uncheck all the boxes and disable the accounts. Voila! Mission accomplished.

If you do not want to receive your text messages on your Mac, open Messages, go to Messages menu (in the menu bar) > Preferences > Accounts, choose your iMessage account and untick your phone number or disable your account

    Hi,
Messages still uses the com.apple.ichat.plist (and the other ones that had iChat in them for the accounts)
The two new ones for iMessages (com.apple.imservice.imessages.plist and com.apple.imessage.bag.plist) only hold the server info on one and the Apple ID and the Aliases you use with it in the other.
I have not discovered anything in any of the .plists that deal with how the "history' is saved (other than whether Chats are Saved on Closure).
In previous versions of iChat there have been hints at MacOSXHints that do various things such as this one that changes the order of the Info when Selecting iTunes Playing as th Status Message
    http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20050610163358263
To use it in Messages you have to change the iChatAgent bits to IMAgent.
I did search their site for 10.8 and Messages but found nothing that related to doing anything with the Saving or History of chats and conversations.
    I don't work for Apple.
My "knowledge" is centered around iChat and Messages, which I have been posting about since 2004.

How do I disable 'imessage' on an i phone that was traded to Best Buy?

    Do this first
    Wipe iPhone/iPad/iPod touch clean
There are a few steps to do:
Switch off iMessage in Settings > Messages
Switch off FaceTime in Settings > FaceTime (iPod touch 4th Generation or later, iPhone 4 or later and iPad 2 or later)
Delete iCloud in Settings > iCloud > Delete Account
Finally Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content and Settings.
    Un-register your device: https://supportprofile.apple.com

  • HT3529 I am no longer using an iPhone, how do i disable iMessage?

I am no longer using an iPhone, how do i disable iMessage? I have already reset the iPhone back to factory defaults but when iPhone users text me it goes to iMessage and i do not receive the texts.

Only two ways I know of: 1. Put your sim back in the iPhone & turn iMessage off, or 2. If you registered your phone online with Apple, & setup a support profile, delete the phone from your profile.

  • How can I disable the new voice feature in iMessage?

iMessage is great and I use it a lot, but I hate the new voice feature. I don't want anyone to be able to send me a voice message. I think it's extremely pushy. If someone wants to talk to me, he should give me a call. Then I can decide whether I answer the call or not. How can I disable this without completly disabling iMessage?

I'm pretty sure there's no way to prevent this, just like there's no way to prevent a text message or picture/video message.  If you don't want to listen to it, delete it, and text them back and tell them you don't like voice messages and they need to call you and leave a voicemail.

  • How do you disable the feature to 'keep iMessage conversations running between two devices'?

I have 2 apple devices- an iPhone 4 and an iPad 2. When I set my iPad up and set iMessage up set it offered me the option to keep iMessage conversations running between the two devices, and i pressed yes. I now cannot stand this feature because every time I recieve an iMessage, I get two alerts, one on each device. How do you disable it?

    Hi DeltaNomad,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
You can disable the Substitutions feature completely, or add words you frequently use to the substitutions list.  See this information from the Pages User Guide:
Replace text automatically - Pages Help for Mac
    http://help.apple.com/pages/mac/5.1/#/tanca15d8a79
When Text Replacement is turned on for the document, a checkmark appears next to Text Replacement in the Substitutions menu. You can deselect Text Replacement to turn it off, but existing text won’t change unless you select the text, and then follow the steps above.
Choose Edit > Substitutions > Show Substitutions (from the Edit menu at the top of your computer screen).
In the Substitutions window, select the Text Replacement checkbox, then click Text Preferences.
Click Text, click the plus sign, then type the text you want to replace (such as “teh”) in the Replace column.
Type the word you want to replace it with (such as “the”) in the With column.
Close the window when you’re done editing substitutions.
Click a button to replace all occurrences of the replacement text in the document, or only in the selected text.
    Cheers,
    - Judy
