Syncing with what?  Via iTunes?  iCloud?  An Exchange server?  GMail?
The User's Guide explains how to do this, might be a good idea to read it.

    There are no settings to change. Assuming you are using Lion 10.7.2 (or 10.7.3) - which you should be - you simply sign in in System Preferences>iCloud and check 'Contacts' and any other data you want to sync.
    If you are using an earlier system you will not be able to sync your contacts, and there is no workaround. However you can sync them with Google or Yahoo contacts, though I don't know how well this works.

    I have struggled with this for a while - my wife and I want a single contacts database to keep on top of the moves, new numbers and emails of our friends, family and business contacts.  This really means we also need to keep our work contacts in the same place but we don't want to see one anothers.
    I was doing what Scott mentioned.  Essentially I would use iCloud as a backup / source of all info in the cloud (for example when I needed a contact that I had spring cleaned from my phone).  I would occasionally true up what was on my computer and what was in iCloud (essentially a 'Select All' then drag everything from the Mac to iCloud and then in reverse).  Then in iTunes I would only tick the Groups I wanted synchronised.  I can tell you it was a lot more annoying than it sounds*.
    Rander's answer was a Doh! moment for me and I think it's the best answer.  Sync everything everywhere then go into Contacts and tap Groups and deselect those you don't want to 'see'.
    *  Ignore the next bit if you're happy with Randers' answer.  I append it for other self helpers who may be able to do something with it...
    It's worth noting that at somepoint, iCloud and Mac OS seem to have started playing better.  Slowly I seem to be getting more single records of contacts that are both on my Mac and on iCloud.  I suspect they were origninally new or appeared new (I've been tinkering with VCF cards to make Contacts treat contacts differently). 
    Having experimented, where there are two cards with the same details, one on the Mac and one on iCloud, it seems to need a name tweaked in one of them (I added an 'x' to the end), delete the duplicate, drag over the card named-X, then edit it to delete the X.  If you don't change the name and simply delete a duplicate then drag again the iCloud ghosts recreate the duplicate.

    I have the Acrobat X Suite (including Adobe Presenter). I upgraded to Office 2010.
    The Adobe Presenter menu item stopped appearing when I opened Powerpoint .
    I uninstalled Presenter and downloaded Presenter 7.07 and installed it as a trial. I then used the installer for Presenter in the Acrobat X Suite to apply the license key.
    Everything worked fine for awhile and then the Presenter add-in disabled itself.
    I tried to enable it with no luck. I went through the whole process that I just described again (uninstalling, downloading, re-installing as a trial, and then running the install from Acrobat X Suite for Presenter, and I still can't enable the Presenter add-in (though it appears on the add-in list--as disabled). I'd appreciate help. I have some files I need to re-publish for a course.

    Launch PPT.
    Select the File menu
    Select PowerPoint Options
    Choose the Add-Ins section
    At the bottom you should see a Manage: option with a drop down menu
    Select the Disabled items option and click Go.
    Select Presenter and then Enable
    Close and restart PPT.
    Keep an eye on the messages that come up if PPT crashes again, and if you see the "There was a problem with the Presetner plug-in, do you want to disable it?" dialog, say no.

    When I configure iCloud to sync contacts between the iPhone and the iMac, the synchronization is one-way only.  Any contacts in my iMac show up in my iPhone.  But all my other contacts in iPhone (synched from Google Contacts) do not show up in the iMac.
    How can I synch ALL my iPhone Contacts to my iMac?  (including the ones that are in the iPhone because they were synched from Google Contacts).

    Sync the contacts on your Mac with Google Contacts as well... There is no need to involve iCloud.
    Perhaps you should take a look at Google's help pages.

    Anyway, no matter how many times I disable tap to click, before long my laptop is clicking everything against my will, again. Is there a way to permanently disable this without permanently destroying the whole of the physical machine (which is growing increasingly tempting)?
    My drivers are all up to date. So far I could only find a vague suggestion to edit the registry without details as to how and where.

  • Had Dashboard disabled in 10.4, now can't enable it in 10.5

    I didn't find Dashboard to be particularly useful in 10.4, so I disabled it using the Terminal trick:
    defaults write com.apple.dashboard mcx-disabled -boolean YES
    killall Dock
    In Tiger, I could reenable Dashboard by typing the above except changing YES to NO. Now that I've upgraded to Leopard, though, I want to try out the web clips feature from Safari, since it seems potentially handy. Dashboard was still disabled when I upgraded, but I can't reenable it using my old method. Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the reply. I trashed the plist file and found that Dashboard was in the Applications folder, so I added it to my Dock. It's weird, when I click on the icon Dashboard runs immediately, but it doesn't have the "application in use" indicator on the icon that it used to have. Seems to be working fine otherwise. Also, I can't get Dashboard to launch when I press the appropriate function key. Any ideas how to fix that?

    Entourage calendar does not sync as you are expecting, with iCal.
    Turn your Entourage sync services on (to sync your calendar) and you will notice in iCal a new calendar on the left, called Entourage. Mind has a purple color to it, for example.
    Now, in iCal, create a new appointment and assign it TO the Entourage calendar. Now sync, and hey presto it shows up in Entourage.
    This is by design, Entourage does not sync ALL of your iCal calendars, it will only sync the Entourage calendar which is created in iCal.
    For example, I have Home, Work, Personal and Entourage calendars in iCal - appointments I make with my Home, Work or Personal calendar will not appear in Entourage, period. Only appointments made in iCal using the Entourage calendar will appear in Entourage (after a sync).
    Likewise, appointments made IN Entourage Calendar, are sync'd to iCal and are only visible if you show the Entourage calendar in iCal - (it's switched ON by default, but can be switched off by un-ticking the calendar in the left pane of iCal).
    Does this make sense?

    After updating through 11.0.02 -> 11.0.03 -> 11.0.07 (Not currently on 11.0.10), and before I go any further, we also are using IE11 w/Enterprise Mode and the latest version of Chrome. Also, users have Acrobat Pro XI 11.0.09. PDF's are set to open in Adobe Reader. Well, after updating Adobe Reader with the versions mentioned above, a user will open IE or Chrome and click on a link that should open a .PDF in another window or give the option to download it. When this happens, sometimes all the content can't be interacted with or it just doesn't open. The ONLY way I know of to fix this is to go in to IE, manage add-ons or Chrome://plugins, disable the Adobe PDF Reader add-on, close the browser, open the browser and enable the Adobe PDF Reader add-on, restart the browser again. At that time, will the PDF's open properly.
    Is there something that can be done to prevent this from happening? One of the reasons I don't like to push out Adobe Reader updates in our district during the school year is because of this reason.

    Now I have upgrade OS X to 10.9 and found that OS X now supports Google Account completely with Contacts Sync also.
    So I enabled that Account, but - anyway - on th "On My Mac" Account in Contacts the used to be a check mark to enable contacts sync.
    Now this check mark is no loger there - how do i get arround to disabling google sync on the "On My Mac" account?

    I don't use Google, but my understanding is that you can sync google contacts and other services between devices. If this is the case, you would be better off using only google services of your choice and deselecting them from iCloud.

    I have some contacts in my iphone that were added to my gmail group by default, not iCloud. I was wondering how to move the contacts to the iCloud group so I would be able to see them on iCloud.com on my pc.

    iCloud only syncs contacts belonging to the iCloud account.  If you have contacts belonging to other accounts (such as Gmail, Yahoo, and exchange account, etc.), you'll have to copy these to iCloud and disable contact syncing with these other accounts.  If you want to do this, do the following:
    Go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off, choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (they will still be in iCloud).
    Download the app My Contacts Backup.  Use this to backup the remaining contacts on your phone (from the other accounts/groups) as a vCard attachment to an email that you send to yourself.  Confirm that you have received the email.
    Go to Settings>iCloud and turn Contacts back to On.
    Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Default Account (in the Contacts section), set this to iCloud.
    Go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap each of the other accounts you are syncing contacts with and turn off contacts syncing with these other accounts (otherwise you will have duplicates on your phone).
    Open the My Contacts Backup email and tap the attachment to import the contacts from the other groups back to your phone, and to iCloud and your other devices.
